Thank you, The best informative video I have watched so far, and I have watched many! I am going on my life long dream, since I was a little girl, to take a cruise to Alaska. I am going if the Good Lord lets me, in September 2022. YEAH!!!
Hi Edith, thanks so much for your kind note. Alaska is one of my favorite destinations. I cruise Alaska once or twice every year. In fact, I will be cruising this month with NCL sailing round-trip from Seattle. Can't wait! I will be praying for you that the Good Lord gets you to Alaska next year! If you haven't done so, please make sure you subscribe to my travel channel, the Getaway Guru, as I post one or two travel videos every week. Thanks!
Thank. You so much. for the wonderful Video. Great pictures of. the places my Sister and I will be visiting in July. Our once in a lifetime trip has us all the more excited because of your Video. Thank You..
Wow! What an amazing video! I've just booked my cruise for May and was wondering what excursions I should go on. As a Brazilian, who never knew much about Alaska and never even thought of going, this video was so enriching. Thank you so much! I can't wait!
Just subscribed. There are a ton of travel videos on RUclips but I found your style the most informative, entertaining, and engaging. Thank you for these awesome videos!

Hi Ronda, thanks for your note. I'm sure you will love cruising as much as I do. In fact, I'm going on an Alaska cruise later this month. Happy Sailing!
Really! You've got one on me as I have never seen that. I have to believe the water was still quite cold, after all, it's still glacier snow melt. Did you walk down to Nugget Falls? Thanks for tuning into my travel channel, the "Getaway Guru."
Hi Michael, you will enjoy your Princess Cruise to Alaska next year. Aboard the Emerald Princess you will sail round-trip from Seattle and visit Juneau, Skagway, Glacier Bay, Ketchikan, and Victoria BC. I was booked to travel this June 2021 aboard the Emerald Princess to Alaska, but.....alas, it has been cancelled by Princess. Thanks for tuning into my "Getaway Guru" travel channel.
I'm a ranger at the Mendenhall Glacier, so I'll probably see you when you come, even if neither of us realize it haha. You'll have a great time! Alaska is phenomenally beautiful.
Sorry, haven't time to read all the comments so apologies if it's repeated, but at 12.13 he mentions Skagway but shows a pic of Juneau and the good ole Red Dog Saloon which is in Juneau. Was just watching this to reminisce since crew days back in '88 doing two Alaska seasons. Loved it and all it showed me. So memorable
I’m booked on Royal Princess next month May 2022, 12-nights r/t Vancouver visiting 3 Glacier Bays and about 6 ports - first-time Alaska, so excited. I’m in the process of booking my excursions and happened upon your video. Thanks! 😊
Hi Gail, I'm so pleased you found my Alaska shore excursion video helpful. I love Alaska and look forward to going back myself. Drop a note and let me know how your cruise and tours go.
Hi Mel, thanks for your note. An Alaska cruise, which I have done more times than I can count, remains one of my favorite vacations. After your cruise next spring, let us all know what tours and excursions you enjoyed the most. Thanks for tuning into my travel channel, the "Getaway Guru." Happy traveling!
We have an Alaskan cruise plan for this coming July and I'm so happy that the one that we chose arrives in Victoria at 11 AM and stays until 10 PM. I chose that 1 specifically because I wanted to have really good time to see the gardens. I have been there before but it is a mostly even a second 3rd and 4th time.
Hi Angela, thanks for your note. I'm pleased to hear you enjoyed your first cruise. Hopefully, the first of many. My apologies for the delay in responding. My wife is dealing with cancer and my attention has been with her. But good news! After surgery, chemo, and radiation, she is making wonderful progress toward recovery. During this time I have not been adding new posts, but will start again, likely in February. Thanks!
Hi Amanda, you can find whale and marine animal watching in most Alaska cruise ports. The whales migrate from Hawaii and Mexico to Alaska arriving in the spring and return south in the fall. As you cruise the Inside Passage you will undoubtedly see whales from your cruise ship, but rarely is it up close and personal. Joining a whale watching excursion aboard a small boat is my favorite whale to enjoy these amazing creatures. Have fun!
Amanda, I have worked on whale watch excursions out of Juneau and been around icy strait many times, less boat traffic and more humpback whales by far around icy strait, plus the whale watch trip around icy strait is done from the Tlingit village of Hoonah, most of the guides are native Alaskan’s, not case out of Juneau, just saying😉By the way, been in tourism field of work here in Alaska for years.
Enjoyed your video! It's been 52 years since I was in Ketchikan. Creek St. was billed as "where both the men and salmon go upstream to spawn"! Lived there 3.5 yeas and still didn't see it all! I'm leaving 9/7/23 for a 13 day cruise with Oceania Cruises, and I will be visiting Buchart Gardens mid day. Thanks for the recommendations at the other destinations.
I made this video to share with all the tourists that are going on a trips to Alaska and stopping one day in Skagway. ruclips.net/video/MGFId71pXzM/видео.html One day is not enough to really understand Skagway’s rich history. Hi Ed, thank you for your kind note. I appreciate the time you took to write. Regent is a great cruise line. And special thanks for tuning into my RUclips travel channel, the "Getaway Guru." Please keep watching as I post one or two new videos every week. Thanks!
For us it was the Panama Canal full transit cruise that is our 1 and done. To us we found it very boring going through the locks. Like groundhog day. They are all the same and it takes all day. Only thing we found us looking forward to was seeing ships on the other side and a huge group of people to us towards the end. East to West trip. Ship HAL Zaandam was very old and not much entertainment, shops or other activities. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Naomu, thanks for your note. I'm sure you will enjoy your Alaska cruise. I cruise Alaska once or twice a year, every year, and can't wait to go back. I will be sailing Alaska with Princess in August 2023.
Great info. We have cruised Alaska many times and are returning this September with Holland America. Learned some interesting information about tours that I will definitely check out.
This is the first time my husband has sat and watched a video on Alaska because of your interesting video. You are very informative and straight to the point...."Thank you"! We are travelling to Alaska on a cruise last May and you just made it all much more exciting! We'd like to do a Mediterranean Cruise late this year or sometime next year (2024), do you have any informative videos on this please?
I just listened to your video, thank you, very informative. I am taking my grandson on a birthday trip to Alaska in Late June. Do you recommend using the excursions provided by the cruise line or do you know/have you used independent excursion companies? Thank you
Thank you for your kind and thoughtful comment. I love Alaska. I get there once or twice every year, usually on a cruise. Although I often see most of the same sites, I can't wait to get back. Thanks for tuning into my travel channel, the "Getaway Guru." If you haven't done so, please subscribe and turn on notifications.
I like your video, but as someone who has cruised to Alaska several times, I would like to make two points. 1. Often, Holland America ships leave from and arrive in Vancouver BC and don't go to Victoria. Both cities are great to see. We have traveled to Seattle and taken Amtrak to Vancouver. Two years ago, we took the ferry to Victoria, spent a few days, and then too a ferry to Vancouver, where we caught our ship. 2. In my opinion, the best way to see Alaska is to take a land-sea cruise through the Cruise ship line. The land portion includes travel, lodging, and some occasional tours. Even better, throw in a land-sea cruise that also includes the Yukon. That trip two years ago included a cruise on Holland America to Skagway, train from Skagway to White Horse and Dawson City, then to Fairbanks, Denali, and Anchorage-mostly via bus or train . My favorite trip of any that I have been on via any mode of travel.
Hi Kathy, thank you for your helpful Alaska insights. You obviously are well traveled. Holland America offers Alaska cruises departing from both Seattle and Vancouver. You are correct that the Vancouver sailings do not include Victoria, BC, as they already have their Canadian stop to meet requirements of the US Passenger Vessel Services Act (PVSA) of 1886, which does not allow non-US registered ships to sail exclusively between US ports; hence, a Canadian port somewhere in the itinerary. Holland's Seattle cruises do include a stop in Victoria, BC. Starting next month we will see Alaska cruises return. Congress has given cruise lines a waiver of the PVSA through March 2022. (I wish they would do it permanently!) So, no Canadian stop this year as Canada continues to close all their ports to cruise ships. But next year, 2022, the Eurodam and Oosterdam ships of the Holland America fleet will sail from Seattle and stop in Victoria. I agree with your sentiment that the best way to see Alaska is a combined cruise and land experience. Denali is spectacular as is Kenai. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and recommendations with our "Getaway Guru" travel family.
Thank you so much for the great excursion infos. We will be traveling at the beginning of the season. Do you suggest we get our excursion from the cruise ship?
Hi Larene, thanks for your note. I trust you enjoyed your Alaska cruise. My apologies for the delay in responding to your comment. My wife is dealing with cancer and has undergone chemo, radiation, then COVID. My attention has been taking care of her. The good news is that she is making a recovery. I will start posting new videos, probably sometime in February. Thanks!
This was a very informative video. I am going to Alaska in August for my 60th birthday with three of my friends. I will leaving out of Seattle where we're spending two days before the cruise. A lot of the excursions that you mentioned I have on my list for us to do.
Hi Tina, you are so lucky to be heading to Alaska! Enjoy your time in Seattle. And greetings from Jerusalem, where I am at the moment. Thank you for tuning into my "Getaway Guru" travel channel and taking time to drop me a note.
@@GetawayGuru I am going to Alaska out of Vancouver on July 20, 2022 and enjoyed your video. Please do a video on Morocco and in particular Marrekech, Fes, Chefchaouen, Tangier, Essaouira and Ouzarte and Ait Ben Hadou Ouarzazat. Have you done a video on Morocco already?
I have a solo Alaskan cruise planned for July....departing Seattle ..this is very helpful for choosing shore excursions...I already got a lot of freebies and will be calling later in the week to find out if there are additional price cuts or upgrades! Thanks, great video!
Best video I’ve seen so far on Alaska travel tips!! I feel the same way about Alaska! I’ve been twice and have already booked my third trip. Can’t wait to try some of these excursions you’ve recommended! Thank you again!!
Excelente narración, me transporto a Alaska , voy a visitarle saliendo de Seattle en setiembre Gracias por compartir de una manera tan clara y profesional todos sus años de experiencia. Saludos
Hola Mayela, gracias por su comentario. Donde estara visitando en Alaska. Tomara un crucero o viajando por tierra. Alaska es uno de mis destinos favoritos. Disfrute su viaje. Gracias.

I'm confident you will enjoy your Alaska cruise aboard Celebrity's Millennium ship. It was originally launched in 2000 and was furbished in 2019. The ship carries 2,218 passengers on 11 decks. She is in good ship. celebrity is an upscale cruise line, particularly noted for a great dining experience. Let us know how it goes.
Hi Brent, thanks for your note and greetings from Rudesheim, Germany along the Rhone River...where I am today. I know you will enjoy Alaska as much as I always do!
So glad I found your video Larry we’ve been watching Alaska videos quite a bit since we have scheduled a round-trip out of Seattle next June. We are very excited about it. I think I have our excursions mapped out that pretty much coincide with what you recommend however in Juno I’m a little bit torn because I want to do whale watching and Mendenhall but I wanna have enough time for us to see Nugget falls and most of the excursions that include both only give an hour at Mendenhall which is not enough time to walk to the falls and back. Also we would like to do the tramway. May just have to do 2 Alaska Cruises 😊
Hi Brant, thanks for your note. At a steady adult pace the walk from the Mendenhall Visitor's Center to Nugget Falls is about 40-minutes round-trip. You can make it in an hour, but it is a rush and gives you little time at the falls. If the one-hour is strict, opt to take a taxi or city bus back to downtown. Check the times as it makes a number of stops along the way. There is also a Mendenhall shuttle bus, not to be confused with the municipal bus. Safe travels!
@@GetawayGuru I had the same concern as Brant, really want to hike to the falls. Do you know if the Mendelhall shuttle bus free? And does it run pretty regularly?
Please address Sitka and Icy Straight stops… I hear Skagway is not happening for excursions right now because of a mudslide… I am doing the Seattle Round in Sept 2024… we stop in Juneau, Ketchikan, Icy, Strait, Sitka, and a very short stop in Victoria BC from 8 PM to 12 PM
I’m going to Alaska in April and appreciate all this information. I signed up for the White Pass train ride and Yukon expedition. Somewhere on a description of this tour I saw that a passport was necessary. Can anyone tell me if you were/weren’t required to produce a passport. I don’t remember needing one but that was a LONG time he ago. Thanks
Very informative video! We are booked with Princess for early May 2022 on the inside passage, what are our chances of seeing bear? I’m getting different opinions.
Thanks for your note. Except for the winter months you can see bears anytime. The best viewing months are mid-June to mid-August. I've seen bears on a number of times on my Alaska cruises, although where you are likely to visit is not the prime viewing areas. Whilst I don't know your itinerary, you are likely to visit Juneau. Bear sightings are common near Mendenhall Glacier. Opposite the visitors center are a series of elevated walkways. I've seen bear in that area several times. If you have included a land tour to Denali, that's one of the better places tourists can visit to see bears, as is Kodiak Island. Herring Cove outside of Ketchikan is another good area you can visit on your cruise, but May is a bit early. At Herring Cove the bears show up during the salmon run. Enjoy your cruise and please drop me a note if you see bears!
Hi Karley, thanks for your note. Enjoy your cruise, just about two weeks away. I leave for Israel that same day. Thanks for tuning into my Getaway Guru travel channel. Safe travels!
Hi Pia, the best months to see bears in Alaska are July through early September. Some of the best bear viewing areas include: - Anan Creek, Inside Passage - Black bears - Pack Creek, Inside Passage - Brown bears - Katmai National Park, Southwest - Brown bears - Lake Clark National Park, Southwest - Brown bears - Kodiak Island, Southwest - Brown bears - Denali National Park, Interior - Brown bears
The BEST cruise excursion to take in Alaska is at Ketchikan. The Deadliest Catch is a must experience! You will be entertained, educated and amazed. These guys are real, experienced fishermen that will show you how they catch all species of crabs found in Alaskan waters and you will have the opportunity to see and handle the them. Tons of Bald Eagles too. Dress warm as you will be going out with them. Well worth the money! Just did this yesterday and it was epic!
Great news that we have Alaska cruises back! I have enjoyed my visits to Icy Straits. Kind of an out of the way, back water town with friendly locals and a nice vibe. Popular tours from Icy Straits include whale watching (although I prefer Juneau for whales), bear viewing (seasonal), and native canoe tours. Nearby to where to disembark is the small town of Hoonah on the island of Chichagof. The last time I visited Icy Straits we bought a transfer ticket from the ship into town and then a local bus around town. Sometimes the locals will put on a song and dance performance at the community center. Although not large, I enjoyed their native visitors center. Have a wonderful time and please drop me a note and let me know how things went.
@@GetawayGuru I too am on an Alaskan cruise August the 28th returning September 4th round trip to Seattle on the beautiful new ship NCL Encore so this I'm excited alone about!Since you got to Alaska 1-2x a yr, I so wld appreciate ANY excursion ideas from you for the ports Encore is stopping in. And do U suggest book all excursions from NCL or go directly to the ports excursions company? Alaska has reallyyyy been hurt by the no cruising these long 15mths so I really prefer my $ be given all to the locals vs NCL excursion desks. Look fwd to your reply and advice. Hi Lady B, Sorry for a brief delay in responding as I just returned yesterday from a safari in Kenya, Africa. It was completely over the top. And thanks for tuning into my travel channel, the "Getaway Guru." I post one or two new videos every week. FYI, I will be sailing Alaska next month also with NCL.
We will be going to Sitka for the first time on our upcoming Alaska cruise on the NCL Bliss. We sailed the Bliss on it's maiden voyage to the Bahamas and loved the ship. What activities do you recommend at this stop? I have my eye on the Siginaka Island by cruise and paddle. Looks like it's a participative excursion, and I love a sea kayak. :) Thanks for your thoughts.
Hi Bill, I know you will enjoy Sitka as much as I do. (Right now, I am enjoying Iceland!) There are many fun activities in Sitka. The choice depends upon your personal preferences and level of activity. You mentioned you love seas kayaking, then don't miss it in Sitka which offers great sea kayaking. Other popular activities include whale watching; Fortress of the Bear, which is a bear rescue center; and Sitka National Park. If you visit the park, take the Totem Trail that winds along the coast past 18 Haida and Tlingit totem poles to a former Tlingit fort. Near the park, visit the Sheldon Jackson Museum for insight into culture and craftmanship. Plan to spend a few hours here. I also enjoy just watching around the downtown area and visiting the Russian Orthodox Church. Enjoy your visit!
Hi Christine, thanks for your note. As to a recommended Alaska excursion, it depends on what port you are in. In the video I give my favorites. Enjoy Alaska!
I am a photographer and I would like to see more videos on where to capture beautiful photos in the different ports of call. Also local tips and places to see.

Hi. I'm going with friends (we're all in our mid 40s), April 5 -12 2023 on HAL. None of us has been on a cruise. What weather Temps to be expected? Was Aug a bad time to go , as we thought it would be hotter in late summer? The excursions seem pricey, we were considering doing the ATV rides and kayaking. Thoughts?
Question.. We are going to Alaska on HAL's Noordam leaving May 15, 2022. I was looking at the Misty Fjiord tour by boat. It seems good but I was wondering how much wildlife and waterfalls we would see. We are going on a land tour after the cruise. Any advice for Whittier and Talkeetna? Thanks for you video!! Thanks for all the advice
Hi Kathy, thanks for your note. HAL is a very good cruise line. You will enjoy your Misty Fjord tour out of Ketchikan, which is a favorite city of mine. Land and marine wildlife sightings are unpredictable. Bear and eagles are often seen along with a variety of marine animals common to this area. being wild animals, there are no guarantees. I don't know what routing your tour boat will take, but common/sites include a Tlingit pictograph, Rudyerd Bay, and towering 3,000 vertical cliffs. Misty Fjord's is one of God's greatest creations! Highly recommended tour.
I’m going too Alaska next September 12th out of Seattle ,with my son an his wife. Were sailing on the Royal Caribbean Quantum. Ours is the Clasher cruise. I’m handicapped , can walk some not too long distance. I have Pulmonary embolism which makes me loose my breath some.. I’m getting better but not younger..will we be safe walking on the little trails too an excursion or should I pass on them? Is it posable too see the Northern lites this time of year ? Anxious too hear your response!
Hi Cathryn, thank you for your note. I have sailed aboard the Quantum of the Seas and always enjoy my experience. It is a big ship with many dining and entertainment options. Regarding shore excursions, the tour description normally advises the "degree of difficulty" or how strenuous it is. You will visit four ports-of-call, viz., Sitka, Skagway, Juneau, and Victoria BC, in addition to glacier viewing at Endicott Arm. Select the shore excursions that appeal to you and are "easy" or less strenuous than others. You may wish to consider a Sitka city tour. In Skagway, the White Pass & Yukon railroad trip (sit on the left side facing front going out of Skagway and up the mountain, or the right side returning to Skagway - chairs switch and reverse at the top of the Line). In Juneau, whale watching is lots of fun. In Victoria BC, the Buthcart Gardens are the big draw, but will require a lot of walking unless you can rent a wheelchair. Ask the ship if their tour has a wheelchair option for this and other tours. You may be able to see the Northern Lights in mid-September, but it still remains a bit "ify". Sometimes they are visible and other times not. I sailed Alaska late last month and we did not see the lights. Thanks for tuning into my travel channel, the "Getaway Guru." if you haven't done so, please subscribe and turn on notifications. Enjoy your cruise!
Heading for our third trip to Alaska in September and can't wait. Never been there in September, so hopefully the weather will be nice, but we'll be prepared for rain. :)
Hi Bill, thanks for your note. You can expect rain in most areas of Alaska, but it does vary by location. Keep in mind you are in a rain forest from Vancouver to Juneau and there is a reason it is called a RAIN Forest. Enjoy your trip.
Can you please tell me how you purchased your railway ticket in Skagway? Did you purchase it through The cruise line or through the railway ticket office in Skagway? What are the pros and cons of each? Thank you!
Thanks for your note. The walk from the cruise pier via Fisherman's to the downtown marina area is a delight. I've done it more times than I can count, but always look forward to returning, which I will in September.
Hi Jill, thanks for your note and special thanks for tuning into my travel channel, the "Getaway Guru." Check with your travel advisor re: a June Alaska cruise with Princess as it is my understanding they have been cancelled...including a June 20 sailing I was booked on. Thanks!
Loved your Alaska cruise video, we went in Sept. and are going back. Have you done the cruise from Quebec Canada to Maine USA. We would like to do that cruise.
Hi Kerry, thanks for your note. I'm pleased to hear you enjoyed your cruise. Most Quebec to USA cruises will start or end in Boston or NYC with stops in Maine. Sounds like you found one that ends in Maine. Fall foliage is the perfect time to go! Safe travels.
Question for anyone. We will be on the celebrity millennium in June. Which of these ports can you just get off the boat and walk around and enjoy the downtown's and people, Juneau, icy straits, Ketchikan, skyway. Thanks
We are booked on NCL( Jewel) 11 day Denali express northbound cruisetour September 2022. Has anyone been on this type? We have done an Alaskan Inside passage years ago. We love leaving from Vancouver & staying at the Pan Pacific hotel ( right next to cruise port)
Hi Darlene, thanks for your note. I have sailed aboard the NCL Jewel several times and always enjoyed my experience. Designed to be in the category of Freestyle Cruising, Norwegian Jewel easily transports 2,400 guests and over 1,000 crew members. What's special about this vessel is her speed, restaurant options, and family comfortable accommodations. You will love Denali. Animal viewing tours typically leave early in the morning and late afternoon when the animals are most active. I agree with your assessment of the Pan Pacific Hotel. It's a beautful property within very easy walking distance (like a block or so) of the Vancouver Cruise Terminal. Have you considered arriving in Vancouver BC a day or two early to enjoy the city, Stanley Park, and maybe a drive up to Whistler where the Winter Olympics were held? Safe travels!
Most excursions are extremely overpriced. Don't be compelled to do excursions in every dock. Explore the town, parks, restaurants, and your day would be well spent without too much spending on $$. Just enjoy the cruise.
Hi Laurie, and greetings from Cairo, Egypt. In the coming weeks watch for some Egypt videos. Good question, but I can't answer without knowing your itinerary, are you on a cruise or land visit, length of stay, etc. Send me a note with your trip details and I will be pleased to respond. Thanks!
Inasmuch as you watch the Alaska cruise tour video, I am assuming you are enjoying an Alaska cruise, but just wanted to be sure. I look forward to hearing from you.
Hi Sharon, and greetings from Cairo, Egypt. In the coming weeks watch for some Egypt videos. I love the flight seeing tours in Alaska (and anywhere else too!) aka sea plane, float planes, land based airplanes, and helicopters. You can enjoy a sightseeing tour from the air almost anywhere in Alaska. Some of the most popular include Misty Fjord from Ketchikan, Wrangell mountains and the 13 Glacier Tour from McCarthy, and from Anchorage you can see Denali, from McCarthy I like the Wrangell Mountains and the "13 Glacier Tour," and from Anchorage you can see Denali, the Chugach Mountain Range, and the glaciers of Prince William Sound. Thanks for tuning into my travel channel, the "Getaway Guru."
Yes, there are. We also see a few Alaska cruise itineraries sailing round-trip from San Francisco. The vast majority of Alaska cruise, however, sail round-trip from Seattle or north/south Vancouver to Anchorage or vv. Thanks for your note.
Hello, just starting to look at Alaska for 2024, Is that Whitepass railroad an excusion from the ship ? How long does that take? It does look awesome. Do they ever stay in port more than one day?
Hi Cathy, the "White Horse & Yukon Railway" round-trip from Skagway is one of my favorite excursions off an Alaska cruise. The Skagway White Pass Railroad Summit Excursion is the most popular Skagway excursion! Begin your excursion as you board the train in Skagway and travel 20 miles from tidewater, to the Summit of the White Pass - a 2,865-foot elevation! Every passenger enjoys vast canyon views and complimentary bottled water throughout the fully narrated tour. On this Skagway train tour, you travel in a vintage passenger coach and retrace the original route to the White Pass summit, passing Bridal Veil Falls, Inspiration Point, and Dead Horse Gulch. There are scenic vistas and a panorama of mountains, glaciers, gorges, waterfalls, tunnels, trestles, and historic sites along the White Pass Railroad. And you'll see the original Klondike Trail of 1898. It is best to purchase your ticket onboard your cruise ship to guarantee availability as the train usually sells out every day. The round-trip ride takes about 2 hours 45 minutes. For more details, see www.wpyr.com. Thanks!
This summer is my 3rd Alaskan cruise in 3 years! I agree with you 100%. Alaska gets under your skin and in your soul like no other place ❤

Great video. Thanks. We are booked for HAL Noordam land/cruise starting May 19, 2022 from Anchorage.
Are you on the Norwegian cruise July 10? And are you related to the Wimberley Bonds? We know them
I had repeatedly watched this video three times. Lots of value information. Thank you very much. 🙂🚢✌
Hi Wen, thank you so much for your kind note. If you're planning a trip to Alaska, please drop me a note and let me know how it went.
Our first cruise in may and boy did we love it . Amazing. Going back in 2024. Thanks
Thanks!
Lots of great information. Would like to see the totem parks when we go to Alaska this summer.
Thanks for this! Sailing June 2022. I was thinking about icy strait whale watching but I think I will now look at juneae instead!
@@troyottosen8722 Totally agree. Icy Strait is best for whales and bears. I visited may times also.
Loved it. So comprehensive and informative.
You will better appreciate what they are about to see and get more in-depth things to do with your 1 day visit.

Love your suggestions. We have done many on our last Regent Seven Seas cruise and will do most of them again on our May 2022 trip. Great job.
Hi Ed,
thank you for your kind note. I appreciate the time you took to write. Regent is a great cruise line. And special thanks for tuning into my RUclips travel channel, the "Getaway Guru." Please keep watching as I post one or two new videos every week. Thanks!
Im planning a trip in may 2023 just wondering how was the trip over .were the seas rough?
A great video. One of the best.
Most informative video I have watched excellent job!
Lots of great information for someone planning their first cruise to Alaska!
Glad it was helpful! Enjoy your Alaska cruise!
Tks for the Video! Will be my 1st Cruise ;and will be going to Alaska in May2023..very excited
Glad it was helpful! Thank you for tuning into my travel channel, the "Getaway Guru." Stay tuned as I post one or two videos every week.
please have more about wheelchair accessibility excursions in Alaska
I'm going at the end of August for the first time. I'm a nervous wreck planning.
Thx for the info. What is a "Must bring" on a Norwegian cruise to Alaska in August.
Very helpful about visiting Alaska
This is the first time my husband has sat and watched a video on Alaska because of your interesting video. You are very informative and straight to the point...."Thank you"! We are travelling to Alaska on a cruise last May and you just made it all much more exciting!
We'd like to do a Mediterranean Cruise late this year or sometime next year (2024), do you have any informative videos on this please?
Great video! So helpful to watch in advance of my Alaska Cruise in July
What a great video. Thank you, Guru!
I just listened to your video, thank you, very informative. I am taking my grandson on a birthday trip to Alaska in Late June. Do you recommend using the excursions provided by the cruise line or do you know/have you used independent excursion companies? Thank you
The Skagway White Pass train ride has a loop turn around now the seats no longer flip so you can sir on either side now.
Hi Douglas, thank you for the update. I appreciate the time you took to submit your comment. Happy traveling!
Thank you for this amazing video. It is extremely helpful!
Awesome tips! We were overwhelmed with choices until this video. Thank you!!
Glad it was helpful!
That trip two years ago included a cruise on Holland America to Skagway, train from Skagway to White Horse and Dawson City, then to Fairbanks, Denali, and Anchorage-mostly via bus or train
How many days does the land -sea take?
@@valegol13 I believe they last as little as nine days and as many as 18 or 19.
Thank you so much for the great excursion infos.
We will be traveling at the beginning of the season.
Do you suggest we get our excursion from the cruise ship?
so exciting we are going for our anniversary sept. 1 thanks for the tips

Best video I've watched yet
Hi Aaron, thanks for your kind note. I love Alaska and look forward to returning every year. Enjoy your cruise!
Thank you so much! Your passion shines through. I appreciate you helping me plan my family vacation!!!!

There is a bear sanctuary in Ketchikan, book the tour before you leave.
Going on a cruise April 27th booked last minute! Thank you for the video!
Hi Karley, thanks for your note. Enjoy your cruise, just about two weeks away. I leave for Israel that same day. Thanks for tuning into my Getaway Guru travel channel. Safe travels!
Best Alaskan video I’ve watched yet!
Which month is the best to see bears when hiking?
Hi Pia, the best months to see bears in Alaska are July through early September.
Some of the best bear viewing areas include:
- Anan Creek, Inside Passage - Black bears
- Pack Creek, Inside Passage - Brown bears
- Katmai National Park, Southwest - Brown bears
- Lake Clark National Park, Southwest - Brown bears
- Kodiak Island, Southwest - Brown bears
- Denali National Park, Interior - Brown bears
@@GetawayGuru thank you so much 😊
The BEST cruise excursion to take in Alaska is at Ketchikan.
Hi Drue, thanks for your note. Glad to enjoyed your time in Alaska.
We are going this August and this was very helpful! Instead of a Canadian stop, it is stopping in Icy Straits. Any must do excursions there?
Hi which cruise are u sailing on ? I am also planning for August this year…
@@GetawayGuru I too am on an Alaskan cruise August the 28th returning September 4th round trip to Seattle on the beautiful new ship NCL Encore so this I'm excited alone about!Since you got to Alaska 1-2x a yr, I so wld appreciate ANY excursion ideas from you for the ports Encore is stopping in. And do U suggest book all excursions from NCL or go directly to the ports excursions company? Hi Lady B, Sorry for a brief delay in responding as I just returned yesterday from a safari in Kenya, Africa. It was completely over the top. And thanks for tuning into my travel channel, the "Getaway Guru." I post one or two new videos every week. FYI, I will be sailing Alaska next month also with NCL.
You can get to Juno by birth canal also.
Great informative video. Is there an excursion company you recommend?
Hi Christine, thanks for your note. As to a recommended Alaska excursion, it depends on what port you are in. In the video I give my favorites. Enjoy Alaska!
I am a photographer and I would like to see more videos on where to capture beautiful photos in the different ports of call. Also local tips and places to see.
Thanks. Great suggestion!
Where to capture beautiful photos In Alaska??? Howabout everywhere you look! You obviously have never been here to Alaska!😳🤣

Thoughts?
We are going in October any suggestions
@@GetawayGuru Thank you very much, the pictograph and Rudyard Bay are listed on the tour. I appreciate the info!!
Thank you!
Tysm I’m going in may
Thank you good inf do you think we need a tour to mendenhall glacier and the falls or we can do there by our self?
There are buses available that can take you there and you have more than an hour as they run often. Maybe $45? Blue Bus Glacier Express
Victoria Fishermans Wharf is a 15 min. walk, then you can take a water taxi to inner harbour downtown.
Thanks for your note. The walk from the cruise pier via Fisherman's to the downtown marina area is a delight. I've done it more times than I can count, but always look forward to returning, which I will in September.
Just found you! I did all 3! Great info. We are booked for mid June Princess Sapphire! 3rd time trying since 2019. 🤞🤞🤞
Thanks
Have you ever done a cruise from San Francisco to Hawaii? I am scared the ocean will be kind of rough and the ship will sway back and forth?
How is April? Looking at Norwegian Bliss mid April?
What's the best way to see the Scandinavian countries...especially Norway and Sweden?
We are sailing on Celebrity Eclipse in May. Any thoughts on taking a float plane vs ferry to Victoria? 5 people in our group.
Are we ok going mid October?
On ship, is it cold on deck. I imagine the ship moving through water makes it really windy and cold. I’m traveling in early June.
Like to hear about flight seeing if the National Parks in Alaska please
Thanks for ideas
There are roundtrip Vancouver too.
Thanks!
Which cruise line would you recommend for couples that are foodies that want to see the most wildlife and nature?
