YBD Red Velvet Cake (vegan)
Note: this can be a vegan cake if you use Certified Vegan sugar!
This recipe makes four 8 inch cakes.
Pan spray
4 cups (792 g) granulated sugar
6 cups (720 g) all-purpose flour
1⁄2 cup (42 g) unsweetened cocoa
1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons salt
3 tablespoons red food coloring
2 cups (480 ml) water
2 tablespoons white vinegar
2 cups (480 ml) almond milk (or any milk alternative, cow's milk will work as well)
1 tablespoon Madagascar bourbon vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups (320 ml) vegetable oil
Preheat the oven to 350 F (175 C). Grease cake pans and set aside.
In a stand mixer fitted with the whip attachment, combine the sugar, flour, cocoa, baking soda, and salt on low speed to sift the ingredients.
Add the red food coloring to the water and set aside.
Add the vinegar to the soy milk and set aside.
Add the vanilla to the oil.
With the mixer running on low, add the oil mixture, soy milk mixture, and half of the water mixture. Mix until batter is smooth and lump free. You will need to scrape the bowl here.
Add remaining water and mix until smooth.
fill the pans and bake for 30 to 45 minutes, checking the cakes at 30 minutes for doneness. When the cakes are done, they should be set to the touch.

For something more obscure the pans could be used to make a Jack and Jill cake. The cake is the hill and the hole at the top is the well. You could place a Jill figure at the top looking down at Jack having obtained a head injury. And you wouldn't have to use the bottom layer if you didn't want to as it's a fairly tall cake. -- I think there are even more options when you think of it in three separate sections and the option to invert the whole thing. The pan could easily be used to make a cake that looks like a cup. I could also see it as a basket perhaps just using the two layers without the dome part. For an Easter cake it could be topped with different Easter candies and maybe even those hollow eggs with surprises inside. -- Just a few of my thoughts.
JJR what about an episode where you give challenge to your crews..let them show their creativity and see what they have learned from you.😀😀

Yes please do a princess doll pan challenge. It would be great! Also, Joshua, as an SFX makeup artist, you did great for your zombie makeup. I also have the same problem where the blood won’t stick and I just wipe away the paint in a small section and then apply the blood. Hope this helped. Also, glaze as blood is awesome.

I've been playing too much Sims and it shows, but I think this mold could make a very cool house. Not necessarily a traditional house, although that could work as well, but something more interesting with like lots of "glass" and stuff. But also A FACE CAKE!

I’m so relieved you didn’t cut Nutmeg in half. ;-) I grew up choosing my birthday cakes from an Australian Women’s Weekly book, in which they used a Dolly Varden cake pan and stuck half a doll on top. I used to wish I could have a doll cake but I could never get past those instructions and ask for one. 😳
