- On January 24th a host of star drummers descended on the Observatory in California for the Bonza Bash NAMM Jamm, spearheaded by Brian Tichy. Each drummer picked one Led Zep song and performed with a killer house band.
In this video Toto's Simon Phillips performs 'Trampled Under Foot'.
We interviewed all the drummers involved with Bonzo Bash about their love for John Bonham and you can read all about it in the April edition of Rhythm Magazine.

Finally a drummer at these Bonzo tribute drum shows that 'grooves' instead of just bashing the living daylights out of the drums!! Thank you Mr. Simon Phillips!!!!
When the drummer is the only one on time.
world class drummer with a weekend band
Nice to see Simon playing on an other kit!
Simon Phillips and Billy Sheehan make for a solid rhythm section!

It's cool watching Nikko off to the side. Sure this may not have been Simon's best, but he is still one of my favorite drummers and idol. No Zeppelin song is easy!
Gotta love Nicko XD
Bonzo had a talent with a set of Drums no one can come close to..i give credit to some, and respect his son Jason who pretty much mastered his dad
s DNA with the Drums.
Nobody can do Led Zep but Led Zep!
I love the way Niko McBrain checks Simon Phillips out!!! :-D
Awesome thnx for posting. Mike D.
Simon playing Paiste's!!! Yeeesss!
What most people don't know unless it's pointed out is that Bonham used to accent the off beats of the 8th notes on the high hat. Not the down beat like most of us do. That's what gave his playing that swing!!
This is very surprising. Simon is clearly fighting the band here. He is sat right back on it. The band are pushy. This is where a teamwork ethic comes in to play. They can play there own way all day long, but it's not going to gel. I've seen Simon play a few times now and as great a player as he is, he has a tendency to sit back a little on the tempo more often than not. I think this time he could have pushed a little bit more. Bonzo had an amazing way to play behind the beat slightly, but still push the song along with energy. Very hard to do. Sounds like this is dragging because the band are fighting two different feels of the same song. It's useful to hear.
It's weird to see Simon playing the ride with his right hand
He 's not Simon Philips. It's his identical brother....Simpson Philips....
Bonham always gave the illusion of being laid back in the pocket but in reality, he really pushed and swung his grooves even on slower and mid tempo songs. Simon is trying to lay it back a little too much. Still a beast though.
Nicko off to the side--Hey don't complain, only Zep can sound like Zep. Simon is one of the most amazing drummers of the past 30 years, but a completely different kind of drummer than JHB
Would be cool to actually hear the cymbals
