For number four, I want to share my shortcut. I saw that the Dx was for cancer (malignant neoplasm), so I was able to knock b and d off right away since the ICD-10-CM code of D49.0 is for a neoplasm of unspecified behavior (not Dx'd as cancerous). When I see the terms "cancer" or "malignant/malignancy" etc. and there are some answers without C codes, I eliminate them right away. So, then all I had to do was look up the cancer Dx's. I didn't even have to crack the CPT book.
Thanks a lot for making this video. Would really like to see more of these practice videos.... Very helpful. Can you also include some examples with more codes in the answer options? That's what I find difficult in the elimination process.m
@@ContempoCoding besides watching your videos, I bought the CPC practice tests from AAPC. I also watched Hoang Nguyen's videos which helped used to process of elimination so I wasn't spending so much time looking up codes. Now to find a job. :)

Thanks, Victoria! This was very helpful! I signed up with AAPC and ordered practice exam A and its cases are seriously more lengthy than what you just showed us. Someone mentioned you have a downloadable exam prep that I'll be searching out! Thanks for the videos!
Some of them can be pretty lengthy! They usually throw a dozen or so long cases in the exam. The key with the exam is to start looking at the answer first so you know how to narrow down what you're looking for in the note.
@@ContempoCoding That's great advice. I was so overwhelmed looking at them that I took way too much time just reading them over and over again. I stopped the timer and walked away. Haven't been back. 🤣 Tomorrow I'll try again. 🙄

@@ContempoCoding Thank you for the link. I'll try that. Have my first medical coding interview next Thursday! It's for outpatient. I'm praying I can get that and then spend all of my free time on case studies to build up my speed on the cases. Any other suggestions?
I purchased the practice exams on aapcs website and some of the questions I don't know where to begin looking them up. So I'm looking for videos that'll show me more how to look up some of these questions. I went to school online with no instructor and I've been teaching myself how to code and I just wish I could talk to people about it.
I see 3 different giant books that you said you used for coding but which one do you actually used for everyday coding? Do I actually have to have all 3 of those books?
Question 5 prompted me to ask this: When you see a Q diagnosis code, if a patient has a congenital condition, should you lean towards the Q code? I know that that isn't always the case, but for the most part?
Which book are you using for this? Can the same book be used for the CPC certification exam? Also, can you make a video on steps to picking out diagnosis codes from reports?
Victoria, I love your videos! I will be taking my test in PGH, PA will it be on paper or computer? I really like to circle and cross things out. Also, does the test tell you when you need to use a Guideline, I am really stumbling on them? Thanks, Amy
Hi Amy! It will be on paper. You'll have a test booklet and a bubble grid (it looks like the last page on this link: static.aapc.com/ppdf/Exm-ProctorInstructions-WPE9.pdf) to fill in your answers. You can write whatever you want in the test booklet -- I think they just recycle them when they get back to the AAPC. They won't tell you in the exam when to look for a guideline, but often will give you answer options based on the guidelines. For example, option B and C may be the same except for in a different order, and you need to know what the sequencing guidelines are to get the right answer.
I love your videos!!!! I'm currently getting ready for my Physician coding exam review prep question which is 5 1/2 hours long and I'm wondering if you can help or if I missed a video on it?
