FIRST TIME WATCHING Ready Player One and I had an absolute blast. I loved all the references to pop culture like BACK TO THE FUTURE, THE SHINING, KING KONG and more. Steven Spielberg was definitely the right person to make this movie. I would love a sequel!

Another movie that feels similar to me, although not a nostolgia movie (unless you are a fan of the anime or manga that it is taken from, as I am), is Alita Battle Angel. A very underrated movie that due to the Disney purchase of Fox they now own, there is an ongoing fan campaign for sequels to be made. I may feel that way be because of the CGI nature and oversized eyes of Alita.

Alita was a movie made by somebody who gave a fuck. No heavy story alterations, character designs, or political quotas. The only other, though controversial, anime-based movie I think almost did it, but tried to mix the original movie with the tv show, was Ghost in the Shell. And yes, I stand by Scarlet Johansson playing a cyborg body _of_ a Japanese girl.

This movie, the effects, and the Nostalgia factor made it a grand slam for me. I was born in 1973 and got pretty much every reference. THIS is how a movie that is supposed to be portrayed in this way is done correctly. Just needed to see a few glimpses of people playing Bouncer, Salem's Lot, Tempest from 1980, BurgerTime, Dragon's Lair and Excitebike and MegaMan and the entire nostalgia trip would have been complete. Add in a couple of shots of people drinking NeHi soft drinks thing to get the free-bee sodas under the bottle cap and this is a perfect movie. Loved to have seen that old BMX movie Rad playing in the background on some random screen. Fantastic movie and vision, imo.

Fun fact: The Colorado Room the group enters into happens to be the same set where Steven Spielberg first met Stanley Kubrick. Spielberg was touring the sound stages because he was going to start filming Raiders of the Lost Ark at the facility. When Spielberg heard Kubrick was there, he wanted to meet him. So, when Ernest Cline recommended several films to replace the Second Gate challenge and threw The Shining out there, Spielberg decided to go for with it as a tribute to his late friend. And having the group enter into The Colorado Room was Spielberg throwing in a personal Easter Egg.

This is one of my favorite movies of the 21st century. In fact, I'm on your channel for the first time because I was looking for reactions to it. It makes me happy to know other people enjoy it, especially since it wasn't the biggest hit in the U.S. (24th place in box office for 2018). I always hope more people discover it. So thanks to the person who recommended that you watch it and to you for following through and watching! I was wondering why you skipped that 3 minutes with the Godzilla fight, LOL, glad you explained why in the comments. It's hilarious that you mentioned The Goonies because at the beginning of the video, I thought that you reminded me of Kerri Green from The Goonies. You're both pretty in a similar way. I really enjoyed the way you inserted the clips from other movies as "reactions" to what you were saying. That's a very amusing touch I don't recall seeing in other reaction videos. I, too, thought this movie felt very much like a 1980s Spielberg adventure film, like Goonies or Indiana Jones. It balances humor with heart, and deals with some serious issues, but never makes things overly dark or dreary. The first time I watched it, I also remember LOVING the song choices. I've started to see this movie influence other Hollywood productions, with other movies re-using the same songs, or copying things straight out of the action scenes. It's a very special movie to me, that I'm going to keep studying for a long time, like I grew up doing with some of my favorites from the 1980s. Thanks, Kazzy. Thanks for watching the movie.

Kickass movie. But lol I so would have found that firstly totally by accident. Simply due to off for racing games so if I'm in one I just drive around freely especially backwards. As for the ending with shutting the game down 2 days a week is mean considering that could mess with some peoples lives especially those that have those days off work. So they can never play on a nice day
Or worse is the fact that many people use weekends as social time and such it limits that game time to pretty much Monday and Wednesday nights justas the games about to shut down lol. But oh well haha

You got 2 of the characters a little mixed up at 28:30, the one in the Red Samurai Armour 'Daito', is the older guy with the baseball bat. The 'one left', 11 year old 'Sho' is the small Ninja with the twin swords, in yellow.

This movie surprised me how much I enjoyed it I’ve learned not to listen to online critics so many movies I watched poor reviews on RUclips only to watch later and me and my wife really enjoyed, thanks Kazzy for your always thoughtful positive reactions!

The original novel for this film was by Ernest Cline, who wrote another fun film that has lots of 'Star Wars' references called 'Fanboys' with Kristen Bell, which is also worth a watch. There is a sequel novel that is being developed for the big screen, 'Ready Player Two' which picks up the High Five's story after winning. And Cline also wrote another novel called 'Armada' that deals with an alien invasion and everyone who plays a certain video game has basically already been trained to fight the aliens off. Like 'Ready Player One' it has lots of pop references. As many pop references as there are in the movie, the novel has almost three times more! Not just 80s stuff either, general geek culture stuff, too! This is a movie that is like a good friend...as many times as I have watched it, I just don't get tired of it and I am always finding more in it!!! I am so glad you enjoyed it!

The book of ready player one is really good, and captures more than the film. Although unlike say Eragon is actually pretty good, also if you have a VR headset. You can go to a place called Sansar, and walk round AECH's garage as well as his hangout the basement. It's very very cool, and this movie and the book is what got me into VR. As well as Sword art online, another movie you may enjoy. And that world you can also visit in VR I believe in VR chat or Sansar I forget, there is so much to explore.

I love your reactions but I hate the sound difference. if it's a youtube thing, pls let us know. For this video, your voice was 50% louder than the movie sound. I constantly had to up the volume and then down the volume. Pretty annoying. You're amazing but the sound difference makes me want to leave. ps, no headphones. Just speakers. If that helps.

Seems a fun movie, I don't know if it will age well, though. Its charm relies almost exclusively on pop culture references. So much of what makes it appealing will be lost on audiences in 20 years.

the book this is based off of is much darker. more pessimism. saw this was on tv and decided to give it a chance. in the the last 6-8 months i've probably watched it upwards of 50 times (potentially more. kind of like comfort food in video form to me). born in '70, to me, this was more like an 80's movie with modern technology (i recommend going back and looking for all the references you can find while enjoying it again. there are so many. i've counted 69 to this point....and you mentioned a couple i missed. including the objects in Haliday's bedroom and the room where they're kissing at the end. but i'm sure there are many i've missed.)
one of my favorite parts of this is Halliday's monolog at the end where he says he was afraid for all his life cause he couldn't relate to people. but you have to live in the real world. so make the best of it. "Cause reality.....is real". i could relate to that.
(found you because i love this movie. you're the only one i've seen reacting to it. loved it. going to subscribe here)

Thank you for showing the whole scene were Art3mis meets Kira; that is my favorite scene in this movie. And that scene where Artie offers Xo a hug and he declines? Just wait another year, boy, and you will never again turn down an offer of a hug from a beautiful woman.

My only complaint about this movie is that Wade gets too long a warning about the explosion it’s no wonder he survives. Even if he was still in there, he would’ve had plenty of time to evacuate himself and plenty of others along the way considering how early he got the warning…

Directed by Steven Spielberg based Wade Watts in a futuristic world where people live their lives in a video game experience when it's creator Halliday dies and leaves his entire fortune to the one who can locate and retrieve the elusive Golden Egg. However, the evil IOI corrupts is trying to talk control of the Oasis so it's a race against time to get there first

It is a great movie, but computer nerds seem to hate it. I agree with you. the end with the van was echoing ET. The egg echoed Indiana Jones.

  • @goofamatic

It's not really covered in the movie, but the employees of IOI are mostly people who have been imprisoned and are working off a debt by working for IOI, so they have no choice but to do what they do. IOI in the book is waaay more evil than they make them out to be in the movie.

I know its hard to believe since the movie was so awesome but the book is still better. I listened to the 'enhanced' audiobook which again...believe it or not has an even better soundtrack. Will Wheaten is a _surprisingly_ good narrator too.
