  • Today marks the 57th anniversary since the end of steam on BR's southern region, when, on the 9th of July 1967, all of the remaining steam locomotives in service on the southern region were withdrawn.
    Thankfully many locomotives have since been preserved and can be found working heritage lines around the country and some locomotives have even returned to the mainline. To mark the anniversary, the Railway Touring Company ran the special 1Z94 railtour from London - Weymouth via Yeovil Junction, with Rebuilt Merchant Navy Bulleid Pacific 35028 'Clan Line' on the ‘End of Southern Steam Railtour’ which is seen arriving in less than favourable conditions at Yeovil Railway Centre for turning and servicing. West Coast Railway Company 47812 took the tour onto Weymouth, and Clan Line followed in hot pursuit with its support coach once servicing was completed, ready to haul the return 1Z96 back to London. Resident Ruston Shunter DS1174 'River Yeo' is also seen supporting in some of the shunt moves during the pacifics servicing. | 09.07.2024

    A smart looking locomotive. A good job so many ended their days at Woodhams to be rescued and restored!

    Nice to see Clan Line back working and in immaculate condition. I remember putting £5 towards it's original purchase which was a lot for an apprentice in those days

    You cover these events exceptionally well. Seeing all the shunting and what goes on is always more interesting than just seeing the train arrive and depart. Excellent.

    Back in the 80's my wife Marrianne and I saw Clan Line at Salisbury along with Flying Scotsman. The Clan Line crew invited Marrianne onto the footplate, and gave her the VIP tour.
    When I tried to get on the footplate they weren't so keen!
    Very nice video, Ta.

    Interesting to see how Yeovil Junction looks nowadays, as it was one of my loco-spotting haunts in the late'50s and '60s. I did visit Yeovil Railway Centre a couple of times in the '80s and early '90s when we still lived in Yeovil. I think it was for the visits A4 "Sir Nigel Gresley" and a Stanier 8F loco.

      Ahhh the exhaust from the steam powered air pump as opposed to the Westinghouse air pump fitted to the front of Tangmere.

    Did Clan Line travel in reverse along the Heart of Wessex line from Yeovil Pen Mill to Weymouth?

    • @geoffreyford7288
      @geoffreyford7288 2 месяца назад +1

      Probably yes it went chimney first to Pen Mill and would have run round it's coach to go tender first to Weymouth.
