I bought exactly the same kit online, tonight tried to open the box for the first time and they all came tumbling out into a huge pile and I felt like a complete idiot. Then I also couldn't work out how they were measured, so thank you for your clear explanation, now I have hours of measuring fun ahead of me and I don't feel uniquely stupid!
Thank you! I was wondering about this since I had a similar issue recently with my spring bars and having multiple sizes lying around aimlessly on my desk.
@@mangarik6795 i see what youre saying. If the lug width is 18mm, then youll want to order an 18mm spring bar. HOWEVER, if you actually measure the full-length of an 18mm spring bar, youll notice it's a little longer than 18mm. Just IGNORE that actual length. An 18mm spring bar fits an 18mm lug width.
I already know about this observation. What would have been more useful (and what I'd like to find out), is the length of the spring bar I need to get for my watch. Let's say the inside measurement from lug to lug is 20mm, what length of spring should I get? 22mm?
If you watched the video, then youll know youll want a 20mm spring bar as measured in the video. That means you dont measure from one end to the other, but from one end to the end of the barrel on the other side (excluding the spring)...again, as mentioned in the video.
Delete, edit, delete, edit your previous comments...... i do have a short answer. Ask politely and say please. Yeah, it's cheesy. But I was raised on Mr. Rogers, Sesame Street and all that shit lol, so magic word, and Id be happy to explain. Otherwise, google it. Im sure youll find a better answer there.
I appreciate the effort, but since I don't have any of the spring bars for this watch, I can't measure them. All I have is the width of the lug gap, which is 20 mm. Do I order 20 mm ones?
That's EXACTLY the question I have in mind, and this vid is not clear to me at all. Of course everyone with commonsense should know that the spring bars will need to compress, then spring to fit into the shaft and we don't need a vid to tell us that.
As I like to say, the devil is in the details! In other words, the measurements printed on the box label indicate the lug width of the watch. Not the width of the spring bars, end to end, as one might think. Another way to think about it is, the length of the spring bar equals the length of the shaft, plus half the length of either one of the two moving ends. It sounds more complicated when you put it this way, but it's only logical when you think about it. The moving ends are pushed in by equal amount (preferably), so they can't both go in all the way into the shaft. You know, in a broader context of measurement science (metrology), I find this to be a fascinating problem! How do you measure a moving target, or an object of non-finite (changing) length? There is definitely more to this than meets the eyes (and ears). I don't know about others, but I know I found this topic very exciting! I do like anecdotes. Thanks for sharing! Now I know how to order the correct size for my Casio restoration project. I'm not into watches myself, I'm just doing this one-off project. But thankfully there are people like you that share their knowledge and expertise with the rest of the world. So thank you for that! Now watch it so you don't drop that box again! 😊 Well... at least now you know how to measure them correctly and put them back in place. Greetings from Sweden!
I don't necessarily find it "fascinating," I'm just a practical guy. I just need to order the right size spring bars, if that's not too much to ask for.
Really helpful, thanks for sharing.
Thanks. Found this video after spilling my first large assortment of pins and laughed at your reason for making this. Greatly appreciated.

Truly valuable, but relatively unknown info.
Thank you for taking out the frustration from hours of guess work. 😉💙
Exactly same problem which i was trying to find solution thanks a lot

Hi mr , bit confused about this pin bar . I've watch g shock it says 18mm lug width and what size for pin bar should i take 19mm or 20mm ?? Thank you

So a 14mm straps pin will be 17mm?

I'm still confused
Just buy 3mm longer pin than the strap width
Me too.
@@Asad-2166 Are you sure that's the standard? So, you're saying if I have a 22mm lug, I need to order a 25mm spring bar? That doesn't sound right.
I really dislike videos in portrait.
I really dislike mint chip ice cream.
