Japan is starting to produce a lot of elite athletes. Japan has been showing recently they are the best at baseball and I know the Japanese soccer team is also very good right now.
Endorsements don't mean you are ten times better than other players. Shohei Ohtani is perfect role model and perfect for brands. He is very respectful and innocent looking.
Shohei deserves every dollar!!! He receives ~10x more than average player… and that was with the ANGELS. Now that he’s with the Dodgers, 2nd largest market in America.
I think it’s good for baseball to get so much attention from non baseball geography as Europe. Especially when MLB is trying to promote the game globally, even Europeans find him facinating as he broke into a notoriously ‘provincial’ sport as baseball that had difficult to appeal to international viewers with its heavily specialized positions and all it seemed was try try to hit a ball over the fence.. Through Ohtani, they could see the multiple facets of the game and the how hitting and pitching requires many techniques and skills to affect the outcome of a game. How the batting order of different character players are strategically put together to advance on the bases…etc. People could see on paper the rules but see ONE MAN DEMONSTRATES THE GAME is always a different level. Even Europeans have been paying attention to this guy, a Japanese(exotic) who marvel in all American sport, physical athletic specimen, humble (despite all the hoopla and money) .. the fame hasn’t change his simple lifestyle..these are the things that makes him so special.
Other than his 2-way/3-way once more than 100 years super baseball talents and world's best athletic physical abilities, Shohei Ohtani looks young, super handsome, amazingly cute, and owns a perfect super model body and height along with the most likeable personality while often showing various funny facial and body expressions at the drugout! Ohtani would definitely be a super super star in acting, modeling, or performing arts, even if he is not a two-way baseball super hero!
He got injured this year because up until he did get injured he played 122 games out of 124 games Think about that when most pitchers will tell you they need 3 days of rest after a start The weekend he got injured He played in 3 games over 2 days A double header the 1st day Where in the first game he pitched a complete game Then came into the second game where he hit 2 home runs in his first 2 at bats seized up 3rd at bat pulled out in the 7th Came back in the next morning to play the 3rd game where he hit another home run but was pulled out That was a steep departure from his injury free last 2 years But then we are learning that Shohei out of loyalty went back to the Angels to give them a last chance to match the other offers Which they didn’t even entertain his overtures
I'm Japanese in Japan. What it explains about Japan is mostly right except the fact that Japanese don't have that much purchasing power now... but yes Ohtani is so special for us. It is not just because of his ability of baseball, but also because of his personality.
Understanding National Pride. I felt that way about Texan Lance Armstrong. So much excellence, but turned out to be such a lie. Broke my heart. I get the Ohtani thing , a Japanese Boxer is fighting on December 26th for the Undisputed title at 122 Super Bantamweight. If he wins, it would possibly place him as the highest ranked fighter in the World .
No mention about his looks? He's at least 6'4", broad shouldered, and looks like a model. That definitely draws people to him. He's not getting Boss, Porsche and Kose sponsorships and having featured articles in GQ if he looks like Alex Verdugo.
Ayyyy wassup with the low blow jab on Verdugo ? I had to google him up and he doesn’t look like Shrek.. Verdugo is catching strays here for no reason Dang
pretty sure this is meant to be facetious. The fact is that soccer has a bigger audience in the World compared to baseball and that's why Messi makes as much as he does in endorsements. If you were to take the amount of money he earns in marketing from within Argentina alone then yes I would believe he would earn less what Ohtani earns from his endorsement deals based in Japan as Japan's GDP is 3rd in the world at $4.2T compared to Argentina at $633B. That's a soccer v baseball thing, not Japan v Argentina
I don't quite understand why he has a huge endorsement deal with New Balance which isn't a Japanese company and doesn't have such deals with the famous Japanese athletic companies like Asics and Mizuno. Especially Mizuno since baseball is a huge part of the company. I laugh every time I see Ohtani with a New Balance baseball glove.
New Balance is very big in Asia. My guess is that they figured that they can't compete against Nike in North America so they're allocating marketing money to Asia and other places instead. I know what you mean, but from the companies standpoint to find a niche it makes sense as Asia is a money spending economy
He’s not even the treasure of Japan. In Taiwan my country, every one knows this guy. He owns the Asian market
only/ everyone

He is the treasure of Japan 🇯🇵

Psssh. Soccer. ⚽
he's getting people around the world to follow MLB! He's a big talking point in Australia !
Same here. Keep checking angels score daily .. before not even care a bit about MLB.
Shohei is handsome, talented and have good character. 🩷
Ikr. Handsome man. 😍
Definitely. Good looking ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Endorsements don't mean you are ten times better than other players.
Shohei Ohtani is perfect role model and perfect for brands.
He is very respectful and innocent looking.
And he is international. Other players just have less marketable value
Exactly
Shohei is by far the most purest athlete on the planet for sure, right?
Great player but Humble and never proclaimed he’s the best. That’s the reason
He looks good and so humble..thats why his earning a lot off the field at the same time talented too.. he labored so hard and now is paying off
Be extremely talented, Be good looking, be humble, and have a clean image. You will make a killing.
Shohei deserves every dollar!!! He receives ~10x more than average player… and that was with the ANGELS. Now that he’s with the Dodgers, 2nd largest market in America.
As he becomes more popular and influential, there are more haters too. Let's enjoy haters' ridiculous criticisms.
Yea. How can anyone hate Ohtani? He's a treasure
Def great character is what sponsors dream of
Yep. He deserves all the success that comes his way. He’s something like a phenomenon.
Shohei Ohtani is a win-win player...Uhm❤❤😊

Great video! People who think other should get close or near ohtani's deal because of their on field prowess need to watch this
International appeal!

2 way player he deserves it
The Asian market is bigger than Japan... Ohtani is in Korean, Chinese, and Taiwan commercials.
You're welcome! Ohtani is the treasure of Japan🇯🇵
@@koningklootzak7788, I am Chinese and love Ohtani. He is handsome, humble and talented. He represents Japan very well. ❤
@@cindymmm11 you're welcome! Let's enjoy him!
Everyone expected him to get injured or be average at best. Playing at the elite level both ways is the shocker
He did get injured.
Still does. Still is.
He got injured this year because up until he did get injured he played 122 games out of 124 games
Think about that when most pitchers will tell you they need 3 days of rest after a start
The weekend he got injured
He played in 3 games over 2 days
A double header the 1st day
Where in the first game he pitched a complete game
Then came into the second game where he hit 2 home runs in his first 2 at bats seized up 3rd at bat pulled out in the 7th
Came back in the next morning to play the 3rd game where he hit another home run but was pulled out
That was a steep departure from his injury free last 2 years
But then we are learning that Shohei out of loyalty went back to the Angels to give them a last chance to match the other offers
Which they didn’t even entertain his overtures
Ohtani is the Taylor swift of baseball
Who ?
Suzuki Swift? No, Ohtani is like Nissan GT-R of baseball.
I'm Japanese in Japan. What it explains about Japan is mostly right except the fact that Japanese don't have that much purchasing power now... but yes Ohtani is so special for us.

thank you!
Truly unbelievable what a system acuna is just as good because he not from rich country he want get endorsement like that wow
Who cares if “he deserves to be paid more than other players” - he negotiated those deals with the sponsor … not them.
New Balance must be mad he will have a Nike logo on his jersey.
He is non-standrd for everything!
Well in Argentina everyone is poor asf so they can't afford anything messi promotes
😮😮😮. I thought Argentina was thriving?

lol, I mean the good thing they won the world cup! People celebrated and forgot their hardships for like ...umm a day?!
Argentina is a nest of escaped Nazis. Japan isn't like that.
Stop this, almost 60% of the Americans can’t pull out $30k in their saving accounts
most MLB players get zero endorsements cuz they don't sell
