These lights are unbelievable. I have to thank DAP not only for the fantastic lights, but also for developing the harness, putting together these amazing videos, and for the OBD Eleven app. And most most importantly, for their unbelievable customer service.
I am no car guru. This mod scared the crap out of me. It took me about 4 hours to do it all and once done, nothing was working. I started freaking out. I called DAP and spoke to Paul. When he answered, I said “wait, you are Paul, like RUclips Paul?!” I told him what was going on and he asked me to take pics of everything and email it to him. He called back after a couple of hours and could tell immediately what was wrong, which thankfully was easy to fix.
And boom, gorgeous lights, everything back in place like it was meant to be this way. Thank you so so much.
EDIT - a few tips
1. I used the longest cable ties I could find instead of the snake tool and for me I think it was safer as nothing ripped
2. I heated up some of the panels with a blow dryer when putting them back on
3. I watched this video a ridiculous number of times, sometimes seeing the same 10 seconds over and over again
Neehar Gupta how did you get the rear fog to work? I’ve been trying to get help and have had no luck. Also my turn signals don’t follow through to the outer tailights. I’m completely at a lost.
In cases where you're running the fish tape through areas such as trim or boots where you know you're pulling cables in both directions, you can easily run some sort of pull string through at the same time, which would then allow you to pull the inner-light cable back through for the outer harness, so that you don't have to run the fish tape through twice.
Thank you for these lights, I just bought them and installed them into my 2019 Golf R and I love them. Thanks for this video to help the install and doing the hard work of getting the harness developed. The people behind me thank you as well, as every time I turn or brake, these put on a show.

The connector for the driver side inner doesn't connect unless using dremel to rid of ridge that is blocking the connector provided from inserting into oem plug. Again this for inner tail. This is DAP harness. Second one I've had due to first car being totaled.

Here’s the thing don’t get. If US regulations don’t allow dynamic amber turn signals, why doesn’t VW just modify these taillights, so that the turn signal bulb is red instead of amber, and so that the turn signal only flashes, instead of sweeps across? That could definitely be done. Or, they could make it so that the outer brake lights flash in addition to the sweeping turn signal (like is done on some Audi models in the US)???
The reason being, is because the real reason that they took these taillights out, is because they’re cost cutting, and they try to use our regulations as an excuse for the cost cutting. They could put a slightly modified version of these taillights on our cars from the factory if they really wanted to. But nope, instead they decided to put the taillights from the basic Golf on our cars, and this continues with the MK8.
That’s probably the most annoying part about buying any VW model, is that you always have to take apart the car and start retrofitting things that the car should’ve came with from the factory.
On a 2018 mk7.5 VW-R (US spec) Would you need the new harness or just the new tail light set? OR both....?
Will this Harness work with other Facelift Dynamic LED Tail Light? or only the ones that came with? i bought some VLAND for my 2015 and have the halogen Taillight. The Tail Light i have came with mk7 plug but also with 7.5 plug. do i swap it to a Mk7.5 to fit with this harness?

Paul I have installed the lights and used the harness. I have put the blue wire in pin 6 and green in pin 7 and used your app on the obdeleven. I'm not getting the fog lights on. Yes I have the euro switch as well. What should I do???

I'm a nerd for this kinda stuff... but what's the function of the rear fog light? Seems rather insignificant since the tail lights are on already, unless it has some type of "throw" with its' light. Great vid, would like to do this mod!

I installed them back in October 2018. Great little mod on my gti. I have noticed that people use their turn signals more often now. I wonder if it had something to do with my sequentials
Hello I know I’m kinda late but I got the same product and was wondering will they work without the hardness like say I don’t wanna install the hardness yet but just plug them in to use factory style without the turn single etc
@@charlep3962 I don’t think it will work you have to install the harness for it to light up. It’s got pin connections for the unit to light up and stock lights have bulbs.

@@charlep3962 🤔 you got me there. This was done before the 7.5 came out. Probably... if yours has the pin connectors already then I think you can plug it and work without the sequential though

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE.... have a SPORTWAGEN version of LED tail lights for pre facelift in your store with all the hardware needed!!!! We are one that left behind and no one sells them... I know there is no dynamic turn signals but at least its a more modern look of LEDs...

Just to clarify, to get the sequential turn signals on North American tail lights, all you need is the harness and the coding? No purchase of European tails necessary?
Would like to know this too. I'm assuming with the 2018 led refresh we don't need to replace the taillight. Although I think I read somewhere that when you just change the harness some of the lights don't work.

Yes you need a new harness. These are EU spec so a harness is required to complete the install.

You have to have the European switch up front in order to make the rear fogs work. Correct?

How would I explain what the purpose of a rear fog light is to a non-car guy? I usually can't find the right answer other than "It's a european thing".
It makes the rear end more visible in fog or snow to the drivers behind you.

The mk7 golf starts in 2015, so 2015 and up will work, this would not work for mk6. Head and tail lights are different

No but we are considering offering the ones installed on our Alltrack which are wagon specific.
Luv the lights but damn, that's alot of routing, pinning, etc...I'll have to think about this one mod..🤔
P8ntballa, this mod is bout one of the easiest and most satisfying mods you can do yourself. The only thing that you can eff up is that wire boot thing, so be gentle with that... and it could also destroy your wallet, since this kit cost $1000 for the lights and harness... then another $80 for the OBDEleven for the coding... but also the OBDEleven is soooo worth it for all the other shit it does.

The harness should be redesigned to be more durable and less prone to damage from the average DIYer before being sold.

I use a long zip tie when running through rubber boots. I just cut the end off so it's nice and thin.
