Never forget that Madao was introduced as a high ranking official at immigration, he legit had a whole division at his command. And he threw that all away because he wanted to do the right thing. He probably couldn't get a job anymore because the alien higher ups blacklisted him from every job. Madao is a legend and a damn fine hero.
Right now I’m unemployed and I’ve been looking for a job these past 5 months... it’s hard for me but this morning I remembered Gintama. I remembered Hasegawa-san and his braveness. I finally felt pride of becoming a Madao. I feel joy now. Let’s start the road !
+Bajernus Out of all the characters, he's probably the most "real." Just a guy trying to get his life back together after making a few mistakes. (This based on what I've seen so far, so the opinion may change at some point.)
TheDeathRises Of course he doesn't, but that doesn't mean they aren't mistakes. I think we can all agree that punching your employer isn't a very smart thing to do.
Despite being in the worst situation, Hasegawa is easily the most selfless of all the Gintama characters. He's had so many chances to improve his life but always gives them up for the sake of someone else in need.
He only did that a couple of times. What happend when he finally started his sushi shop and then how the yorozuya fuck it up for him? Think about it, we all hope to this day that the author will give him his perfect chance.
Well he kinda is a samurai just not a strong one, both in heart and actuality since he came from a low class samurai fami and in his backstory scenes he carrys a katana
For me he is the most genuine and inspiring character in the anime. Even though he is in pathetic condition he still cares about others. No superpower, no sadist feeling. I was looking forward for him to be with his wife again. He deserves it.
Okay but Hasegawa is actually such a strong character. Despite his many suicide attempts, he’s still alive and he has the best theme song. Sometimes I am quite sorry for him and I think we all agree that we want him to finally lead a happy life
I never actually called Hasegawa Madao. Not even once.I deeply respect him,he's guy who live in constant suffering but when chance to turn his life around appears,he always turn it down for the sake of someone. He should be respected.
Some of the characters can cut through buildings (dont tell me its because its a katana ) and people like ginsan actually have enough money to feed themselfs is a miracle
i think we all know how much ginsan actually earns lol plus in some storylines he seems to be volunteering. anyway we can say for sure hasegawasan's character is how a irl person would of survived in this anime.
What you said is actually pretty wrong in the sense that almost everyone in Gintama faces the worst problems. Sougo has no special power yet he suffered through his sister's death. But you are also right. Hasegawa does face a lot of problems in the series
Xing sougo cuts through buildings like they were butter, he has family called the shinzengumi. it may be true that everyone faces problems but the only thing hasegawa'san can fight with is his sunglasses, plus the fact that gintoki always fucks up and ruins his chances of getting back on his feet lol.
Hasegawa really is my hero. Sorta like me in this very moment, he lost the love of his life, he gave up his stable job to not abandon his ideals. And he still puts others in first place. In order to bring happiness to others, he just keeps rotting. But he survives day by day and is loyal to himself. Life is just that painful but he shows the middle finger to it. All he's got are a bunch of unusual precious friends. I feel so much like him and I made this music my theme for when i'm depressed and would like to give up, but just can't
His character is literally the definition of tenacity in the face of adversity. No surprise then that Hatsu won't leave him. Sorachi's character game really is on point.

Hasegawa as a character is one of the most relatable in Gintama. Anybody who has had really hard times can relate to his struggles. He's just trying to get by in a world that looks down on him. But he really is a great person.
I've just watched episode 16 again and I remembered just how amazing Hasegawa really is. Hasegawa's glasses symbolize his beautiful character. Everyone tries to take away his "glasses" from him, they try to make him look more like everyone else but he keeps them on even though it makes him lonely. Such an inspiring character doesn't deserve a nickname like that.

@@scarlet_phonavis6734 Well it's really good to see someone is so passionate about my favourite anime and who has actually understood the true Gintama and yeah Saiki is an amazing anime. I recently watched GTO, even though I haven't read the manga(Not really a manga person), I found it really funny because I feel voice actors play a huge part in the success or failure of an anime. Gintama is packed with the best seiyus(don't know if it has a plural) which makes it even more amazing. Gintama is a really well planned story, because in their opening sequence they would always show glimpses of Gintoki's backstory even though we got to know about his past way later in the series. The characters that we see initially and the type of characters they become eventually is hell and heaven difference, who would have thought Katsura would become so epic as the seasons progressed. You are spot on about Sadaharu, he lived up to his name of being a Dog God. People don't talk much about Kondo, initially he is just shown to be Otae's stalker who doesn't mind taking of his clothes and going bare but and just be a called a gorilla even though he's the Chief of the Shinsengumi. But whenever he got into trouble, they would forget everything and would team up to rescue him and that's what gave us one of the best arcs the Farewell Shinsengumi arc. I love Matsudaira, he is introduced as a cop who just likes to party and drink Don Perigon but the way they show his caring father side is just hilarious, no other show can do that. Gintama was not scared of anything, it just didn't care about anything and that is what made the show so amazing. People say they have to wait till 50 episodes to actually start liking Gintama but that wasn't the case with me by the time I finished Gintama, I could realise why the first 50 or so episodes were so goofy. Gintama is not an action anime and it doesn't need to be because the goofiness of Gintama is what makes it so magical. Towards the ending when things got really serious, I missed the goofiness so much but they made sure that kept the comedy even if it was for a few scenes. I just love Gintama and I don't feel any show can come close to it and for the people who drop it after just a couple of episodes saying that it's boring Gintama is not for them. Gintama can't be forced on anyone, well this turned out to be a huge ass comment but it was worth it. I don't often find someone writing something so passionate about Gintama so for a change it felt really good.
Started the arc picking up change from under vending machines even if they were covered in spit. Now he’s commanding armies of the universe to save the world and the former enemy. All in 60 chapters
***** Actually, he said himself that working for that idiot prince was his misfortune. Gin didnt force him to get fired, he just made it easier for Hasegawa to release all his pent up frustration on the idiot prince via a punch, that PUNCH, was why he was fired from his job :P It was Hasegawas fault, not Gintokis fault :P
This is one of the songs that always plays when Hasegawa is fighting through suicidal urges when dealing with the chronic depression that comes from being a MADAO. If anyone doubts the relevance of Gintama then they need look no further. This is a theme for all the people struggling in 2014 with whatever it is that makes them wish they were dead. And it came out in 2006. Still relevant 8 years later.
It has been more than 10 years and Gintama still nailed it deep down everyone heart with the best impression for being the Best Anime with Great music, Story, Comedy and Rverything.
@@Jygflow cuz one piece is about one boy searching the dream of being a the pirate king And gintama is about a man who wants protect a burden (Oh man both series are perfect)
While Gintama sports so so many great characters, Hasegawa is probably my favorite. He's real. Encountering Gintoki and the gang brought him face to face with what a shitheel he'd become and he didn't like it. He tried to change it and paid dearly for it. Becoming a decent person cost him basically everything. He's pretty much an iconic representation of Gintama's underlying theme of the dregs of society being some of the best people.
It is a philosophy. Madao: "old man who lives as he wants but accomplishes nothing" Being a Madao is just living life on your own terms... It's beautiful.
He accomplished to win 3 dimensional people's hearts. Isn't that great ? He doesn't know about it though... Maybe he does since we are talking about gintama :D
MADAO = Man Who Stands on his Conviction but accomplishes nothing. Few people are like him, the quality of being unyielding, grasping to what he believe despite being choked with the consequences and uncertainties. He's the fish who goes against the flow or even against waves.
“I realized that Madao has bloomed long ago.” He was already my second favorite character throughout the whole series, and I just finished that episode and now I love him even more. Practically homeless, bad luck, lost his wife, but perseveres and never gives up. Hits hard when you know this is reality. If Gintoki wasn’t so good as well, Madao is my number one. Funny, but too relatable it’s sad.
The hidden protagonist, the one who fights against life itself the ultimate villain. People can't see him fight but he doesn't care, for he is the madao. We all are madao, that other madao is fighting against life too you don't see it. And that madao doesn't see you fighting against life. It's okay we might not win but we must never give up for we are madao

@@aori583 Ahh, that is a good question, to ask fellow traveller. I may not know the full answer myself to that. but I'll will say this. It was the first Anime I ever watched, It took me a while to understand and connect with the story, that was surrounding all the character's in the Village. Each Character's personal thoughts and believes about their own lives are questioned in the world in which they are part of at that present moment and the actions in which they take. But that is not all, because other nations have their own believe in what they think is right, and how to fix it. It is not just the one conflict your dealing with, and not one side you drawn to. but from all side and places.
I always listen to this song when i'm troubled or depressed. It sparks this little flame of hope in my chest that makes me get up and walk toward it like a rising sun. The wreckage of life cannot stop me from stepping into a new day.
Im turning 21 on july i feel hopeless no job no money no real lifestyle haunted by own thoughts depressed. I am evil i hope i can be good....when will i bloom?
Trust in God's timing, and mainly focus on the things you can control, things you can do and prepare for in a day. With God all things are possible, but we have to be humble at the same time knowing that God has a plan for us, we just have to continuously seek. You can do it.
This theme has the ability to make any scene a badass scene no matter who is there. This is probably the magic of Gintama which people don't understand, Gintama never needed anything extraordinary to make something special, Gintama spoke facts and that's why Gintama is the greatest anime ever.
+sjoker27 Then a student walks into the freeze frame and looks up from his phone squinting he's eyes at you then proceeds to walk off the frame looking down on his phone again
the MADAO observation journal episode is still one of my all time favorite episodes of any anime/series, never fails to make me cry and makes me love hasegawa even more, the side characters in gintama have more depth than many other main protagonists of shonen animes, I recently watched jujutsu kaisen and i think it has nice story and visuals but I never felt any connection to any character, its like they're just characters that Im watching and thats it, meanwhile when i watch gintama, I feel like Im watching real people that i know in real life and everything they do or go through makes it more impactful and emotional
He never get a job,but he always help his friend,no matter who he is,madao is such a great person who u never find in other anime, and he never run from his problem anyway
There's nothing wrong with being a madao. Madao: "old man who lives as he wants but accomplishes nothing" In other words, being a Madao is just living life.
The one with Daigoro, no idea if it was real or not cause her mama wrote it xD But who wants to be madaonaire? where he helps that little girl to pay her dad's debt I think, that's sad too!
I have many reasons why I think gintama is peak fiction but the most important one is gintama gives you hope. Like even a madao can have amazing life and can be a cool guy. Hasegawa san is one of the best characters in the show.
Every now and then, when I feel down, when I see no way ahead, I come here to listen to this. To me, the into represents the bs going on in life, all the hassles and pain. Then comes the drop. It elevates me, it motivates me to the highest. It reminds me that life consists of high and lows, and also reminds me of the highs ahead. It keeps me going, pushing forward. I might sound dramatic, but that's the way it works for me.
We need more people like Hasegawa. I don't mean more unemployed people, I mean people that don't give up whenever life throws shit at them and stand for what they believe. For me at least, Hasegawa is what willpower is supposed to look like
When i was teenager,, i laughed at MADAO When i was 23, i had promosing career and sure, i will not become MADAO Now, I'm 27 Now, i know many things can twist any adult into MADAO economic turmoil, a bad luck, some mistakes, scapegoat, toxic relationship, toxic workplace, etc Any adult can be MADAO
Let's keep blooming through the winter, brothers and sisters. Remember that fame and fortune will come and go, but a good heart - like a nice pair of shades - is something they can never take away.
We can’t give up. Even if we find ourselves in the depths of despair or within the darkest abyss, as long as we keep our eyes open, we can still find a ray of hope. -Taizo Hasegawa
For me, this whole series is a beautiful ride into the ups and downs of human world, the splendor and dirt, the magnificent and dull everything. Call me a lunatic, but this anime has a very precious philosophical facet that only some people and can discover, and only half of them can cherish. I'll be out now.
When you've already lost it all, it's easier to put your life on the line. That's the meaning behind this theme. The last resolve for somebody who has nothing left.
Madao represents for me an unbreakable integrity. He will always choose to do the right thing, he will always choose his soul, over any kind of money and reward. It doesn't matter what it costs, he will do the right thing.
This song reminds me that even in our darkest days that has lasted since forever, there is still a small glimpse of hope somewhere. We just have to keep trying.

JUST WHAT SORT OF ENORMOUS POWER DO YOU WIELD!?!?!
I'm unemployed....
Invincible Under The Sun It's almost as though this theme was composed for that moment.
Started the arc picking up change from under vending machines even if they were covered in spit. Now he’s commanding armies of the universe to save the world and the former enemy. All in 60 chapters
4865alex Madao has finally bloomed.
This man is immune to Karens, he has no manager
If he's so useless, then why is his theme so glorious?
because it's madao xD
Hes not useless bro. If you watch the episodes that focus on him you will see how wonderful a person he is
yes, i'm joking ^^
in fact, he is a respectable man and he is the best of gintama spirit, he teach us a great lesson of life. I love this character !!
Madao: "old man who lives as he wants, but accomplishes nothing."
Madao is freedom, madao is life... that is why the theme is Glorious.
***** Actually, he said himself that working for that idiot prince was his misfortune.
Gin didnt force him to get fired, he just made it easier for Hasegawa to release all his pent up frustration on the idiot prince via a punch, that PUNCH, was why he was fired from his job :P
It was Hasegawas fault, not Gintokis fault :P
This is one of the songs that always plays when Hasegawa is fighting through suicidal urges when dealing with the chronic depression that comes from being a MADAO. If anyone doubts the relevance of Gintama then they need look no further.
This is a theme for all the people struggling in 2014 with whatever it is that makes them wish they were dead. And it came out in 2006. Still relevant 8 years later.
The Magician 2018 still listening
Ganesh Surendra haa bhai. I was about to comment the same

*YOU ARE FAN OF GINTAMA AND GINGA EIYUU DENSETSU!?*
Man of culture I see
I don't believe in suicide anymore it will just invite more suffering than ending it.
It has been more than 10 years and Gintama still nailed it deep down everyone heart with the best impression for being the Best Anime with Great music, Story, Comedy and Rverything.
why cant gintama be like one piece and never end lol id much rather have them switch roles
@@Jygflow cuz one piece is about one boy searching the dream of being a the pirate king
And gintama is about a man who wants protect a burden
(Oh man both series are perfect)
Hasegawa is truly a legend
Bad things always happen to him and his life is in shambles, yet he pushes on and still helps others
Well said
Exactly
Am I the only one here who thinks that Madao's character and role has a deeper meaning? Call me crazy but for me MADAO is a Philosophy.
Hell yes I agree completely a 110% all the way hands fu*king down no mother f%cking doubt
+Lysergic Acid That is the "Madao Way"
It is a philosophy.
Madao: "old man who lives as he wants but accomplishes nothing"
Being a Madao is just living life on your own terms... It's beautiful.
He accomplished to win 3 dimensional people's hearts. Isn't that great ? He doesn't know about it though... Maybe he does since we are talking about gintama :D
mert kaan and thay my friend, was what the mangaka wanted to convey all along with his character.
MADAO = Man Who Stands on his Conviction but accomplishes nothing.
Few people are like him, the quality of being unyielding, grasping to what he believe despite being choked with the consequences and uncertainties. He's the fish who goes against the flow or even against waves.
“I realized that Madao has bloomed long ago.”
He was already my second favorite character throughout the whole series, and I just finished that episode and now I love him even more.

Madao is the "realest" character out there.
Unironically one of the best ost in the history of Gintama. Also, one of my all time favorite character in the anime.
Came here in 2020 quarantine, as I watch Gintama for the first time. Glorious
yup, enjoyed every bit. Now it my favorite anime

@@brynjapanese4192 not hating on Naruto, just curious, how come you like Naruto more? Was it your childhood anime or something?
@@aori583 Ahh, that is a good question, to ask fellow traveller. I may not know the full answer myself to that. but I'll will say this. It was the first Anime I ever watched, It took me a while to understand and connect with the story, that was surrounding all the character's in the Village. Each Character's personal thoughts and believes about their own lives are questioned in the world in which they are part of at that present moment and the actions in which they take.
But that is not all, because other nations have their own believe in what they think is right, and how to fix it. It is not just the one conflict your dealing with, and not one side you drawn to. but from all side and places.
La mejor decisión, vas a amar Gintama o vas a amarla fuerte, pero no te va a ser indiferente.
When will Madao bloom?

+R001 One of the most amazing Gintama episodes. This was a 20 minutes episode, but it felt like a whole shonen arc
I always listen to this song when i'm troubled or depressed. It sparks this little flame of hope in my chest that makes me get up and walk toward it like a rising sun. The wreckage of life cannot stop me from stepping into a new day.

This is the song that plays whenever I leave a Chem exam.

the MADAO observation journal episode is still one of my all time favorite episodes of any anime/series, never fails to make me cry and makes me love hasegawa even more, the side characters in gintama have more depth than many other main protagonists of shonen animes, I recently watched jujutsu kaisen and i think it has nice story and visuals but I never felt any connection to any character, its like they're just characters that Im watching and thats it, meanwhile when i watch gintama, I feel like Im watching real people that i know in real life and everything they do or go through makes it more impactful and emotional
What's episode no of that observation journal episode??

WHAT'S WRONG WITH BEING A MADAO?
Yup you can do anything u want, in anime, but I don't think a real madao in real life would make it through 256 episodes of Gintama
Sam Khisa ni
There's nothing wrong with being a madao.
Madao: "old man who lives as he wants but accomplishes nothing" In other words, being a Madao is just living life.
madao = way of life, real man. > ALL
Even though madao is often played for laughs, can't be denied there's always a point when you feel at least a little sorry for him :) !
Well there are sad episodes about him. :/
I know I think he deserves to be back with his wife and get a steady job..maybe when gintama ends
Yupp that episodes was sad as.. damn!
The one with Daigoro, no idea if it was real or not cause her mama wrote it xD But who wants to be madaonaire? where he helps that little girl to pay her dad's debt I think, that's sad too!
Madao, the one who lost everything. still he is good for laughs
I have many reasons why I think gintama is peak fiction but the most important one is gintama gives you hope. Like even a madao can have amazing life and can be a cool guy. Hasegawa san is one of the best characters in the show.
Its exactly because Madao doesn't fit anywere in this corrupt society, that the Madao Is perfectly right 😢❤
Hasegawa Prosecution was on of the most memorable arcs in Gintama for me.
Adam Yukiho lets take a look at this evidence from a few episodes ago.
I can't trust gintama when they say 'final'

Every now and then, when I feel down, when I see no way ahead, I come here to listen to this. To me, the into represents the bs going on in life, all the hassles and pain. Then comes the drop. It elevates me, it motivates me to the highest. It reminds me that life consists of high and lows, and also reminds me of the highs ahead. It keeps me going, pushing forward. I might sound dramatic, but that's the way it works for me.
I'm here again after 10 months.
We need more people like Hasegawa. I don't mean more unemployed people, I mean people that don't give up whenever life throws shit at them and stand for what they believe. For me at least, Hasegawa is what willpower is supposed to look like
I hoped Madao is one of the strongest characters, but now I realize he is the strongest character.
Ahaha what a good sentance ngl :D
Madao bloomed when he did the right thing instead of choosing his job.
hasegawa is such an amazing character
When i was a kid i thought i will become successful when i grow up , i became a madao instead

Any adult can be MADAO

As a 27 yr old madao i agree 😌

Let's keep blooming through the winter, brothers and sisters. Remember that fame and fortune will come and go, but a good heart - like a nice pair of shades - is something they can never take away.
We can’t give up. Even if we find ourselves in the depths of despair or within the darkest abyss, as long as we keep our eyes open, we can still find a ray of hope.

Gintama connects us with each of its characters. I don't hate any of its characters because they are all relatable.
Most fan base representative character of the series
Madao represents for me an unbreakable integrity. He will always choose to do the right thing, he will always choose his soul, over any kind of money and reward. It doesn't matter what it costs, he will do the right thing.
the way this gives me motivation now feels like this is my theme music
