A few things, an original Neve 1073 module these days (from the early 70s) is over $10kUSD if you can find it. Then you have to rack it etc .. a vintage Sony c800g is $15-20KUSD ... they started making them in 1991 ...

Thanks for this vid Archie! My peasant-@$$ will be using the plugin versions of this stuff haha, but i definitely respect and appreciate the quality of high end analogue outboard gear and mics. I was already intrigued by Travis's sound, but even more so since hearing the latest release from a rock band called Bad Omens that crosses into R&B and Trap influence. Just saw Darci here in Toronto last night, and that was the final straw, I want to create and write with this vibe! So THANK YOU!!

Just curious, why would anyone purchase the $3k+ BAE 1073 when neve themselves makes the spx 1073 for like $1,700?
the spx 1073 is a reissue, made with cheaper internals than the originals. Whereas the BAE is usually said to be the closest thing you can get to the original 80-series 1073, also they're hand-wired and supposed to be better quality.

Haven't heard of him but damn near all of the chains are the same. It's either a Sony C800, Neumann or Telefunken mic going into a Neve 1073 or Avalon 737 preamp going to a Tube Tech CL1B, LA-2A compressor or a 1176/LA-2A combo.

what waves plugin emulates the cl1b? I thought the tube tech was the only cl1b plugin out there. is there others?...I thought I seen a presonus one some time ago but idk
I don't know of any at the moment but RVox is an option for sure. UA Softtube CL 1B is out there as well.
What type of a mixer is it in at 1:20 of the video?
Are they tracking with the 1073 EQ flat before sending it into the DAW? Is it common to boost the mid range on the physical unit?
Depending on the room and if theres any low end rumble from another studio near by, its common to use the 1073s high pass/low cut to about 80hz
so these big artists dont use studio consoles ?

So do you prefer the Tube tech or the CLA-2A? Also why does everyone love the 1073 so much… I’m a SSL guy the SSLE 4000 pre UAD gives amazing results. Also you forget to mention to people that UAD plug-ins require lots of DSP. I myself run 2x octo UAD satellites with an Apollo Twin. SSL Pre , Going into the CLA-2A printing into the daw . Eventually I want to upgrade and get the UAD X8 And pair it with the Craneborne 500ADT and add 500 modules that are cheaper than rack mount stuff. You should look into the Craneborne 500ADT for ur setup!

@@ZAY________ first off ... an original Neve 1073 was made 50 years ago and came out of a large console. As large studios were being sold, people started taking the consoles apart and selling the individual modules which people would then rack and use. That is the "original" that BAE is trying to copy. These days AMS Neve is making something based off a 50 year old design. To be very clear, a Vintage Neve 1073 module (if you can find one) sells for over $10-12KUSD. They are becoming extremely rare. People these days say "1073" much like people say "808" kick. It has become a marketing "tool". Most people are NOT using a real vintage Roland 808 to make their kick drums. Same as 1073. Heck, AMS Neve is trying to capitalize off a product that was made 50 years ago. BAE makes the closest "copy" of what the VINTAGE 1073 circuit was (if you go to their website they actual have pics of their new module compared to a vintage Neve Module). The biggest difference again is the input and output transformers that Marinair made back 50 years ago. I know of people that will buy the new BAE and then replace the transformers with "vintage" Marinairs to get closest to the real thing. I personally own Vintage Neve 1073/1077s/1067). I do know what I am talking about. Now, to make things more complicated, a Neve 1073 is an EQ coupled with a mic/line input. Back in the day, Neve made many modules ... 1066, 1067, 1073, 1077, 1084 etc ... all of them have the exact same mic pre circuit, the main difference being the EQ points. For those in the know, and chase the Neve sound, I would be tracking down a lesser known Neve module that hasn't been hyped like the "1073". Some would argue the best Vintage Neve module is the 1084.

@@ZAY________ not a problem ... it gets confusing these days when people say c800g>1073>CL1b .. the 1073 they are referring too can be one of 20 products these days .. I even see some studios advertising the chain, then I enquire and they are referring to UAD plugins lol ... I might post a short video on my RUclips actually showing what the "original" chain actually looks like, as most people don't own that anymore. Have a great day!
