I remember reading in a IMDB forum years ago that Cobra was Stallone’s response to Beverly Hills Cop. From what I can remember the studio approached Stallone to star in Beverly Hills Cop. He read the script and wanted it to be much darker and leave out the comedic parts. When the studio wouldn’t budge he told him he wasn’t interested. Cobra was born from his ideas he had for Beverly Hills Cop. I don’t know if it’s true but if it is, it’s a interesting story.
I heard the same thing. He definitely wanted Beverly Hills Cop to be more of an action movie.
