One of the biggest positive outcomes of what Oliver Anthony has accomplished this week is that millions and millions who've been struggling emotionally with this moment in history now know that they aren't alone, they aren't crazy, and that together we can cut through the BS and put the focus on the real problem. For that shift to happen in just a few short days is an absolute miracle.

Yes he’s Virginian, our friends just saw him play live in Currituck. “The rich north of Richmond” is how many of us farm Virginians talk about the cronies in DC. Richmond is our capital and DC is a straight 60 min shot up I95 from there.
This is the first reaction I've seen where the reactor fully focuses on and analyzes what I think is the most profound line in the song: "Young men are putting themselves six feet in the ground 'cause all this damn country does is keep on kicking them down." Mad respect, my Canadian brother.

Hi from Montreal! I've watch a couple of reaction video on this song and I gotta say, yours is spot on. The condition of masculinity is dreadful in North America right now. When blue collar young men are being shamed for being masculine, their paycheck is getting taxed to oblivion and inflation on houses and food is out of control, the dream of raising a family and owning a house is gone. Or any dream for that matter. My father was providing for 6 kids by himself (Edit: By himself financially, my mom stayed at home and did an amazing job helping in every way she could raising us) on a full time construction worker salary 30 years ago. Try to do that today. No wonder we end up with the suicide rate and opioid addiction that we see in young men in North America right now. This guy resonate with everyone in the middle class because hard work doesn't mean success anymore, it's just mean being a cattle getting drained by the government. At 8% inflation, if you don't have an 8% yearly raise, you are getting poorer by the minute. Also, Rich men north of Richmond refers to Washington DC and CAUFIELD!!! GO-HABS-GO!
He lives in a small town in Virgina, USA. The Rich Men North of Richmond refers to the politians in Washington, DC (North of Richmond, Virginia). Excellent lyric referrence and goes right to the heart of every working class person in any country. Look up the lyric about miners and minors - another excellent referrence to the miners in the Appalacian country that have been swept aside by Chinese buy out of coal mines. If this isn't an anthem for our time - I don't know what is. God bless this young man ❤
Wow. After bing-watching all the rection vids to Mr. Anthony's song I've found this one. Way different. Actually communicating something from within (I mean articulating it, because every reactor tries to convey something, to a degree). You have a way with words. That's a win. It was an honor and a pleasure to listen to you. Good job.
I'm so glad you picked up on young men putting themselves 6 ft in the ground. That made me sob. My sons, 32 and 29 have lost about 10 high school friends from su!c!de and od's. Life is so hard and sad. It's the bastards running the world. I don't think they're human, seriously. Thank You!
The beauty of this song is that every word is right on point and on target and at the same time every line is also a metaphor for the much bigger picture and problem.
The reason this is so effective is that's it's not a protest song, it's an honestly agonized cry from the heart and soul of a man desperate to just get it off his chest to release the pent up pressures of pain and frustrated demoralization that so many of us can relate to. When you want to know who seeks to rule you just look to those who are trying to silence you, for myself all I can do is hope Dr. King was right when he said “The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice.”
The war on men is just heartbreaking. Keep your head up boys, just know many of us do appreciate what you do and know our society depends on you being here ❤
I've always heard it called a steel guitar down here in the south. Wonderful sound. This is what we all need right now. I feel like this song is bringing us together for sure! And those rich men north of Richmond definitely won't like that!
We call it a dobro. My dad bought, sold, traded, and repaired stringed instruments for almost 20 yrs after retirement, especially bluegrass instruments. He even built a dobro (and a fiddle) from scratch. ❤
He’s been sober for less than two months, got down on his knees and prayed to God for help. Paraphrasing his story from something he posted. Less than 30 days after that, this song went viral. I’m old enough to remember Woody and Arlo Guthrie. This song has a similar feel to their styles, and is an anthem for the working class, a down-to-his-soul protest against our government’s policies.
Everybody is saying Country but this is pure roots folk music.. Glad someone else picked up on it.. I to remember the Guthries... My father used to play Alice's Restaurant to me and my brother when we were tots..
You’re exactly right. He is able to articulate so beautifully what so many people have trouble putting in to words(but so desperately needs to be said.)
Agree with everything you said. Yes, we understood what you meant. The fact that this song is going viral, says it all. More people in our country still have morals, believe it God, believe in merit, not equity, America needs to wake up before it's too late.
He’s speaking truth. Singing for the working man and woman. Good reaction! Rich men north of Richmond Virginia would be Washington DC where all the politicians are.
This is his first song recorded via a microphone instead of his phone. Radio WV discovered him a couple of weeks before when he played to about 20 people at a farmer's market.
Nice to see a fellow Canadian enjoying the truth of this man's lyrics. Canadian, American, British, etc. etc. - we're all living through the same imposed evil. I'm glad to see that people are now waking up.
Prayer takes many forms, it could be quiet, it could be a shout from a mountain top & of course through music. Judging from the comments & reactions this patriot story teller is stirring souls. Like David, let his song be heard, the trumpets sound, the people pray and be God's instruments to healing and restoration. During the 60's it was Credence Clearwater Revival - "Fortunate Son" that spoke for the times... now it's Oliver Anthony with "Rich Men North of Richmond." One more thing- "God's children are not for sale " - Sound of Freedom - +JMC
God is truly working through him to unite us. I've watched reactions to this from around the world. This hits for most of humanity. You are correct, it's a song for the generations. Like American Pie and the ones you mentioned. I've enjoyed hearing the personal stories that come from the watcher after hearing it. We all are connected and this song proves it. He prayed to God and this is what he gave us.
Blessings from just south of the border in Minnesota. I've been seeing every reaction to this song I can, because of the universal reaction we all have to this. It's a primal scream for freedom in a top-down society that wants to destroy hope and expects complacency in our misery. This song is doing something to every human spirit who hears it and unifies us in knowing we aren't alone, there are more of us than them and it doesn't have to be this way if we forget outward differences and see each other's spirits. Even the puppet masters are just men and they only keep us down by maintaining as illusion of helplessness over us.
I love this song and have listened it over and over again, cried every time. But. Elliot, this is the first I’ve I’ve ever been on your channel. You are a mature, articulate example of the Divine Masculine. Love you young man! You give me hope for the future!
Great reaction, thanks. I relate to your reaction. My wife and I have 6 children, 5 male 1 female. Our oldest is 24. Young children need to know their history, everyone go back 5 generations or more it grounds your children. Why is our immediate history 5 generations not know for each of us? Its so the new world is always "new". I was born in Virginia, my grandma was born on Prince Edward Island, Canada. Fantastic song
We need ppl like him and Jordan Peterson, ppl that tell the truth no matter how uncomfortable it is. btw I'm a Metalhead and I love this song...... It's a resonator guitar
You nailed it… I feel for you in Canada. The totalitarianism is awful. Growing up in Vermont I spent some time in Montreal and Quebec City. My great grandparents were French Canadian. They were tough people that took care of themselves and would be sickened to see what y’all are going through. My best to you!
The lyrics are very real! Us wives are out here watching our young husband working themselves to death, literally. Putting young men six feet in the ground, facts! Wives and mother's feel this and Oliver is telling the absolute truth.
I have never watched you before but I've seen several reaction videos of this song since it came out and you're the first person where I could tell you actually like the song and what Oliver has to say. Youre not just jumping on that bandwagon and I appreciate the realness.
This reaction got much better around the 5 and a half min mark when you stopped shouting like a football commentator and started talking to us in your normal voice. preach man, came out of a 3 year depressive state, to the point where i had 0 emotion to anything unless it was anger. it took a years worth of work, and really figuring out who i wanted to be. For anyone in that state, find the source and change it if possible, if not its time to take the steps to make it possible. Until you yourself take some initiative the depression doesnt go away. its something ive dealt with off and on since i was 9, and the only times its gotten better is when i take the initiative to better myself. Kinda a harsh reality kinda situation unfortunately. ( i know theres exceptions)
He’s at 26 Million view and counting. Keep sharing and let this man sing his song from the mountaintops. He wrote the new anthem for the working class of the world. I pray for him and hope he has more success. Great review too! Keep up the good work 💪
Great reaction and wise words coming from a young man. The guitar is a wonderfully made resonator, which amplifies acoustic guitars. Historically Appalachian people would use pie pans to increase the sound at musical get-togethers (having no electricity) and it does have a distinct sound. Naturally playing outside in the woods would call for such an instrument. If this is the kind of music you like to listen to and review I will be revisiting your channel, as this is not "country" music but rather folk music.
This song deeply resonated with me, Oliver's genuine emotions matched the deep frustration that is all too common for the once 'mighty' middle class. Every government solution involves us all giving up a little more. The common people must realize we are ALL just cogs in the machine, put away our political boundaries to stand together against the corrupt ruling class. I am a new fan, looking forward to more based truth from Oliver Anthony.
Good catch, Tyler Childers and Oliver Anthony have the same kind of "vibe" because they were both born and raised in the Appalachian Mountains in what is coal country as was Chris Stapleton... The area is FULL of wonderful storytellers with BEAUTIFUL voices....We here in those mountains have always known this and now, the rest of the world is learning of it too...
I don’t know where people are getting this from, Farmville is not in the mountains, not really even close to the mountains, I should know, I live in the adjacent county to the one Oliver Anthony is from. He lives a couple hours southwest of Richmond, VA.

you havent heard of him because this the first song he ever recorded with a mic and not just his cell phone
This is the sound of America's soul saying we've had enough
ENOUGH SAID
You touched my heart…❤️My tears are here for my beloved country…Thank you Oliver, your words are how I feel………
Honestly one of the best reactions I’ve seen, and from a Canadian, lol. Good luck up there brother, I know it’s worse there.
I'd cry in my Canadian beer, but it costs $60 for a case 😅
Talk about a song that hit a nerve! Has he awakening the sleeping giant?
The war on men is just heartbreaking. Keep your head up boys, just know many of us do appreciate what you do and know our society depends on you being here ❤
You might want to hear Oliver Anthony on his own channel. This music is now his mission. Great reaction.
I've always heard it called a steel guitar down here in the south. Wonderful sound. This is what we all need right now. I feel like this song is bringing us together for sure! And those rich men north of Richmond definitely won't like that!
Same! I've seen people commenting and saying its called a "resonater," I think? But in the South, its a steel guitar, lol. ❤
We call it a dobro. My dad bought, sold, traded, and repaired stringed instruments for almost 20 yrs after retirement, especially bluegrass instruments. He even built a dobro (and a fiddle) from scratch. ❤
I'd consider it a dobro guitar. With a pedal steel guitar the player usually sits to play it...Unless it's Junior Brown.
The instrument is a resonator guitar. I love your reaction. yes, it is 10 of 10 for sure.
Nice to see a fellow Canadian enjoying the truth of this man's lyrics. Canadian, American, British, etc. etc. - we're all living through the same imposed evil. I'm glad to see that people are now waking up.
Authentic. Real. Honest. Raw. Soul-wrenching truth. Poetic. It is the protest song of our age.
Prayer takes many forms, it could be quiet, it could be a shout from a mountain top & of course through music. Judging from the comments & reactions this patriot story teller is stirring souls. Like David, let his song be heard, the trumpets sound, the people pray and be God's instruments to healing and restoration.
During the 60's it was Credence Clearwater Revival - "Fortunate Son" that spoke for the times... now it's Oliver Anthony with "Rich Men North of Richmond."
One more thing- "God's children are not for sale " - Sound of Freedom - +JMC
God is truly working through him to unite us. I've watched reactions to this from around the world. This hits for most of humanity. You are correct, it's a song for the generations. Like American Pie and the ones you mentioned. I've enjoyed hearing the personal stories that come from the watcher after hearing it. We all are connected and this song proves it. He prayed to God and this is what he gave us.
Prayer does nothing, actions do
@@zombie-xj7gc agree- as evidenced by the song which is waking people from their quiet slumber...
So honest and heart felt. ❤
Spot on
I love this song and have listened it over and over again, cried every time. But. Elliot, this is the first I’ve I’ve ever been on your channel. You are a mature, articulate example of the Divine Masculine. Love you young man! You give me hope for the future!
What a message is he singing , absolutly love it ❤
Great reaction video, thank you. This singer speaks for everyone all over the world and it's so amazing how much this song has taken off.
Dude, your translation of your thoughts into words hits hard. Thank you.
Congratulaitions - out of the 27 reactions I have seen you are the ONLY one who addressed the suicide rates among our young men correctly - thumbs up
Great reaction, thanks.
Listening from the island today. Cheers.
You're exactly right brother, Olivers video blew up because of the incredible lyrics and beautiful delivery. ✌🇨🇦
Great Song filled with truth bombs 💣 Great reaction ! Strong 💪 masculine men are wanted and needed now, more than ever!
This Phenomenal song is for everyone "Worldwide" .. I believe things will get better!❤️
We need ppl like him and Jordan Peterson, ppl that tell the truth no matter how uncomfortable it is. btw I'm a Metalhead and I love this song...... It's a resonator guitar
He's playing a Dobro. A resonator Guitar. Great Stuff!
Dude, you are wise beyond your years! So young but you get it!!!! Don't change!!! God Bless! You give me hope! 😊
You nailed it… I feel for you in Canada. The totalitarianism is awful. Growing up in Vermont I spent some time in Montreal and Quebec City. My great grandparents were French Canadian. They were tough people that took care of themselves and would be sickened to see what y’all are going through. My best to you!
Well he’s been helping all y’all out because everyone reacting to this video I’m following! 😁✌️
My thoughts exactly. If I have no other comment to make, I comment.
"Oliver brought me here. 🙏"
The lyrics are very real! Us wives are out here watching our young husband working themselves to death, literally. Putting young men six feet in the ground, facts! Wives and mother's feel this and Oliver is telling the absolute truth.
That type of guitar is called a dobro. It's what Lynard Skynard is singing about in the Ballad of Curtis Loew
Hey bro, thank you for your words at the end, that meant a lot. And i ain't gay, but I know a handsome man when I see one. 😂 Take care! ❤
That's awesome to hear thank you so much for the support and hahaha thanks man I appreciate it!! 😂
I have never watched you before but I've seen several reaction videos of this song since it came out and you're the first person where I could tell you actually like the song and what Oliver has to say. Youre not just jumping on that bandwagon and I appreciate the realness.
It's not country music, it's called America folklore. Oliver and his song is a God send and is uniting people.
This reaction got much better around the 5 and a half min mark when you stopped shouting like a football commentator and started talking to us in your normal voice. You stopped 'performing' and started having a conversation with us, probably because the lyrics made you feel something real. thanks for the reaction and the best of luck with your channel, dude.
This guy is singing straight from his soul...he's playing a resonator guitar.
Beautiful message, lovely man. Christopher A Lunsford ( Oliver is his Grandpa) touches all the right chords through such moving music! Connects all who have hearts to truly hear.
Cathartic and cleansing ~
Next steps need to follow
Gratitude ~ Optimism~Expresdion~
plus Action( ie knowing your reps ## by heart, esp. @ their N. of Richmond offices)
you haven't heard of him because he's a farmer from Virgina that lives off the grid and records his music on his cell phone to post on RUclips. he's been playing soulful bluegrass like this for 3 years to about 200 people. some college kids with a RUclips record label found him and did a studio quality production for him and it got 7 million views in 4 days.
5:10 I've watched 30 or so of these reactions and you are only the second person to acknowledge this line. 50,000 people killed themselves in America in 2022. 75% of them were men and no one cares.
preach man, came out of a 3 year depressive state, to the point where i had 0 emotion to anything unless it was anger. it took a years worth of work, and really figuring out who i wanted to be. ( i know theres exceptions)
he's a hero, this needs to be said!
He’s at 26 Million view and counting. Keep sharing and let this man sing his song from the mountaintops. He wrote the new anthem for the working class of the world. I pray for him and hope he has more success. Great review too! Keep up the good work 💪
You make total sense. He’s from the US. It’s awesome to hear the perspective from someone in another country. Thank you.
This song broke me. The pain in his voice...
If this is the
kind of music you like to listen to and review I will be revisiting your channel, as this is not "country" music but rather folk music.
He is speaking for tens if not, hundreds of millions of people in North America
The power of music 🎶 to bring us together
Elliot, you did an excellent job expressing your thoughts, N'est-ce pas?. I'm from Ohio, but I remember a little bit of high school French!
Haha merci !!! :)
