I really feel like Shadow is a good evolution of the adventure style games with the multiple paths adding to the replayability and not having too many levels overstay their welcome
speaking on life is strange 1 as someone who jumped in when episode 3 first came out it was FULLY dated when it first dropped and also was always kinda rough in quality but i can never bring myself not to love it tbh. i think it's a mix of nostalgia, the barren landscape that was queer representation or romance in high profile video games circa 2016 which made LiS so notable and special for us, and the powerful well-intentioned earnestness in LiS's writing that shone through all the jank and weird outdated slang written for american teen characters by middle aged french men. like you can say a LOT about its writing but you cannot say they weren't trying really really hard. i consider it gay surrealist high art tbh i'd even go so far as calling it lowkey camp
