- Have you ever wondered what animals you won't find in Alaska? Does Alaska have any venomous animals? Some of the animals that do exist in Alaska will shock you! Watch this video to learn about the animals that don’t exist in Alaska. Be sure to stop by & say hi to @alaskacutthecord769 & @curmudgeinnak . At the end of the video, I stated that I would be making crawfish etouffee and would share the recipe which you can find below.
Crawfish Etouffee
Ingredients
4 tablespoons butter
4 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 medium onion chopped (or leeks)
1 medium bell pepper chopped
1 stalk celery chopped
4 cloves garlic chopped (optional - I am allergic 😉 )
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (again optional...see above)
1/2 teaspoon oregano
1/2 teaspoon thyme
1/4 teaspoon crushed black pepper
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper or to taste
1/4 teaspoon salt or to taste
2 cups chicken stock or use seafood stock
1 pound crawfish tail meat par-cooked
1 tablespoon chopped parsley
2 cups white rice (cooked)
Instructions
Melt butter over medium heat in a large deep skillet. Add the flour stirring continuously until the roux turns a copper color. Do not let the roux burn. Add the trinity of vegetables (onion, peppers, celery) and garlic. Stir and cook for 5 minutes to soften. Add seasonings and spices with the broth. Reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add the crawfish tails and warm them through. Remove from heat. Serve over white rice and garnish with hot sauce. Makes a wonderful breakfast too!

Hi Friends! I mention in this video that blackberries are not found in Alaska. This is not to say that you cannot grow them here, but they are not hardy to most of our grow zones and therefore will not establish as a perennial crop. With that being said, Alaska does have an arctic blackberry, Rubus arcticus. However, the growth habit is nothing like that of a traditional blackberry plant and the fruits are much smaller.

Fortunately blackberries are something that grow good where we live and there is nothing like a blackberry cobbler 😋

I have three Great Pyrenees that weigh 200 lbs each, they are breed for guard dogs, that fight off bear's, wolf's, lion's and most any other predators, they have a 700 lbs bite force, and are highly aggressive K-9's. Very loyal to their owners and Very protective of their owners, even from family members. I'll let you know when Kue and two socks have puppies.
I have 2 yorkshire terriers and a cat. They are a fierce pack together.. I dont let them out at night though, but they have fought off foxes and other smaller preditors here. 🤣
@@ibislifewe have a couple of Pyrenees and recently adopted a Boston terrier pug mix and he thinks he is just as big as they are. What he lacks in size he makes up in enthusiasm 😊
Hi Jack! When it comes time to get another puppy, Great Pyrenees are on the list, amongst a few others. I would like to have a large guard dog that is capable of defending against large predators. Thanks for keeping me in mind. 😉

I've always wanted to be in the Mountains, I came here eight years ago because of the opportunity at the time was one o couldn't pass up.
I was able to buy the land with the very little income I get from my social security, the doctors stopped me from working 15 years ago; they, said if I want to keep walking, I should retire, so I did, and so I do what I must to survive out here, because I don't like towns and cities.
It's not easy, and sometimes it puts me in bed for a few days, but I wouldn't change a thing. The pros far out weigh the cons, the only thing I would love better is to move to the wilderness of Alaska. If it be God's will, then so be it. He gave me this place, if He wants me in Alaska, He'll make it happen one way or another. I just have to have faith.
I had to euthanize two rattlesnakes in just the last three days, I believe the rain we've been having has Removed all the old sent of animals, and they are following the sent in the air from our animals, and they come close to the buildings.
Kue and Spike tangled with a porcupine, they are not happy, and they didn't like me afterwards when I pulled out the quills. Twosocks upchucked all over my bed, cost me $70.00 to go get laundry done so I can have bedding, I don't like sleeping in my overalls, I like my queen size bed. She also got bit by the rattlesnake, but i didn't realize it until I found the snake, and it had its tail bitten off. The vet says we can only hope she fights it off and recovers. I'm doing everything I can to make her comfortable, raw meat is then only thing she keeps down, so she is being spoiled with raw meat, and on top of that, she went into heat. She is still drinking water fore to five times a day, and lays down, plays just a little sometimes, and still wags her tail when I rub her belly. I have hope she will make it through.

Hi. We just bought 70 acres and we are fixing up the house to move permanently too by winter. Same as your property, no one has lived on it for upwards of ten years. The property also has lots of river fro take so there is tons of wildlife on it. So far by working out there over the last month we have seen deer moose bear coyotes beaver and wolf. We never get tired of seeing the wildlife. Anyways enough of me,,,,great video. I always enjoy seeing your videos, 🌷🇨🇦
I remember watching an earlier video with that wolf howling footage. I've done plenty of solo camping in the wilderness down here but the most nervous night I've ever had was in 2009. I was camping in Kootenay National Park in Canada and there was just myself and one other couple in the huge park campground. All night I lay in my tent listening to the wolves howling. I don't think I slept for more than 10 minutes at a time all night.

Hi Matt! When you’re in a tent… lol , branches breaking… rustling leaves and certainly wolves howling would get my nerves going! We have a very large abundance of Black bears and moose here in Maine… that’s enough for me!😅

Love it, I’m from Maine and moved to texas, now home sick,being half native we moose hunt deer hunt, and anything wild we grew up on,I did run into Bigfoot once, the native name is gwackoo it means one who eats a lot, never believed in it growing up, thought it was just a boogie man to control us little Indians, lol boy did I get a suprise at 16 years old, I believe now, at 6 foot 7 inches and 300 pounds, I felt so tiny standing in from of it, I was to scared to move, all I could say was a kinda grunt, lol it looked at me for about one minute, wasn’t threatening in anyway, and turned and just walked away, now at 65 years old, I still wish I could have tried talking to it, never see it again, but saw tracks many years later while snowmobiling, but that’s it, I don’t think it would hurt anyone, but wild animals can’t be trusted, thanks for your awesome videos ❤

Most of the animals you mentioned that don't live in Alaska, we have here in Costa Rica.
I've had Pumas, jaguars, kinkapoos, in my yard and of course monkies everywhere.
Snakes and crocs abound, dangerous and deadly, and all protected. The Fer de Lance just recently killed a friend's 7yo daughter when their house flooded.
We rarely have animal attacks except for the snake and croc. Most animals are used to people and just ignore them.
I am glad you are armed and can protect yourself. But this abundance of wildlife is one reason why we move to places like Alaska and Costa Rica. True adventure.

Hey love. Found your channel. Watching an older video of yours. three years ago wife and I sold our house in Washington state and bought a farm in Missouri. She’s there now I’m back in Washington state working and I drop the bomb to her after this project. I’m headed to Alaska. I love the fact statement you made one of your old videos I don’t wanna die in a nursing home a hospital or anywhere else and I go back up there to live out the rest of my life being I’m getting older. So I’m soon going to be hunting for a chunk of land and a cabin up there and I’m learning from you what to look for. Keep up the good work !!!❤

On those hills, flowers will not hold soil. I don't know why you took away the native vegetation, but you have an uphill battle because those bushes and trees will not be absorbing all that moisture.

As we hear you say no blackberries, and read what you wrote in the comments, we were surprised to hear that. We have a five plus acre field full of blackberries. Hi Paula and Jason! Congratulations on your first 600 subscribers! That is awesome! Yes, I was disappointed to find learn that common blackberries and even hops do not grow wild in Alaska. These are two of my favorite plants. I may just try planting some in pots and see if I can get them to overwinter. Not sure how I would be able to make that happen, but maybe I will find a way. 🤗🐺💗

I can attest that Alaska is a very friendly state. I live in the South and I think Alaska is the only state “up north” that compares. Definitely looking forward to retirement near Wasilla in a few years (I didn’t know porcupines climbed trees either until a few months ago).

I did something the same as you do in planting wildfires pollinators all over my lot front yard side yards covered in White Clover Crimson Clover got Timothy grass coming up and I planted regular grass and once it's growing up I would be letting the chickens in it for half an hour every night before dark so they can't tear it up again and it will feed them I also put my old steel bathtub in the backyard filled it up with logs wood and soil then I put the same in the bathtub and I put wire over top of the bathtub so they can't rip it all out they can only eat what gets up high give them a little bit of greens in the backyard too yummy happy chickens good eggs
Do'nt worry about Adders, flower. They, like all "wild" animals despise "humans", and give us a wide berth. We've had 'em here in Albion for millenia, and there's a handful of recorded "death by snake bite"

Hi JR! Yes, I had heard that before, but it is still very interesting. Another viewer asked if people eat swans, which I had never given any thought to before today. As it turns out the reason the Royal family owns all the swans in England is that King Henry III loved eating swan and eventually this law was put into place so that the commonwealth could not feast like a king. Who knew??? 😳 🤗🐺💗
I can’t think of any animal you would want to run away from in Alaska
we do have mountain lions up here in alaska even down here on the kenai peninsula! i know this for a fact, i have seen photo`s taken here on the peninsula of one and another of a mother lion and a cub, photo taken not more than 12 miles from my place.
