- This video shows a segment of my Sunday February 5th, 2023 skating adventure on the Trent Severn Waterway in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. Completed in 1920, the Trent-Severn Waterway spans a total distance of 386km, connecting Lake Ontario with Lake Huron through a series of 44 locks. In this video I skated approximately 800 metres from the top of Ashburnham Lock #20 to the bottom of the Peterborough Lift Lock #21 (not #19 as I accidentally called it in the video). I passed under the Maria Rd swing bridge and another swing bridge for Canadian Pacific Railway's Havelock Subdivision.

I filmed this using my Galaxy S22 smartphone, held in my hand while skating.

Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the video. Great seeing a video from you again..
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it.
CJ thanks for making this great video. We your followers have missed you very much.
Thanks, I appreciate it.
CJ, I took my dog to the Rosedale Golf club today, and was recalling your terrific video last year cross country skiing. Because of that video, I was informed that the public was allowed to enjoy that incredibly special area of Toronto you would never normally see.
I am always grateful of the content of your videos.
It was highly ironic that you posted this video later that same day after a long hiatus.
You were missed.
Awesome! I'm glad I was able to pass along my tip about that golf course. I only learned about it thanks to a comment that was left on one of my videos!
Great video.....great hearing from you again. I'm looking forward to more of your summer videos!
Thanks.
Great to see you in action again! Keep 'em coming 👍
Thanks!
Good to see you back on RUclips, all the best.
Thanks.
We really enjoyed this video. Your phone gives a very steady image. Thanks for bringing us on your adventures.
Thanks! Image stabilization has certainly come a long way since the first time I tried to record a video while skating, back in 2011.
Always happy to see your videos from enjoying the outdoors. Where I live in Norway there's usually neither snow nor ice, so it's good to watch it on the screen.
Awesome. Glad you enjoy them.
Amazing to see! I was there last summer with 35 degrees 🤣 greetings from the Netherlands!
Wow haha! Thanks, glad you enjoyed it.
Thought you would’ve studded the Green Machine and rode down the canal 😂 lol. I thought it would have been to warm for the canal to be open for skating.
haha well it wouldn't be the first time my green machine has ridden over frozen water. I had been quite cold in the days leading up to the day I went skating there, so I was pretty sure it would be open that day (and confirmed on the website).
Happy new year CJ hope you are good, hope to see more of your videos, have a great day my friend!
Thanks. All is well with me.
@cjhoyle I've ridden my bike all winter so far
@cjhoyle have you thought about buying a ebike?
@@michaelmatthews4096 No, I have never considered that.
@cjhoyle it's a good option for a easy riding experience
Great to see a video from CJ Hoyle pop up on RUclips today! It's been a while! Looks like a cool place to skate Christopher! My friend's sister lives in Peterborough and she posted on Strava her skate along the canal just the day before you went there! I didn't know that they had a section of this canal open for skating. Do you know if any other sections of the Trent Severn Waterway have skating?
Wow, small world! I'm not aware of other parts of the Trent-Severn that are maintained for skating, but I've never researched it. I heard about skating on the canal in Peterborough a few years back, and it took me a while to finally get there and actually do it. I feel very fortunate having been able to skate in Peterborough this winter, considering Ottawa didn't get the chance to open their skateway the whole winter!
Not lock #19
Oops, thank you. I've made the correction in the video description.
