  • This video shows my Friday June 2nd, 2023 cycling tour through Iqaluit, Nunavut, Canada. The video begins at the Iqaluit Airport (YFB) towards the northwest end of town. From there I followed Ungalliqpaat and joined Federal Rd heading Southeast. After a quick detour past the Nunavut Legislative Assembly, I briefly rode along Mivvik St before joining Queen Elizabeth to continue through the centre of town. After passing Northmart, I turned onto Sinaa to ride along next to the frozen water of Frobisher Bay before turning north onto Qajaq, and returning Northwest along Nipisa St and Palaugaa. After making a left turn onto Niaqunngusiariaq I ended the video just east of Federal Rd.
Some of the points of interest that I passed along the ride include: a view of the newer houses built on the Plateau, the baseball field, the Aqsarniit Hotel (the new hotel), the Inuit Broadcasting Corporation, the Black Heart Café, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) building, the Qimugjuk Building, the Nunavut Legislative Assembly, RBC Financial Group, the Iqaluit Canada Post office, a dental clinic, CIBC bank, Tim Hortons, Northmart, Nakasuk School (elementary school), the Unikkaarvik Visitor Centre, the Nunatta Sunakkutaangit Museum, the Iqaluit Harbour pier, the KFC / Pizza Hut / Quick Stop, the Snack restaurant, the Frobisher Inn, St. Jude's Anglican Cathedral and the Iqaluit Aquatic Centre.
In this video I was riding a CCM Inception bicycle which I borrowed. I filmed this using my GoPro HERO 9 Black action camera mounted to a chest strap. I recorded the audio with a modified dreamGEAR gaming headset, plugged into an old smartphone. Unfortunately I had forgotten to bring the equipment that I normally use for recording audio with me on this trip, so I had to make do with what I could find in the stores in town.

Wow, what a great opportunity through work to get up north. Thanks so much for giving a tour, I am impressed with how modern it looks. I am sure there is some incredible engineering at work for those conditions! I am in awe how those up north survive and thrive. I wish we all knew more about day to day lives of those up there.

I thoroughly enjoyed watching this video - you did a great job of keeping the image stable and pointing out all the places of interest. I lived in Iqaluit for 5 years, and had the privilege of going to many other Nunavut communities for work. This brought back many fond memories - thank you for making and sharing the video.

Wow! This is so cool Christopher! That is so neat that you had the opportunity to visit Nunavut on a work trip and then spend a couple extra days there to explore more! I was surprised to see as many paved roads as there were. I didn't think that they were able to have paved roads in that part of Canada. Looking forward to watching your other videos from Nunavut! Also, congratulations on getting over 50,000 subscribers on RUclips! I just noticed that you had passed the 50,000 mark.

In my previous video, you mentioned that a Facebook group comment I made tipped off my location. Was it my inquiry about renting ski equipment? lol As you know, I try to keep my trips/videos a secret until the videos are ready to be posted, but I wasn't expecting you to be quite so observant 😉

Hi CJ. Hope you are well. Have you ever considered a ferring for your linear to cut down effects from headwinds and improve aerodynamics? BTW Do you know of a great retailer of Tadpole Trikes, Recumbents including Linear, Limos and Longbikes called the Bicycle Man in Alfred New York, Just steps North actually in the small hamlet of Alfred Station NY? P.S I gather you may perhaps know a recumbent maker called Easyracers who made the Gold Rush Replica, but this had Above seat steering and you seem to primarily prefer USS. Any award for 50K subscribers?

From watching interviews with people who live that far north (on Russian side) - looks like it takes a special kind of people to get attached to these faraway and harsh lands. Most come, spend some time, and then leave, while selected few just stay there, finding some kind of inner peace.

thanks for the video cj. i was curious as to what kind of bike you were able to get ahold of, and how it rode [ if you have never ridden one like it ]. i also noticed those mega potholes , and how the image stabilization held up very well on them. last , 🤷🏾‍♂ that hot dog bun seemed a little on the " blackened " side of things 🤦🏾‍♂ but the chili looked inviting. its always enlightening seeing the different areas of the world, and whats going on, thats the beauty of social networking imo

I provided the make and model bike in the video description. It was a fairly standard department store bike. It only had 7 speeds, which wasn't great for the hills. It had a few minor issues, which I would have happily fixed, but I didn't have access to tools. I was just grateful to have any bike to use!
