great ration!!! well thought, well structured, well packed, well labeled (the usual case for Anzac rations) greetings from Chile, your friends in the South Pacific
Don't know if someone already mentioned it, but when we were attached with the Kiwis, from 25th ID US Army, they showed that the bottom of the Match Tube you can pull off the sticker and you'll have a piece of Flint on the bottom of it, in case you run out of matches used for Hexamites to heat up your Rations.
The little green pad is to clean your mess tins and your canteen cup if you used them for cooking. Real good at taking off the burnt-on soot from your hexi, or even to clean your gas piston in your rifle! :D
The condensed milk can be added to the cereal for extra milky sweetness or even spread on the crackers or muesli bar to moisten them. In the old RAT packs we had things like rice as we had to cook our meals or heat up the cans of beans or stew. That gave us a great NZ pudding boil the rice add condensed milk and the small box of raisins from the pack and yummy rice pudding. We had to watch the chocolate as it had a strange effect it was a laxative if eaten too much or too often. I see you don't get the wax toilet paper we used to get, that could be the use for the small green square just chew it down and and a military clean digestive tract from top to bottom.....:( lol
I really enjoy your MRE videos and I appreciate you making them :) Trying to get my hands on a couple myself. I actually skip to the last few minutes where "the boss" tries them herself before actually watching the whole video! She's such a sweet heart.
I like the idea of the tube of sweetened condensed milk. Not only can you use it in the coffee & yea, but you could also use it as a butter substitute on the crackers, etc.
Kiwi Dude Are such tubes ever sold in grocery or camping stores ?Never saw any such item at the Australia store in Rainier Washington but I had great hope a few weeks ago in Orange County California when I discovered an English-Indian market, alas no such luck.
Good Lord thats the right amount of food you will need while being in the field !!!!!! i bet there's a lot of happy men serving in NZ army ...... you sir are the best mre reviewer on the net, quite a enjoyable afternoon of mre reviews you offered
Thanks very much for the kind words. This ORP was like a bottomless pit. Would easily last 48hrs if performing light/moderate activities. Very tasty too! :)
That green pad usually has soap on one side and is used for cleaning the cups canteens after burning hexi-cubes, as they leave a lot of residue on the cups.
Seeing the muesli packet in your video brought back some memories for me. When I was serving in a Canadian Army reserve unit 36 years ago, our breakfast ration packs came with pouches of muesli with milk powder. Just add cold water from a canteen and stir. It was actually quite tasty.
Hi Rose, I think your RUclips settings may be preventing me from replying to your comment directly, but Muesli is a popular breakfast dish usually consisting of rolled oats, dried fruit, nuts, seeds etc...
Pretty complete MRE. The little green pad is a scrubbie used to clean your mess kit and utensils. The little sure is loving it. How was the Morrocian Lamb? Try maple syrup and raisins with the Muesli. Great video thanks.
Hi there, Moroccan Lamb was very tasty, but like most MRE entrees the seasoning is always on the 'safe' side to appeal to the widest tastes. A little salt and pepper really brought it to life. Maple syrup sounds great over muesli!
We have condensed milk "Kondensmilch" over here in Germany, too. Not as part of a MRE, but regulary in supermarkets, in little tins. We use it, because you can use it for many months, even after you opened it.
Greetings from Vancouver Canada! Saw your generous gift to Gschultz9 and I came here immediately to find out if Marmite is included in the pack. By the way, Marmite is the single greatest food stuff in the universe. Are you a lover or a hater? I can eat the stuff with a spoon. When we were kids we each got a tin of Eagle Brand Sweetened Condensed Milk in our stocking at Christmas. Pure liquid candy! Thanks for the complete and entertaining review.
Hi there! Marmite is indeed in the pack :-) As much as I shouldn't say it (being Australian made n'all) I actually prefer Vegemite to Marmite. I think it's just because I was raised with Vegemite in the cupboard. You're either in one camp or the other. But yes, I'm a big fan of those types of spreads :)
That sweetened condensed milk is addictive! Perfect way to whiten/sweeten the brews too. It should be a mandatory item in all rations, but it's probably the best kept secret.
You know it's good when your children like it. I tried that once with my kids in the 90's when I was in the US Army...they were unimpressed to say the least. But the MREs have improved since I tried that experiment. By 2001, when I got out, they were pretty good. Very interesting ration pack you have there. I've never heard of some of that stuff.
The boss is so gorgeous! I love her reactions! She seems so sweet! This MRE/ORP looks awesome so far! So much stuff in it!! I had my first MRE the other day, it was a breakfast one, super awesome! I tried to film but i am nowhere as good as you haha! Keep up the good work! I love love love your videos!
ChaoSSxRiot Well if you do put one up, let me know. I'd love to check it out. Don't worry, we all made goofs of ourselves in our earlier videos, and often still do! ;-)
The sweetened condensed milk might make the muesli nicer. It also might make the cocoa pretty nice as well. Coffee and tea as well of course. Thanks for the video! :)
Used to use hot water in my muesli with a sachet of drinking chocolate and some of the condensed milk. That got rid of the blandness. Looks like the ration packs haven't changed much in the last 20 years since I was last eating them
i dont understand why countries have stuck to hexane heaters. It can give away your position. if you can see a lit cig at night about a mile away then you can see these things burn too.
Damn! a soldier from the new zealand army eats all that in just 24 hours??? my goodness! after eating all that the day after they mustn't be able to move!!! haha, I see it that way Greetings from argentina
Haha, yep - she's WAY more adventurous with food at 4 years than I ever was. She definitely finds it hard to resist going straight for the dessert/chocolate first though.
watching this 2016 and probably one of tho coolest mre unboxing plis its awesome that all this is new zealand not everyone notices us plus im from wellington
Love your videos I watch them all them time while I am in the hospital. This just takes my mind off of everything. I love the 24 hr/ones from other armies and countries and place the best. How come you put cold water in the muesli instead of hot and I wonder how the sweetened condensed milk would have been in the muesli.
prettyash927 Hi there, great to hear the vids are giving you some enjoyment from the hospital. Best wishes for a speedy recovery! Muesli is a bit different from Porridge or normal oats, it's (almost) always prepared with cold milk, or in this case as there was milk powder in the packet - cold water.
we can buy Marmite in every US grocery store. It's a relative newcomer but I would say it's been here at least 15 to 20 years. I had to live in the UK to come back here and notice it! Lol
I can only imagine another use for the sweetened condensed milk would be to mix it up into the muesli for a bit of taste. Aside from in the tea or coffee, it's the next most likely option in my eyes.
I've yet to see any videos posted of it, but I wonder if you've yet to receive any "Mountain House" brand rations? They're not military issued or made by any of the big 3 as far as I'm aware, but they're an American brand. Comparable to your "Back Country" brand for New Zealand. It'd be interesting to see how they stack up, from the view of someone with experience in ration quality.
Thanks for making these videos. Im part of a airsoft team who plays day long games and with your videos i know witch ones i want to get 👍big help! Cute girl by the way
Yeast Extract or Veg-E-Mite... I have tried it only once up here in Canada.. A friend of mine brought some back from a trip to Australia... To me it tastes of Beef Bullion that is highly concentrated.. a little of it goes a LONG WAY... just a scant amount spread on toast is all you need.. Delicious however..
noticed it said water disinfection on the pamphlet.. could the green pad be used to run water through it for that purpose? or am I completely wrong and it would just make your water cloudy with microscopic pieces of hard scouring pad lol idk just thinking out loud lol great videos! I love all of them! #greetingsfromCANADA ❤🍁🍁🍁
davek12 I just had a quick look through the video and at 8:34 on the contents sheet it's listed as Marmite. A detail that escaped me both during the review and afterwards editing!
Hi sir! your daughter is so adorable =) she's cute..and Hungry as well =) Hope to see her again in your future post's! More power Kiwi Dude Frm. Mike (PH)
Thanks Mike. Both of us look forward to video/review days a lot, so she'll hopefully be my 'assistant' for as long as she continues to enjoy doing it ;-)
Kim Fujiwara Lol.. Not all the time. I actually thought the New Zealand accent was pretty 'vanilla' in the whole scheme of things. When I'm editing these videos I get sick of hearing my own voice, so I'm glad someone's enjoying it ;-)
That green pad is actually a type of recycled edible biscuit. They don't taste very good but it makes going to war appear more eco-friendly to civilians.
Kiwi Dude Territorial Forces. Scrolling through RUclips and somehow found this, wondered what someone would think of the ORPs. What I normally do is chuck the chocolate drink, a sachet of sugar and some jam into the muesli bag before mixing up with water. I usually crush up the cabin bread and chuck it into a meat pack for a meal and break up the noodles and chuck it the other meat pack for another meal, with some variation of other stuff. And I guarantee you everyone will have sucked on the tube of condensed milk at some point in their career, but it does dehydrate quite a bit.
Kiwi Dude Here's a challenge; a tankie told me they used to put everything in a rat pack together and eat it in one meal. Everything. Except the matches, wipes, scratchie pad and gum. Could you do it?
Ive seen a few of your video, I have to say, I feel bad for our Kiwi brothers who's fighting in the front line. our meal is the least attractive out of all, and probably the least scientific. John Key, TAKE CARE OF OUR MILITARY BROTHER AND SISTERS! instant noodle in a military pack!
Jersey Mike's Rail Videos That's a tough one. I like the way that individual meal rations can neatly divide up the day. With 24hr rations I have a tendency to wolf down all the things I like earlier in the day, leaving me with a fairly unimpressive dinner, so in that regard - the individual meals come out on top for me. From an eating at home 'review' perspective, the 24hr rations are definitely my favorite to tuck into (especially if I haven't had that particular ration yet). There's so much to discover and taste!
That brings me to a Question i was actually wondering about before. Why specially american Soldiers dont have like a personal Cutterlyset ?! Along all the other Litter you end up whit a pile of those plastic spoons O.o ... I doubt btw. that this is like enviromental friendly plastics they use. Or is it ? They got a Fieldbottle and those Tincubs and such right ? Why no Cutterly ?!
I love your vids, and i was thinking of trying an MRE. i live in NZ and i was curious if i could use the same method as you do to get MRE's. also could you plz leave an avarage price!
YourLowPolyFriend A fellow Kiwi - hello! I've found the most cost-effective way to get U.S. MRE's into New Zealand is to purchase by the case on eBay. Just search for 'MRE Case' and sort by 'Price + Shipping: Lowest First. From there it's just a matter of doing the usual checks on the product and seller. Doing it in this manner can get you MRE's for as low as $12 NZD a piece (including shipping), otherwise you'll see singles pop up on TradeMe from time-to-time for around $30 NZD (plus shipping). Good luck with the search.
great ration!!! well thought, well structured, well packed, well labeled (the usual case for Anzac rations) greetings from Chile, your friends in the South Pacific

+Tunnel Rat That's awesome! I didn't know that. I'll have to have a look.
Wow! New Zealand doesn't mess around
I have no idea why I'm watching your videos. But I'm liking it.
Philip Joseph Great to hear!

@@KiwiDudeMRE good video where did you buy that I would like to buy one to will you tell me
I am watching all your videos as relaxing distractions, talk about some wonderful accidental ASMR!
Keep it up!
Ronny Plett Hi Ronny, glad you're enjoying them!
I really enjoy your MRE videos and I appreciate you making them :) Trying to get my hands on a couple myself. I actually skip to the last few minutes where "the boss" tries them herself before actually watching the whole video! She's such a sweet heart.
Esmour Rayne Thanks. Great to hear you're enjoying the videos!
I like the idea of the tube of sweetened condensed milk. Not only can you use it in the coffee & yea, but you could also use it as a butter substitute on the crackers, etc.
santamanone I agree. I'm surprised it's not standard included in more rations.

DreadnoughtAdventure I haven't seen them in those tubes outside of rations. I'm sure they must be out there though.
Kiwi Dude I haven't seen them in the US either. I do read about them on the buschcraft forums (specifically BCUK) in Europe though.
Of the MRE so far the kiwi one is by far the best
Good Lord thats the right amount of food you will need while being in the field !!!!!! i bet there's a lot of happy men serving in NZ army ...... you sir are the best mre reviewer on the net, quite a enjoyable afternoon of mre reviews you offered

Steve Struthers Quite a practical and healthy breakfast. Surprising that it's not in more rations than it is.
Got to repeat it, but that's the cutest little reviewer of an MRE ever!
Thanks Richie, she really looks forward to our 'video days' :)
Hi Rose, I think your RUclips settings may be preventing me from replying to your comment directly, but Muesli is a popular breakfast dish usually consisting of rolled oats, dried fruit, nuts, seeds etc...
Ok thank you
Im pretty sure it's oatmeal in the states
I think it's a cross between oatmeal and granola and unlike american oatmeal is eaten cold? Please correct me if I'm wrong
PiratesRose9098 That's a fairly accurate assessment :)
Kiwi Dude I just realized that Rose and Tyler replied to you (if you watch doctor who you would get why that is crazy)
you may have one of the cutest and well behaved daughters on youtube :)
Thank you :-)
DXSquad Adam yay for once a nice comment
That I have seen
Jeepers.......who are the 7 people who voted thumbs down on this video?
Must be those from the Vegemite camp. Saw it was marmite.
Bill23799 Lol! Probably right there.
Those who think these losers are idiots
@6:45 - You can use it to clean your weapon as well. Good piece of kit.
Pretty complete MRE. The little green pad is a scrubbie used to clean your mess kit and utensils. The little sure is loving it. How was the Morrocian Lamb? Try maple syrup and raisins with the Muesli. Great video thanks.

Kiwi Dude Condenesed milk is quite old. try this link: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Condensed_milk

CALM AND LOVE👍🏻
KIWI DUDE
The museli bar looks a lot like what we have here in the states called Fig Newtons, just a whole grain/ wheat version.
They are the same thing if you were wondering
As always great and entertaining videos buddy. Thanks so much and I can't wait to try my first MRE..
Just want to say i love your channel keep it up man!!!

My Daughter is pretty adventurous with her food (for a 4 year old) so she's the taste tester. My Son on the other hand.....
A 4 year old liking Marmite/Vegemite now that definitely is adventurous :)
If she actually likes it then its just a wider range of food for her to eat unlike me im a 14 year old who is a fussy eater :P
Corey Eames
Something you have to grow up eating. Marmite or Vegemite, that stuff is overly salted axle grease.

No, i did not upload it, i am too shy to upload it haha i made many mistake and my accent when i speak english sound off. (i am french canadian)

Yeah my school I thought I was crazy for bringing in an ORP lol
i love you channel so much keep up the great work
Remember that can you had in your ratcions? That green scrubber is used for cleaning the can you have.
24hr Ration Pack comes with an instruction manual - 105mm howitzer ... no instruction needed :-P
I lived in the UK for 10 years and there is nothing better than a toasted muffin with butter and marmite! 😊
That ration is basically equal the UK 24h ration that Steve1983 did a review, i think the ration was from 2003 and the contents looked like a lot .
So this is the start of weaponized cuteness
Used to use hot water in my muesli with a sachet of drinking chocolate and some of the condensed milk. That got rid of the blandness. Looks like the ration packs haven't changed much in the last 20 years since I was last eating them
Your child is the best part. Thanks for the review.
Thanks. She appeared again at the end of the dinner video too, and will probably be in most future vids. Kids give the most honest food feedback :)
Brings back memories.
the muesli bar look like a fig newton. I'm not sure if you have those there in New Zealand
The Glowing Green Sponge! All Hail Spongy!
Your daughter at the end was so Cute 💕😊 love your videos !
Hi Lizeth, and thanks, she's a gem!
i dont understand why countries have stuck to hexane heaters. It can give away your position. if you can see a lit cig at night about a mile away then you can see these things burn too.
But a flameless heater generates a large heat signature as well....
That Muesli bar looks like a Fig Newton.
It seems to be essentially the same thing
Damn! a soldier from the new zealand army eats all that in just 24 hours??? my goodness! after eating all that the day after they mustn't be able to move!!! haha, I see it that way
Greetings from argentina
Ration pack for kids. Not enough calories in that for a MAN.
Your kid rocks dude. Reminds me of my little girl. So lovely. Willing to try new fun things and and definitely willing for a bite of chocolate!
Haha, yep - she's WAY more adventurous with food at 4 years than I ever was. She definitely finds it hard to resist going straight for the dessert/chocolate first though.
Kiwi Dude Life's short, dessert first. Philosophy of little girls (and some adult women) everywhere lol.
Imagine turning up to school with one
the green pad is also used as a useful fire starter if u add electricity to it it sparks
Sounds like a fun thing to test!
that choc is Def morale in the field mate haha on point 👍
Dammit, Kiwi!! I'm trying to get to sleep!! I get to like 16:52 and now I want a COFFEE!! That does NOT mesh well with my plans, man!
Sean Condon Lol!
I love all of your vidios and think there really fun to watch
Thank you Lilly, I'm glad you're enjoying them!

Muesli is a bit different from Porridge or normal oats, it's (almost) always prepared with cold milk, or in this case as there was milk powder in the packet - cold water.
In Russia, we put cans of sweetened condensed milk in a steamer for hours, so it would become brown. :)) It's delicious!
Maja Melnik It sounds delicious.
hi, :)
sweetened condensed milk is not to coffee. It is something like liquid candies. You should eat this directly from the tube. it is delicious.
Aleksander Jurewicz I agree, totally delicious. Works great for sweetening and whitening tea/coffee too.
amazing review as always!!
Cheers mate.
Cheers!

I love looking at this stuff because I try to guess what all these names are in (US) English.
Im 9 and i have tried 3 mres (one commercial others military) and they are awesome! Except the maple sausage it suckued but it wasnt the genuine one
I love watching your videos and it cool that your from new zealand YAYA

very informative and entertaining cheers from USA
Shawn Days Thank you, and greetings from New Zealand.

Shawn Days Hope you make it out here some day. Dr. Vissar has certainly done a lot for the Orcas.
orcas are my fav animal from all the videos ib seen NZ is so beautiful if i ever go to NZ i will post in advance love to have some beers with u
Shawn Days November thru March is the best time to head down here. Good weather for a cold one outside ;-)
Wouldnt be an NZ ration pack without multiple varieties of muesli.
Thank you. Great video!
Thanks Peter!
noticed it said water disinfection on the pamphlet.. could the green pad be used to run water through it for that purpose? or am I completely wrong and it would just make your water cloudy with microscopic pieces of hard scouring pad lol idk just thinking out loud lol great videos! I love all of them! #greetingsfromCANADA ❤🍁🍁🍁
Nice selection, but things like the match container and large tube of milk really blow up the costs.
Jersey Mike's Rail Videos That's right, it's all comes down to cost at the end of the day. Love that match container and condensed milk though!
where is number one for the n.z 24hr packs i see 2, 3 ,4 but not one... is the 3 min preview part one??
Well Hey, I am impressed with it!!! Well thought out Rat!
circuscase It was really enjoyable. A lot to eat in a single day if just relaxing in the weekend like I was, but perfect for an active day.
In addition to tomato sauce what are some other NZ staples? Can you recommend an NZ cookery book?
The Edmonds cookbook. A baking powder manufacturer, they have had a cookbook out for about 100 years.
Maybe the yeast spread is not identifiable from maybe having been a generic store brand type version instead of either name brand one.
davek12 I just had a quick look through the video and at 8:34 on the contents sheet it's listed as Marmite. A detail that escaped me both during the review and afterwards editing!
Where did you buy this pack? These seem to contain alot more then ADF ration packs so id rather buy one of these.
Hi sir! your daughter is so adorable =) she's cute..and Hungry as well =)
Hope to see her again in your future post's! More power Kiwi Dude
Frm. Mike (PH)
Thanks Mike. Both of us look forward to video/review days a lot, so she'll hopefully be my 'assistant' for as long as she continues to enjoy doing it ;-)
Love your voice/accent
Hey Kim, up until I started doing these videos I didn't even think I had an accent :-)
Ohh then I bet you get comments like this all the time haha. I think your voice is very soothing
RJ Hoover Lol!
I like that concept.
i'm a kiwi and was wondering where did you get the ORP from
I can imagine the amount of foods/accessories that would be traded around between individuals.
Cant wait until i join the defense force.
Just as a side note the green thing also comes in handy cleaning the carbon off the gas parts of the IW Steyr.
George Lin You sound like a man in the know :-) Have you served?
Kiwi Dude Territorial Forces. Scrolling through RUclips and somehow found this, wondered what someone would think of the ORPs. George Lin I sent NZ ORP's to Gschultz9 and Gundog4314 if you want to check out the reviews on their channel too. Welcome to the channel!
Kiwi Dude Here's a challenge; a tankie told me they used to put everything in a rat pack together and eat it in one meal. Everything. Except the matches, wipes, scratchie pad and gum. Could you do it?
George Lin As in, combine the whole lot, squish it together, then go for it? Lol. That's extreme.
Now I'm going to build a fort in my room, but one of these, and just cook in there!!!
Abby Girl Lol.. They'll definitely keep you going for a while! 3 or 4 days worth here if not doing anything too strenuous.
Hi kiwi dude just to tell you that ,well the matches are water proof
P.S : i am a infinity fan
How do you find this, Iv looked everywhere!
That Ration pack looks good, but what the hell do I know, I did 22 in the Army a Cav scout!
the yeast extract is actually marmite
Where did you buy this or if you received it how did they buy it
Hi Kiwidude & the Boss. May I ask what is a boiled sweet? I know its candy. If I have asked before on another review then Im sorry.
The tube of sweetened condensed milk got my attention....I've eaten Vegemite. Once.
Where did you get these? I'm also from New Zealand
David Lin: You can buy them from www.portionpackfoods.com or if you're in Wellington, just down the road from TePapa.
I should ask. Do you prefer individual meals or the 24 hour packs?
Jersey Mike's Rail Videos That's a tough one. I like the way that individual meal rations can neatly divide up the day. With 24hr rations I have a tendency to wolf down all the things I like earlier in the day, leaving me with a fairly unimpressive dinner, so in that regard - the individual meals come out on top for me.
From an eating at home 'review' perspective, the 24hr rations are definitely my favorite to tuck into (especially if I haven't had that particular ration yet). There's so much to discover and taste!

Hello! How did you get this? I want to eat it too.
When they are deployed, they get a set that they use every time

Kiwi Dude Hey thanks man, I love it!
