It would be one thing if you beat the engine, but since it eventually gained the advantage and won, leads me to believe that you probably aren't a prodigy. However the opposite could also be true and I don't mean to discourage you from continuing chess. Even the top chess players in the world can't beat (at least easily) the level 25 chess.com computer either. It's probably not a good measuring stick for prodigy-ness.
I'd suggest that you just play 10 minute games on chess.com until you have at least 100 games played or until your rating stabilizes, whichever comes last. I wish you great luck in your chess improvement Robin!

I would gather perhaps it's more difficult to learn from mistakes playing an a.i. as it will always be better and unforgiving. The fatigue would be harsher and you're not able to take any moment and grow from it because you can't see improvements against such an opponent. Playing someone on your level is a better experience to learn from, because it can be more forgiving. Even if you were to play someone far above you, as long as they intend to teach, you can learn a lot more from the loss.

IBM made Deep Blue specifically to beat Kasparov and fed it lots of his games, but they didn't keep up their end of the deal and let him have time to study its games. Even so he could have beaten it, but the psychological aspects of it got to him, and they refused a rematch.

i feel like somewhere reaching and right after the 2 minute mark, it is for certain the computer calculations are based on not being able to come with anything actually optimal.
the game specifically gets weirder after 2:43, either player can just start pushing any pawn they want, and then all of the sudden the computer just calculates weird piece movements.
at 3:03 it seems like literally anything can be a good play from magnus's pov.
and then after finally choosing the pawn positions they did, the computer just somehow calculates the movement at 3:49 of capturing bpawn with wpawn at e5 from f4, after magnus moves brook to a8 blocking wpawn at a7.
what if magnus just decides before 3:03 after 3:00 to take the wpawn at c5 with bbishop from d4, sure he leaves the e5 bpawn to be taken by the wrook at e6, but what if thats not what happens, and even if it does, theres still a ton of options.
he would be winning with pawns, has better positioning, and still has all pieces.
where as instead, he ends up sacrificing a rook for bishop for a game of bishop rook vs 2 rooks. and most of all each player worrying about pawns still, not just forcing the computer to worry about the black pawn while magnus can take out, block, or not care about the white pawn in various ways.
even in the very end, instead of resigning, he still has ways to force a bishop vs rook game.

I feel ya. I feel like that's why even playing intermediate bots, if they make it into an endgame with you, and they still have a chance to win, suddenly they feel way stronger in the endgame. A bot that is supposed to play like a mid tier intermediate player suddenly starts to feel like an advanced player who is champion of their local chess club.

@@thelolmaster1997 I agree Carlsen would probably win, but it would be much closer than you think. Morphy is outdated, but he is still incredibly strong. He was so far ahead of his competition that he would often give pawn odds or even knight odds to his opponents in tournaments just to make it more competitive. Today, grandmasters win games even against Stockfish with pawn odds, so it signals that Morphy could have a chance of beating Carlsen, given just how strong he was during his time. He even ended up quitting chess because there was no real competition for him.

You would have to know the larger pattern of a number you dont have the lifespan to count too just to be on par. Youd have to dedicate your whole life to theory against computers using their own frameworks. If you study each move eventually youll find a path and know its path multiple moves ahead and towards stalemate. Never checkmate though, computers dont make mistakes. Theyd never let themselves be in that position. They know which paths end to what.

Magnus and one of the best chess computers are definitely above my level of chess skills, but from what I understand, after Magnus takes the Level 25 computer's queen and rook on the next move (the Level 25 computer also will take Magnus' queen and rook in this trade), the position is simply better for the Level 25 computer. Because Magnus doesn't want to give his opponent this advantage, he avoids the situation.

He was in a fork hold position. So if knight takes c1 then queen is trapped but white knight can go to d5 and double attack Knight f6 and Qc7. So the best thing to do here was to get rid of the white knight.
