Ferreting in Norfolk

Simon found himself ferreting over the border into Norfolk. Some rabbits were making a nuisance of themselves in the hedgerows and paddocks, something had to be done. Simon fitted a rabbit proof fence and set about clearing the rabbits from around the paddocks. To begin with, he had Bella out, a real hedgerow specialist with the ferrets. The ferrets found themselves working very hard but the local rabbits didn’t fancy Ronnie, Reggie and the three degrees so they obliged and bolted fairly readily.
Simon also ferreted under a solid out building based on a concrete foundation, not somewhere for the faint hearted. The rabbits here exhibited a disinhibition of the motor neurons in the spinal cord. Oscillating muscles then give the impression that the rabbit has sprung back to life. This is why sometimes you get this thrashing about, leaping into the air when dispatched. Whereas in other rabbits drops in it's own shadow and is immediately motionless from the twist of the wrist.
The day ended with another few in the bag but this just goes to show that even though Simon has the good days in the rolling hills with friends, fast dogs and good ferrets, the bread and butter work at home isn’t necessarily going to produce such beautiful landscapes nor big bags but he has a job to do, one that he does with a lot of passion and efficiency.

What a great team you have there! the ferrets are spot on and your dog is amazing. I love the way it will look and see you have the netted rabbit and go back to watching the holes.
