Join Fy Nyth on social media - mewe.com/i/fynyth ! If you are new to my channel and Fy Nyth (Welsh for "My Nest") in general, welcome! I'm Ariel. Along with my husband Clay, our dogs, cats, bees, and some poultry, we live in a tiny house on wheels in the mountains of western Wyoming and are working on setting into our own new little homestead. I've been living this lifestyle since 2014 and my wonderful partner has joined me more recently. What will you find if you follow the channel and watch the videos?
Real life here. I try to show the good and the bad. The ups and the downs. What works, and what doesn't. The parts I love (most of it!), and the things that suck. Not just the showroom version of a tiny house, but everyday life in a tiny house. Not just the romantic idea of "homesteading" or off grid life, but the everyday details of this lifestyle. We split wood for heat, fill the water tank from a gravity fed spring, and attempt to grow as much of our own food as possible between the weather and wildlife here. I hope to help others learn from mistakes and make life just a little easier for anyone else interested in pursuing a similar lifestyle.
We live in a somewhat harsh and cold climate, but enjoy the stunning scenery and wildlife that we are surrounded by on a daily basis. You'll also see videos of the nature and wildlife around my home. If you are interested in my photography or purchasing a photo, I'd love if you follow that over at mewe.com/join/... or ArielCelestePhotography.zenfolio.com!

Thanks, dear Ariel, for this informative video that also brings us the warmth and cozy feeling of a firewood that we miss here in the midst of a city like Montreal.

Wood heat is our sole heat source. We've tried other heat sources, but none of them compare to wood heat. It's -30C here today in northern Canada and the wood heat keeps the house warm and cozy. We live in a very remote, heavily forested area, so wood is free and easy to access. Plus we can keep our house warm and cook during any power outages.

Love your channel. We just left SD to be near our kiddo but we know your area very well. We were on the Wyoming state line in SD so we spent a lot of time in beautiful Wyoming

Could you fry chicken at 350 on a wood stove or do you always want to use a covered dutch oven? Does the top get to 350?

We had a wood stove installed in our new build in 2016. We have had to use it as primary heat several times in the last 8 years. We have a heat pump with a gas furnace back up. Our heat pump has failed 3 times in 8 years during the middle of winter. When that happens we just finish out the winter with the wood stove and get the heat pump worked on at the beginning of summer for A/C.. This year we are trying a different tactic. We are bypassing the heat pump and just using the gas furnace exclusively. Our last gas bill was $92.. We have a super well insulated house so just using the furnace has only been a nominal rise in the bill. We have a gas hot water heater and stove too. We have hickory trees that shed a lot of twigs. I can pick up enough twigs in a year to last us a whole winter as kindling. We have two trash cans and 8 storage boxes full of twigs and wood off cuts for kindling and I'm picking up more every day right now. We had an ice storm last month and there's a bunch of twigs in the back yard. We love our wood stove. The way our open concept house is designed our living room/kitchen is always cold. We are in the city BTW..

Are you still heating/airing out the tiny house to prevent mold build up. I've found if we don't periodically, do either in my small van, it can get very musty in summer and mold can develop.

Ariel, so thankful for you and now, Clay. A wood stove got vetoed by my boss; but, we do have electricity and gas. Thank you again for your excellent demo and commentary…. …from an OLD war veteran, almost gone, but, not yet.
P.S. Do you think you’ll ever hire out your shop apartment or tiny house for a few days rental, like a B&B?
