The first audiobook that I genuinely loved (and continues to be my favorite) is Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe. It's narrated by Lin-Manuel Miranda, which is what got me to listen to it. He did a fantastic job and I love the storyline

I get that audiobooks are real books, but I've just never been able to get into a story by listening, and it's just not a good media for me. Even when I'm watching TV, I have the subtitles on.

you can add music in the background for setting, tone of voice.. also listening to Audio Book you can work at the same time, work out.. anything.
not everyone goes on the train/bus and has the time to sit there with a book for hours everyday.
I also use subtitles though, but it's mainly so I can have my volume low and not miss anything!

The raven cycle audio book is AMAZING. The actor's voice is deep and beautiful and it takes the book from just another fantasy story to something absolutely magical. He makes all the characters seem like they are beside you and your the silent raven, watching, listening. It's just amazing okay.

i just tried audio books 3 days ago. at first i was hesitant. that it wasnt the same with actual books, the feeling is different etc. but damn, listening to audio book is great. i can listen to it while doing my thesis, doing my household chores and walking. The only problem was me controlling my emotions. Yesterday, I was listening to the audio book The Glittering court by Richelle Mead while buying some groceries. a major plot twist happened, then suddenly people are looking at me. i just realized that my face was in shock and I am almost screaming in frustration.

Carry On in audiobook form amplifies the feels to the thousandth power. The narrator was so good. He perfectly characterized all the characters in the book. His Baz was phenomenal, it was exactly how I imagined Baz would sound like. I know I'm probably sounding like Kat right now but I just love this novel. 8 MONTHS AND COUNTING!

Love audiobooks I have a very long drive to work and it helps me to feel productive and also power through my TBR pile (which is now bookcase sized). Some are hard to get into but I feel that the more you do it, the easier it is to slip into a new narrator. :) Glad you love audiobooks too Jesse!

  • @JordynLaRee
    @JordynLaRee 8 лет назад

As someone who has a giant TBR audio books can only help with that. When I absolutely can't sit down to read an actual book, it is really nice to be able to listen to a book while I run errands or clean my house etc. it is actually a very good way to get reading done when you are busy with life and it totally counts as as actually reading.

Same Jesse!! I absolutely LOVE audiobooks, I think I like them because I was introduced to them at a very young age (five I think) I know some people don't feel totally immersed in the story but it is the opposite for me, i'm a very hyperactive person so being able to move around is really great for me.

  • @KirstyWardBooks

I started regularly listening to audiobooks last year and I'm loving them too. I honestly don't know how I ever got through life without them now as I'm hooked to the convenience. I definitely think people just need to find what works for them and build it up from there. I can now listen to almost anything and have slowly built up the speed too. So now for example I am able to listen to some audiobooks at 2x which makes me feel quite accomplished.

So grateful for audiobooks I was a die hard real paper in hand books but then I got sick and it effects my brain and since as a kid I was dyslexic(technically I still am but I had ways to get my brain to enjoy reading anyway) it also messes with my eyes so audio is my only option and I love how a narrator is can make or break a book.

i have an audible subscription. only 1 credit per month, but I also use overdrive to get audiobook from the library. sometimes, on audible, I actually choose books based on who is narrating. a good vs bad narrator can really change the experience. probably my all time favorite from audible was Dracula... it had a full cast and a soundtrack and it was really immersive. -sam

I started listening to audiobooks last autumn due to me travelling by longdistance bus to work and wanting something other than music to listen to. Now it's my go-to thing to put on when I want to read but at the same time have other stuff that needs to be done :) Thanks to audiobooks I actually got into the Percy Jackson series; I was very doubtful about it being something I could enjoy because I almost felt too old for it. But the narrator - Jesse Bernstein - did a fantastic job and I've now gone through all five books in the space of about five and a half months :)

Honestly, I've never actually tried an audiobook but I don't really want to - I think they're definitely the same as books! But I don't think they're for me. I feel like they'd slow down my reading and not let me become as immersed since I can't pick out the tone or voice of the characters. Maybe it's also cause I hate movies/TV shows and I feel like audiobooks are getting too close to that type of media for me!

i thought the same for a long time, but then i decided to give it a try, ONLY as an addition to reading regular books. like when i'm doing chores, times i want to read, but i can't hold a physical book, when i'm doing my makeup, etc. and any GOOD narrator will alter their voice for each character, really making them different, and letting you get into it. i never thought i would like audiobooks, but now that i've given them a shot, i'm really into it, and it's an awesome way to sneak even MORE reading into my life. and now i feel like audio will be the perfect format for really dense books that i'm scared to get into, like game of thrones. i recommend the diviners if you haven't read/listened to it. the woman who narrates that does a great job.
i would just say give it a try, because i was surprised at how much i liked audiobooks, and i thought i would hate them, and not be able to follow or get into anything

However, as I am old now, and more mature, I have come around. It is like having your mom read to you, which I do for my littles. Jesse! Awesome vid :) I've been listening to an audiobook a month for a while now, also via audible and it's been a great experience! I cannot find some of the titles with the narrators you mention :O
The Harry Potter audiobooks are definitely to be recommend, and my most recent one is Caitlin Moran's How to be a woman, which is great as well!

I have yet to listen to a bad audiobook. I've become addicted to them in May and now I have to listen to the audiobook for every book I read. The Raven Cycle, The Martian, Daughter of Smoke and Bone, and The Winner's Curse have all been fantastic!

I have Cinder, but I still have yet to read it. I also read The Book Thief, I did like it, and even though I did read it in 2014, now I kind of feel like I should reread it soon but not now. I have been wanting to read TID and TMI, but I'm still a little bit hesitant to read them. I actually saw A Man Called Ove one day on Amazon and right then I put it on my Amazon wish list!

The Hunger Games had a really good narrator and I still remember her name because of the way she said it. "My name is Carolinne McCormik."

Audiobooks have revolutionized my reading!!! I can read really fast and multitask with it.
I used to think they weren't for me either. And I thought it was just for non-fiction stuff. BUT THEN I got into this place called ADULTHOOD and I had to do my own chores, work, laundry and many other responsibilities. It was hard to find time to read. Audiobooks have really helped.
I read my last three books via audiobook. My fave of the three is the one for We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson. The narrator just GOT the character of Merricat Blackwood, and her voice put the right creepy atmosphere, which did justice to the modern classic.

Northern lights by Phillip Pullman is such a good audiobook, it's narrated by the author who has an awesome voice, and also a full cast of different narrators
