These insane siege missions where you get hordes of spearmen and no catapults to siege a castle can mean only one thing. We didn't kill the Rat, we ARE the Rat. Who else would be stupid enough to try attacking a castle with so many units that get oneshot by ranged units?!
Man, even the rat had access to catapults during mission 5. And he used those on pallisades, yet here we are with no catapults against a stone castle. At this point the player seems worse than rat.
I send the spearmen in 20 at a time. They get all the pitch & traps cleared out. Then I send all 300+ macemen in to fill the moat. Once filled, I withdraw the macemen. I bring up 2 tunnelers, who break the outer wall. Then I send all my macemen in to clear the outer wall defenses. At the same time, I send a handful of macemen into the courtyard to ignite pitch traps. I'm also bringing up a siege tower while the pitch burns. Once I get a siege tower in place, my remaining macemen take the inner wall. I race them around the top wall (avoiding pikemen on bottom wall), and kill The Pig in his keep.
I started this game back in the start, and have returned to it this year 2022. i struggled in level 15 and this one is very difficult. thank you very much for the memory and great time
Regarding the difficulty of getting troops to fill in the moat where you want them to: You'll get better results commanding smaller groups (of no more than 25) to dig a specific section of moat. When that group gets below about half its members send in the next 25. This is a peculiarity of how Stronghold's pathfinding algorithm interacts with its algorithm for allocating moat digging locations. This can be quickly managed by just breaking a group of 100+ into several control groups prior to an attack. The main force should be kept just behind and made to patrol in random directions.
I played this game as a kid and I beat it back then but replaying it for the first time in years I found myself struggling to remember how I did it. I'm going to use this strat, its much better than the frontal assault I tried
You can preserve a few more macemen by having the archers and crossbows spread out in a line, they'll usually kill all the enemy macemen before they get to melee range. I keep just a couple of macemen nearby but rarely need them.
I egi cheated in this level. I sent one digger (don't know the English name, it's the one with a pickaxe that makes tunnels to break walls) to the front of the castle. For some reason, the enemy didn't trigger so the gate stayed open and nobody attacked my unit. With that single digger, I destroyed both gates and most turrets. Best bug in my life
This was extremely useful, thanks. He's also not kidding about the pitch _all the hell over_ both internal courtyards. I found it very important, incidentally, to split off small groups--maybe ten-twenty macemen, or whatever spearmen you might have left--to attack the other towers while the bulk of your force is making for the keep. Too many people going for the keep and there'll be no way to keep them from spilling off the wall and tripping the internal pitch traps, plus the other archers will still be alive.
Hey David, you have a gr8 voice and good comments! I just wanna tell u good luck and keep up the good work.. :) PS: Sorry my eng is not perfect... but urs videos help me a bit learning)
Glad you like my videos, I see you also play a lot of Stronghold \ (•◡•) /. Sadly I don't speak Russian, though I'd like to learn someday when I have more time.
I am currently trying to do this on very hard (in which case I have about 1/5th of the troops you seem to have). There seems to be no way to do this. My units get killed long before they are even able to fill in the ditch... At best they are able to fill up one or two tiles of ground towards the walls before everyone is dead.
i got 200 macemen outside the Pigs tower and the entire place lit on fire. I order the macemen to go back on the wall but they decided to channel their inner WoW raider and run into the fire despite me right clickin the opposite way.

was stuck on that level for years, worked really well on Stronghold definitive . Thanks :)

Thank you so much for this guide. I was scratching my head for hours trying to figure out how to invade this stronghold.

This calls for cunning strategy!
*loses 96% of troops*
All in a days work.
My last maceman with his dying breath landed the killing blow XD.
well at least the ladderman got back back home to their moms :)
Imperial Guard doctrine baby
Slowing down the game is the main factor of winning.
¿Como ralentizas el juegos con el teclado? apretar + no me ha funcionado :(
@@fabianiturra I have the same problem. Try using auto hotkey.
Thank you your lordship

You're a legend
I cant get the Siege Tower to work. They seem to be buggy. The tower just stand there, thinking about its meaningful life

Thank you very much. Without youre help it would be my last mission in Stronghold
Still love this game
I did it without losing so much, you can use the archers to trigger the pitch fire by making them zig zag
Frustrating mission. I have no problems playing any mission on hard up to this one. Got stuck here.
This mission is a Zapp Brannigan simulator

Nice & easy strategy for this mission.
Mission is just unfun in every way and I do not understand why they put it in.
Thank you for the nice explanation, I am currently doing a Walkthrough of this game, and I was stuck on this mission ;)
so you show us who is the MASTER..... You are real gamer dude

Yeah, sadly but Stronghold is not popular game already. Thats why always great to find like-minded :)
ToBaPu4_CaHeK Agreed, Stronghold is an often overlooked RTS by mainstream gamers.
I had no idea RazingHel's name is David. Your english seems great.
thank you very much your lordship!! i won!! and in the pave a path of the mission too I won because you've shown us
Just asking, how about the pitch inside the castle, they burn my troops every time, can't get close to the main castle
Thanks again.

You must be talking about mission 15, you need to checkout guides from other channel about it, as this channel did it on Easy.
I can honestly say that the AI for my troops is really frustrating. They won't attack when I tell them to and they spread out to fill in the mote
Same they literally will not climb the wall.. they will not attack the wall.. they just freaking stand there. Hella frustrating, even on easy smh
you just gotta keep stacking them because they seek their own tile to work on.
👍🏻'd for "mown down"
Thank you

Excellent!
So, what is the tunneler there for?
I believe it was for exploiting the bug of this mission.
without you id be crying at my desk
nice tactic, thanks
that was great i thought i had to take all the walls
I thought you would use the hill with the rock on the right and kill the enemy ranged units using your bow men.
Stronghold is best game.
Hey...how I can slow the speed from my keyboard??
the + and - keys

Nice work. So what makes it very hard? Do you start with less guys or does the pig have more? It looks roughly similar to easy difficulty
he starts with less guys
Woow tanks
On the break)))
Well i kist destroyed that level! Thanks
I think this mission is way harder than mission 15 ngl
