I feel so bad for these horses. They are stuck in their stalls the vast majority of their lives, where their feet are in nasty shavings and they breathe contaminated air. I don't care how many times you clean the stall daily, that is just not how they were intended to live.
I have friends who have high dollar show horses and the poor things have never experienced turnout for any length of time whatsoever. One friend had to spend months teaching her expensive show horse how to be outside. It was very sad.

How long before you can put the foot down ??

It depends on how fast setting the glue is. While curing it will let off heat from the chemical processes of the glue. It is weight bearing when the heat is gone and the chemical reaction is complete.

How do you know the shoe is level on the foot? What if there's more glue on one side or the other?

He doesn't its such a flawed practice

If you are a good farrier you have developed an eye for what is level or not. Yes, it's quite possible to have a bit more glue on one spot than another, but a conscientious farrier will not be off by more than a millimeter or 2 .

The black cushion material is what sets the space of the shoe. It is a consistent thickness for a reason. When he prepared the foot he made the sole of the foot next to the hoof wall very flat and even with the hoof wall. After the glue sets it gets rock hard and the material allows for some compression so there is no sole pressure. It is calculated for sure, but the farriers eye is very well trained and can get more precise than you might imagine.

What kind of cushion material is it ?
    Where to get it ?
    Thx

Where do you get your cushion spacers from?

Are you screwed if the horse pulls his hoof and puts his foot down before the glue sets? At least that is my fear. Next question is how do you remove the shoe when it’s time down the road?

Yes i guess its not that easy to replace at an event. These tend not to come off though

Just give the horse msm, the hoof wil improve dramatically! On long time it wil save the horse owner a lot of money because the glue is expensive.

Although that would help, the issue with most of the race horses is obviously the extra work they put in, but also aluminum shoes draw more moisture out of the feet than regular shoes, aluminium heats up much quicker from friction and aluminum holds heat for longer as well. The mixture of quicker and longer heat exposure and not to mention that aluminum shoes do flex a bit more during stress, is a very difficult thing to avoid all together.

You should be careful, there's a pleonasm in the title of the video. Nice work, thank you for sharing !

I don't agree it's a pleonasm. Not everyone is aware that glue is even used in shoeing horses. In addition, the video itself is specifically about this type of process, which involves glue. There are so many different processes for farriers to use these days that nothing is a given for most people.
A pleonasm would be like saying "horse needs horseshoe application to race".

@@ElysetheEevee Thank you. But I am a farrier. I do not remember why I've posted that comment, perhaps the title has changed since, but I am aware of the processes my confreres and I use :)
