    Jeep Wagoneer and International Travelall. I was 15 and I was riding with my Aunt and she had a front tire blow out and I was definitely impressed on how she kept the old International on the road.

    When I think about original SUVs. I remember a story an elderly customer of ours told about her father's 1927 flint and how they would drive all over Australia, and how her dad once turned it into a truck to cart sandstone blocks and built his house, then stuck the body back on and off they went again round the country. She still had the flint, and we rebuilt the engine and got it going so she could take one last drive on her 90th birthday. That was a good day.

    Even took a hit from a rpg and we all had bruises and scrapes and drove it away. Lol

    Living down here in swampy south florida and being an avid 4x4 enthusiast ide have to say the nest vehicle for this region would be the Russian Aton impulse with it balloon tires and it's short wheel base it would do well even with its weigh of 4600lbs. The water jet Propulsion would be ideal in the swarms provided they allowed for particles not getting into the engine system. I for one would love to see how it would handle our wet season in one of our favorite off road destinations know as the JW Corbett reserve that I happen to know its trails very well I most stock off road vehicles have no chance making it through on their own. We run the trails with at least three trucks at a time where 44" up to RI tractor tires have issues. I run 54".military tires and get stuck often.

    The one grill facing us is a 1963 Jeep Wagoneer, not sure but the one on the right could be a Land Rover from the same time period. However in 1933 Chevrolet introduced us to the Suburban and by the end of W.W. 2 the Willys Jeep was proud to offer the 1946 Jeep Station wagon. So if these are indeed both circa 1960 they are about 20 years too late! Please let me know what the one on the right is and thanks for another great video!

    International Harvester Travelall (on the right) was first introduced in '53 but 4-wheel drive and the 3rd curb door was added in '56 as seen in your picture. Now the Jeep Wagoneer you have in the split picture was introduced 5 years later, but what you're not giving credit to is the '61 International Scout, the '48 Land Rover Series 1, or the '51 Toyota Land Cruiser.

    • @SteelDoesMyWill
      @SteelDoesMyWill 5 лет назад +3

      To get a 600 mile plus range from 2.0 liter diesel it must have a 30 gallon tank or larger. My VW TDI Sportwagen has the same (or similar) 2.0 liter turbo diesel and I get 40 plus miles per gallon, but with only a 13 gallon tank I usually get just shy of 500 miles per tank if I drive conservatively, 450 miles if I had lead foot. I think the Aton is the most unique and actually capable vehicle in this group but sadly under-powered. The ballon tires are great for anything off-road where you naturally limit your speed anyway, but I'd prefer the 3.0 liter TDI engine that Volkswagen and Audi use in their production SUV's and trucks (which they don't sell in the USA). That size diesel plant would put out the torque that is more appropriate for the Aton Viking's size and curb weight.

    9:00 Late 60s Jeep Wagoneer and mid 60s International Harvester Travelall.

    We're at a point where we don't need to tame the wild frontier any more than it's already been tamed. We need to get off our butts and onto our feet or just leave "the frontier" as it is. We don't need to drive everywhere we go. A big part of the use of vehicles like these is that they're used on public lands and their use on private lands is destructive enough.

    FYI some of the best off road or ATV'S out there come from the emergency disaster response field. These include 6×6's duce &1/2's and modified 4×4 vehicles. They are utilterian by nature and would out pace pretty much every vehicle on this list. Their also alot cheaper as well as having the added bonus of better gas mileage and durability. Companies such as Banks Hennessy GM Ford and CHRYSLER via their Dodge brand Toyota and Nissan make them. Aswell as several others if your in the market for such a vehicle but don't want to put up a hundred grand or more look in to the emergency vehicle divisions and be ready to be amazed at what is available for your off road or ATV pleasure at a fraction of the cost of the vehicles on this list.

    • @jericho1-4
      @jericho1-4 5 лет назад +2

      @@reacher6874 if so I would concentrate on those that respond to natural/ man made disasters. I currently work in this field and our fleet of vehicles are very specific to the disasters we respond to and their location globally. We use everything from small to medium size pick-ups SUV's and minivans for some European urban environments do to their smaller streets in some areas to full size pick-ups SUV's 6×6s Topkicks or international gnx's for equipment relocation and support for SAR and infrastructure support/ medical aide in main thoroughfares and extended wildfire/earthquake/adverse weather responses. It's much the same with almost every other company or government agency that responds.

    An all terrain vehicle should be able to climb the natural angle of repose or cross a ravine with berry bushes or sage brush. It should also be able to crawl through willows, tamarack or young trees to cross a shallow creek that may have a beaver dam filled with silt.
    A good test is to drive into a gravel plant and with the permission of the owner, climb the pile of 3/4 minus (the natural angle of repose) Mobility and tractability is all about support and engagement. Iguana Technology since 1991 has the answers.
