Nice to see an unbiased video with somebody talking sensibly about barrel length . I think I’ll buy and AYA 25 side lock They are gorgeous gun before The fashion for longer barrels changes
I watched a chap with a XXV 20bore knocking down high birds on a shoot where some declared you need 34g 12 bore no4 shot here. These bangsticks work fine. Quickly on, and through high fast birds.
I'm tall, too, and prefer 26-28". My pheasants are usually dead by the time friends' shoulder their cannons. And, if you're actually going to be carrying a gun in the field all day, as opposed to standing/sitting in one spot and waiting, the weight of a gun matters. Smaller gauges, shorter barrels are the answer. If you don't shoot well with such guns, the solution is simple: Learn to shoot better.
A video comparing boxlock to sidelock would be fantastic! There's not much on RUclips on the subject... Advantages and disadvantages of each design and some history would be awesome. Cheers!!!
I purchased a beautiful side lock example from a very good friend who coincidentally was at one time a friend of the King brothers who imported them. The wood was exquisite, metal finish first class, I had it fitted to me, I loved it, my perfect quail gun. Alas, just as you said it handled “stabby” every shot at quail was 2 shots. I reluctantly let it go for a good profit. I now shoot my Australian Stubble quail with a rebuilt 1893 Stephen Grant side lock of 6 pounds 8 oz with 29 barrels fitted to me, superb! Our Stubble quail are much faster than Bobwhite and European quail ( I have experienced both wild in their natural habitat) . AyA are beautiful guns but any 25 is for myself just too quick.
I know this was awhile ago, but it would be great to see you and perhaps Simon and/or David Florent shooting one and talking about Robert Churchills shooting ideas and method. I understand his promotion of the XXV provoked a lot of heated debate "back in the day".
I need some help. I have an AYA sxs shotgun, 28" barrels 12 gauge, dated between 1949 and 1953. It doesn't look like any other AYA I have ever seen, or any pictures online, but the ONLY bit of information I've been able to find, is that it MAY be a Model 300. It has what appears to be a seagull engraved on the receiver. Anyone know anything about this?
Have one, its NOT easy to learn to shoot because of the short barrel. When being used to an o/u . After about 700 shots I got the hang of it. It is fast, it is easy to handle when in a forrest and if youre handling a dog. Maybe its me but I still need one or two shooting lessons to be consistent.
Mario's. Google Spanish shotgun serial numbers From that 16 is the AYA makers code. Good makers the name will be on the gun and probably stamped on the barrel flats 03 is the Spanish code letters for shotgun 0262 is the serial number 95 is the year of manufacture So if the reference sites are correct you have an AYA shotgun, serial number 0262 built in 1995.
I should think that guns had some hammer,so to speak !..With a very poor piece of timber to match .Sounds like that could be a very cheap gun for someone ???.

Unbelievable how many times he opens and closes it.

I been looking for a single shot with ejectors and stumbled across an AYA singleshot 12 gauge? Thoughts on this gun?
The cosmos?
The Gun Shop I believe so, it’s really hard to find any info on this single shot lol
Gun shop what are your thoughts on an AYA 12 bore Coral?
Lovely guns, although an acquired taste i have been told!
I had one as my first over/under. Decent gun!
are these comparable to a basque boxlock SXS ?
You might find the AYA is a slightly better built gun, bu very similar
GWLAD AYA is basque, from Eibar town.
