I was that teenager in the 70's drooling at the rack of AYA's at my local gun shop. Today in my cabinet i have an early 1968 12ga model 25 BL weighing in at under 6 lb. It's a joy to shoot and puts the biggest smile on my face 😊
I know that the market is completely different here in the US, but I bought a lightly used #2 last year, and it has been an absolute blast to shoot. I usually go for big heavy clay guns. The AYA has been a happy departure from a modern "performance" mindset. I've really grown to love it.
Congratulations Matt on your first year in business. I have been a great fan of yours through all of your video life and see you as the best objective reviewer in the business. Thanks also for helping me out with shotgun selections. My son has an AYA No 2 that we gave hime for his 21st Birthday and he loves shooting with it in the game season.
Thank you for your comments and kind words. It has been a pleasure assisting with your shotgun selections, just need to find a rabbit in the paddock! Kind regards, Matthew
Hi Matt,I own an AYA,but not a number2.I have an AYA no 3 magnum bought new in 1971 for £65,it is bored 1/4 and 1/2,has 30 inch barrels and weighs 6 pounds 14 ounces and I am seriously considering using it for game shooting again as it just feels right and I used to shoot pretty well with it years ago .Fabulous channel Matt, keep up the good work!
Thank you for your comment and kind words. Great information too thank you for sharing. I am pleased that you have enjoyed the content. Kind regards, Matthew
Had one ...stock was a little plain...but , everything about it felt just right....remember standing it in the corner , and looking at it ...beautiful gun
Score one for the UK... The AyA box locks like the Matador and No.4 were pretty popular in the US for many years. Several different companies sold AyA's under their house brand name. They were relatively cheap and very reliable. The sidelocks, (i.e., No. 1, No. 2, No. 53) were and are still sold in the US to connoisseurs who are willing to pay the hefty price. A used box lock is a relatively cheap way to get into the sxs market here. The sidelocks have held their value VERY well as compared to the UK leaving a lot of perspective buyers to give up the dream of ownership. Many people in the US have resorted to importing the sidelocks from the UK since they can be attained so cheaply. My fondest memory of AyA was a friend's 20-gauge XXV sidelock choked C/IC. It was the perfect gentleman's quail gun! Congrats on making it to your 1st year anniversary and may you reach many more!
I have recently added a 28” 12g #2 hand detachable 1968 to my collection . A beautiful piece of engineering . One owner from new, I bought it from a dealer and 1000 cartridges with change from £1k 😁. It shoots better than I ever will be able to , but I can dream can’t I ?
where ever has that year gone, seems like half that, but I guess you are happy that year is behind you, I am sure your well deserved success will continue, so onwards and upwards for Eastfield, and happy first anniversary
You can’t help but love a AYA I don’t own one any more but I’m on the look out for another they where very popular where I grew up in Yorkshire. If you look at the prices of them in the 80s they where cheap by comparison today but there still good value for what your getting and very desirable still there’s a lot of enjoyment to be had with shooting a side by side it’s unlike anything else.
Thank you for your comment. These guns are simply unbeatable if you want to enjoy the experience of shooting a side by side for sensible money. Kind regards, Matthew
Good honest review, AYA have done a good job with the No.2. I just don't like their "house" engraving looks cheap, I would prefer a plain looking style like S05, MX8 or A1. Good to see a nice stock(on one side) on a Spanish gun, no doubt the steel quality is up to standard. I have handled a AYA 56 with Boss engraving, semi beaver tail & half pistol grip, very nice.
Thank you for your comment. I am pleased that you enjoyed the video. I understand what you are saying about the standard no 2 engraving and have actually seen a number of other Spanish sidelocks over the years that in my opinion have nicer scrolling. Kind regards, Matthew
Why would most traditional SXS potentially have an issue with steel shot? Standard steel cartridges can be used in any gun that is nitro proofed. It is only high pressure steel cartridges that will be an issue and who would be using heavy wildfowling cartridges through a light SXS? I really do not understand why this steel shot narrative is so unnecessarily negative. Traditional guns have a good future after steel!
Thank you for your comment. I do not disagree with your thoughts on steel shot through traditional side by sides. I think that it is very much perceived that the condition of old English guns and their barrels maybe an issue. Also I think that manufacturers are largely pushing HP steel shot proofed products. Just my opinion. Kind regards, Matthew
@@eastfieldgunroom Thanks for your reply. I appreciate it. I would suggest that the current perceptions around steel shot is the very thing that should be challenged. Any nitro proofed gun with appropriate chokes can use standard steel. That should be the message. I agree that gun manufacturers pushing HP steel compliance as a key feature is adding to the confusion. We seem to have got our ourself into a position of general misunderstanding and we should all do what we can to clarify the issue.

Matt I’ve shot a Aya no2 but never owned one I honestly think this is one of the best guns ever made thanks from Ireland
Wish I’d pulled the hammer on a Garbi two decades ago when cost of living and salary were a little more inline with each other 👍🏼

Muy fácinantes armas amigos saludos belleza 🇪🇨🇪🇨🇪🇨
Can’t beat the elegance of a quality sxs and that is one. Wouldn’t it be nice to stand at your peg on the first drive and take that out of your slip.
Thank you for your comment, I completely agree Phil. Kind regards, Matthew
Baikal mp 27m
Hi Matthew, i had a look at your website and this gun does not seem to be on it. Can you please tell me how much this gun costs.

What on earth is your left hand doing with the fore end?
Thank you for your comment. Not quite sure what you mean. I believe it is just the way I am presenting the gun for the camera. Kind regards, Matthew
