Super Metroid - Part 11: Confronting Ridley in Lower Norfair

- This long video focuses on me going through even more of Norfair. Thanks to the Power Bomb I'm able to go further, and even enter into its lower region where the music changes.
While the Gravity Suit will protect Samus from lava, it can't protect her from the acid that appears here. It's too corrosive for the suit.
There's a miniboss here which happens to be another living Chozo statue, this time it's gold, and it's much more aggressive than the one I fought very early in the game.
Beat it, and you be able to get into the room that contains the last major item Samus can find: Screw Attack.
The Screw Attack powers up Samus' Spin Jump, so that she's constantly a spinning ball of doom towards enemies. This can kill the lot of them, and even break through blocks that are set up for such a case. This combined with the Space Jump and make Samus ALMOST completely untouchable in the air.
Later on, you have to fight two grayish Space Pirates. You can only hurt them when they turn yellow from using an aerial attack. Pick up on that, and you'll take them out in no time.
Later on you'll get to the boss, the last main boss, and the leader of the Space Pirates: Ridley.
This time, you are able to properly beat him. Just don't get grabbed and watch out for his tail. He has a lot more health than the other bosses.
When he's about to die, he'll grab Samus one more time, before he dies from his own explosion. According the Metroid, Metroid II, and the whole Metroid Prime Trilogy, Ridley's defeat in Super Metroid is his final REAL death. Later games (meaning Other M & Fusion), will have Ridley return as a clone.
You can then go into the room he was guarding. You can find a hidden Energy Tank in here, but you'll first notice that the baby Metroid used to be in here. It broke free of its jar. You can't think about it too much, yet, so now I leave Norfair on a course to find that massive statue of the 4 main bosses.
I just wanted to know how to defeat those two really hard space pirates that you can only attack when flashing yellow
George Brady I
I thought I was the only one lol, I felt so stupid when I saw this guy blasting them like it was nothing
I still don’t know how i managed to kill em
I never learned this until after I started speedrunning the game and watched a tutorial -- if you're on or over one of those sets of three blocks in the middle of the room, one of them will turn yellow and attack you.
I remember as a kid, and even in my early speedruns, I would just spinjump around the room until I got them to "randomly" go yellow and attack. Turns out there's a pattern to it!
yeah me too! lol
i remember playing this with my best friend watching and when we heard that lower norfair music we both looked at each other like OMG this is it we have officially entered HELL. i was literally scared to death sweaty palms and all...
lol yep I’m doing that at 40!
That exact same situation happened to me and my boyfriend, exceptional game!
8:04 The X-Ray visor doesn't show the secret behind that green dude. That's stupid.
Yeah the game disguises obstacles as a part of the background therefore making it seem like its an obstacle but you can actually just walk through. Fucking bullshit.
This is his first time playing. Be courteous please
@@MrBuinhubinh I wasn't insulting the player, I was complaining about the game's mechanics.
@@elephant35e oh ok. Your sentence can cause a lot of misunderstanding tho
@@MrBuinhubinh No it does not. That sentence is pretty clear
it's nice to watch normal non Gods-named-Zoast play this game once in a while
I loved how you even played the part and kneeled by the broken vial as if to express “ I failed my duty to protect the baby.”
Ridley is tough. Even with all the upgrades. It's amazing that some players are so skilled they can fight Ridley as the first boss. Keep in mind that without the suit, you're constantly losing health due to the heat
I found him to be easy. Just spam missiles at him nonstop. Draygon was harder though.
@@scottvelez3154 dragon has less health and there are two ways in which you can kill her easily. One is a glitch, the "blue glow" ( I forget the official name) the second one is death via electrocution
@@scottvelez3154 also you don't need a protective suit to fight draygon. You do when fighting Ridley
Playing this in 2022 for first time and still having a blast. Some stuff are honestly "hard to discover" without the internet especially regarding some moves, and what you can do with some tools. Props to those that finished it in those days ! Game is still amazing most likely one of the few games that have aged so WELL. Atmosphere and soundtrack is topnotch too. Whoever thinks that other metroid titles are better, guess again !
PS: Lower norfair is pretty dope! Went to the right first and got stuck as I can't destroy walls while flying yet it seems. xD Dam.n the way back is not easy. lol.
Ridley's Lair is Level 8 🏙️ of Super Metroid (SNES) (1994). 💚
First time taking that elevator down to Ridleys Lair and hearing the music kick in, you just know shit is getting real
Something about norfair on the original metroid will always be more intimidating
3:13 for start of lower norfair
3:05 baby! It's getting serious now!
This game CANNOT be topped in terms of the universe of Metroid. It's almost perfect.
Do you need to go back through the lava after defeating Ridley? Or is there another way to progress?
I'm here to find that out lol. There probably is, but I didn't find it
No you don't. The scope just doesn't show the shortcut. Basically just take the right door and go to the top of that room and you'll be able to walk through the left side even though your scope doesn't show it.
Easily one of my favorite parts of the game. Cheers on a great video, and I just subbed to your channel.
@@Carls493 Anytime, have a great day!
12:15 i was stuck with those bastards for half an hour
I had terrible dreams i played this so much, it took a while to finish...best game ever...
Where do you get that special jump?
Just google space jump/spring jump/screw attack location or just search in youtube
In Maridia I think
Yeah, you get it from Maridia after that weird boss fight
Thank you so much! I was struggling with that Chozo Statue thing. I was going insane.
Dude I can't figure out how to lower the lava. When I go into morph ball Samus keeps spinning and doesn't sit still like what happens here
@@phenoz7449 if I understand you correctly...you don't lower the lava to get into Ridley's Lair...you have to Screw Attack up to the entrance through the lava.
@@sethmmendez maybe were talking about something different. When I first go down to Lower norfair I go left. Then in the next room I jumped through the lava and used the bomb to reveal a statue. Then apparently you just go into a morph ball in his hand and samus will stop spinning and it lowers the lava. But my Samus keeps spinning
3:45 for reference
@@phenoz7449 oh, I get where you are now...yeah, I'm not sure what to do. I just jump in it's hands and double tap down to go into morph ball and after leaving it alone for a second or two it automatically activates. I've never had issues with Samus spinning while in that position.
Metroid is so epic.
Thanks, I was stuck in lower Norfair with low health, and no chance of killing Ridley!!
The lower part of Norfair is the best part of this game.
That music gives off that certain Conan vibe!
ruclips.net/video/pdNbBL4PnU4/видео.html
Try 1970s hard rock
How get magic pancakes?
The coolest part was obliterating the space pirates with the screw attack
4:43 HYPER! (Street fighter refrence)...
Can someone explain me why screw attack wont work in some rooms and others it works perfectly fine? I'm playing on emulator and i finished the game but this always bothered me.
I dont remember were aré that statue wich map??? Brainstar??
Man how in the world do you access to this area? Have finished to whole norfair map, have the lava suit, but just dont know how to enter this dragons head/mouth
You enter the dragons mouth by going into the lava.
You’ll need the purple suit and the space jump to be able to go into the lava and space jump you’re way to the top.
WTF? Was ist das mit der blauen Kugel? Nie gesehen oder davon gehört ..... ich bin 38 und möchte gerne vor mein Tot das Rätsel gelöst haben. BITTE
Saved me there, snes mini 2022 :)
4:50 this guy scares me
2:34 how do I do this jump?? Is it like a wall jump without the wall??
That's the space jump, you get it in maridia
it's the gravity suit meant to stop lava damage?
yes only for this game, in metroid fusion this is another suit that immune to lava and acid.
that's not my point... I meant if it's meant to stop lava damage then wtf is going on in lower norfair
@@GamingWithCalvin1 I know what you mean, This game has no logic about the physics. The only thing to remember is there is a type of lava that the suit can handle (maybe less hot)
it's not the physics, it's the lore. Heck, super metroid's water physics are unusually acurate
8:54 i felt really stupid for not trying that
How did u morph ball jump
Spring ball upgrade
3:41 my Samus stays rolling
Me too did you ever figure this out
How do you get to that area where you can see the Ridley entrance before having the Gravity Suit?
Same room but there is a little tunnel you can cross with the morph ball resulting with a dead end while seeing a bit of Ridley's statue lair
How did you jump while rolling in 9:29?
spring ball
@@haivernicolasaguileragomez7801 I figured it out. Thanks!
i'm prettuy sure chozos are good so why is one attacking you
Kamen rider guy that's a torizo
Chozo ghosts attack you in Prime just because of defending the territory from ANYTHING. Chozos are actually extinct i think. So all thats left are just the ancient ghosts who are objectively attacking everything or they just dont know who you are since im pretty sure samus isnt ancient. So these are not chozos. Just bootleg chozos. Torizos i guess.
Torizos are fake hostile chozo statues. It was a torizo
My boy Ridley
Thanks I would’ve been stuck there 😂
what beam are you using?
kubchu that’s a Plasma & Ice Beam
@@Thorongil1984 and spazer
All of them. Wave also. Except for spazer actually. Spazer makes 3 lasers and getting plasma equips spazer because the damage is ridiculous otherwise.
wait, no u HAD to hurt yourself to get out? thats not the legit way.
Its not! You can just go right and theres a way out there and a shortcut out of inner norfair
That’s norfair!!
@@darkgenie3167 Lmao
norfair more like no fair yah kno what I mean
Massa
muito ruim esse cara
Uai
Ele provavelmente já jogo
Então sou obrigado a concordar
Eu nn jogo a um tempo
Mas ate eu sou melhor
This boss fight is drawn out and boring
