Love your owl! Following your creative works
Wishing you the best.
David
Great project Martin. For those of us new to wood turning, it is somewhat encouraging to see an experienced turner suffer a small 'miss turn'.
Hi Phil. Thanks. We're all only human and things sometimes pop-off - the trick is to find a way to fix it, or hide it without feeling the need to bin it as a failure.
Beautiful work Martin, you will be making owls till you're sick of the sight of them!👍👍👍👍👍👍
Hi Alan. I do have a couple more ideas to play with for them, yeah. They are so much fun!
Wonderful project and outstanding craftsmanship. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Brock. Thank you, and thanks for watching. :-)
SUPERB brace of owls...nicely done Sir
Adorable! Love that you hid the “oops” just like it was meant to be made that way. Love your videos, they’re make me want to get to the workshop more. Patti
Hi Patti. Thank you. I was hoping the disguise would work. So long as no-one notices, it doesn't matter. Lol.
Now....get into your workshop and make something! ;-)
bravo bella idea
These made me smile! Thanks for sharing how to do them!
Hi Kat. Thank you. It's a pleasure to be able to share workshop creations, and I'm pleased you enjoy them. :-)
They absolutely brilliant 👍 Thankyou for sharing
Thanks, Christopher. Please you enjoyed it.
Love it! More toys I must add to my shopping list! Thanks Martin.
Hi Maggie. Thanks for watching. You can turn the product between centres and with a donut chuck if you want to have a go without a jig.
Nice to see a project video again, nice cute Owl’s.
Hi Phil. I know the feeling! Lol. Glad you like the owl. Thank you.
SO CUTE!!!! OK bowls and platters are coloured beautifully but its good to have some fun too
Tremendous turn, Martin.
Thanks for showing.
You're welcome, Lee. Thank you for watching.
Another awesome piece! Thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching, Marky.
Martin what a great fun project
Hi Nigel. Thank you. Can't wait to do some more. Hopefully will get some done before Christmas.
Love the concept of the stippling to mask the oops moment!... and it's great that the owls are not the same 👍
Great wee project, very appealing.should be an owling success : )
Hi there Scotty! Man thanks for watching. Loved this little owl. Can't wait to make some more.
I hope you and your family have a great new year. :-)
Martin
I love this functional decorative piece of art. Now you don't have to explain your mood, having this nice emoji.
For my liking the second one is the better one. Bigger eyes and the little extra from the texturing.
Greetings from Good Old Germany
Peter
Hi Peter. Thanks for watching again. Good to hear from you. He is a bit like an emoji, yeah. Cute little thing.
So cute! I held off watching this one for a while but I'm tickled that I did finally watch. Cool jig for the sphere!
Really enjoyed watching this Martin. The owl is so cute and I think the feathering improved it. Excellent!
Hi Pamela. Thank you. His hair-do does make him look pretty cool. :-)
Thanks Martin Beautiful !!!!!!
Thank you, Anthony.
Cracking project Martin...👍👍👍👍
Thank you very much. :-)
Great video Martin! 😁 I just love those little owls, they are so darling.
Hello! Thanks, Valarie. They are extremely cute. Love turning these. Will be replying to your previous comment shortly. Got behind again!
Really cute! Nicely done.
Thank you for watching, Cammie.
Absolutely fantastic Martin! Beautifully turned and presented, I will keep my eyes out for teddy eyes, and make a few for the household. Thank you for sharing!
Yuval
Hi Yuval. Thank you! Pleased you enjoyed it....will look forward to seeing yours. Will it be an emerging owl? I found loads of teddy eyes on eBay - and also, check out eyes used for Taxidermy. Very cool. Expensive, but cool!
The great yuval!
Hello. I just love this owl. The prosess to make them include so many different tasks and the look of the owl after is so nice. Best wishes from Jan in Norway
Hi Jan. Thank you. A lot of fun to turn, and a few processes, yeah. :-) Glad you enjoyed the video.
Nice owl, Martin. Great video and demo of the jig too!
Hi Stewart. Thanks for watching. Glad you enjoyed it.
Martin, those owls sure are cute little critters, I think that the larger eyes look much better then the smaller ones do.
Very cool!
Love them both Martin. Excellent video mate.
Cheers
Mike
It. Is.So. CUTE :-)
Hi again, Chris. Thank you! So pleased you like him.
Beautiful outcome Martin. I prefer the second one’s beak, a little more in proportion....we all learn after the first and adapt when things goes “slightly” accidentally wrong....well done my friend. Great job 👍🏼😊
Cheers, Mark. I prefer the first 'head', but the second eyes and beak. Certainly makes them both individuals.
M. Saban Smith Woodturning I agree with them being unique, I too like the first head but...there are plenty of different owls to represent 😉👍🏼
Really Nice Job Martin and a great looking piece of kit that sphere cutter is!
I like the second better because of the texture of the feathers in that
Thank you, Charles.
Interesting work! I liked the idea Martin!
Thank you Aleksey.
Ótimo trabalho!👍
Obrigado por assistir e curtir o vídeo.
Nice job on the save after the flight of the owl
Hi Erik. Thanks for watching. I'm rather pleased with the save of the head, yeah....and the jig is a super piece of kit. Very pleased with the purchase.
Nice one Love it. Ron in Chesterfield
Now that was smart :-)
Cheers, Ed. :-)
I really appreciate you translating metric to imperial. Us American old farts can only relate a mm to a kind of candy
Excellent !!! Bigger Eyes look better... FYI: Taxidermy supplier also has eyes..
Thanks, Garry. I did get some Golden Eagle eyes from a taxidermist site but edited out that bit. Quite expensive to buy them, but they will look fabulous on a more 'angry' looking owl.
Nice video, Martin.
The owl looks very nice.
If the "quirks" could have let, then the owl would have had an accident. :-D
Hi Gunter,
Thank you very much. So pleased you like him.
Hi Martin - Another fantastic owl. In fact I think I prefer this one. I just need to work out how to have a go at making one without having a vacuum chuck :-(
Cheers
Andrew
Hi Andrew. Thanks for watching. You can use a donut chuck instead of a vacuum chuck. The instructions from Paul detail both methods.
Martin does your air chuck sound like it leaks air from the generator when it’s on great project jig on the want list 😍
Hi Gary. It does yes, which is perfectly normal according to the manufacturers instructions. It's the air coming from the compressor rather than the vacuum forming 'bits'. Thanks for your concern though.
Great project, Martin. I love doing birds on the lathe. I have seen these before but missed your video when it came out.
Hey Martin!!! Great work as usual!!
I live in an apartment in NYC and have no woodworking skills or equipment. I just love the process and outcomes of woodworking.
Will you be offering theses owls for purchase? They are quite good.
Thanks for all the entertainment.
hi you could have made the base owl body shaped and had a sculpture with a moveable head .
Thanks for watching. I could have, yes. But didn't go the whole hog as some of the attention would have been detracted from the head (which does move on his stand). Plus, the time I had turn it wasn't enough to do s full-on body, too.
Hi martin very nice you could say you spotted an owl in the woods
John s /manchester
Lol. Thanks, John. Got plenty more spindles I can play with to make a proper Parliament of Owls.
Happy accident I think it looks better than the first one!
I think so too, Alan. He turned out well ('scuse the pun!)
You say that you don't do "Cute". Perhaps you should rethink that...you're so good at it. Fun project, but it takes so many expensive tools that are out of my reach at the moment. Of course you do this for a living and I am just a poor hobbyist. Has anyone done something similar with ordinary turning tools that you know of?
Thanks, Gill. You can do this project with a bowl gouge and turn the sphere between centres as illustrated in the second video linked to at the end of this one, and instead of using a vacuum chuck for the eyes, use a home made donut chuck. Paul's instructions include information on using a donut chuck. In fact, a donut chuck will hold the sphere more solidly than the vacuum chuck!
Thanks!
You're more than welcome, Gil.
A parliament of Owls lol. Are they doable without a vacuum chuck?
Hi Anthony. Yep. Use a donut chuck for the eyes. It will actually hold the the spheres more securely than the vacuum chuck.
Ciao ...bel lavorò...dove posso trovare quel jig?
Love the little owls 🦉 Are you going to be at Makers Central next year?
Martin, off subject but how can I soften my rock hard Hampshire Sheen? Thanks
Absolutely love it. The whole idea. Lil owl beautiful. Would that kit bolt to a Lathe like mine which is not a double rung bed mine is single but big. I run a really old Vicmarc Lathe
+Matt Richardson Thanks, Matt. If you take a look at Paul's website (link in the video description), it has details on the lathes it can be used on. Paul is really helpful, and may be able to assist if you need it.
I will thank you
Really cool and cute project. May I ask how big that roughing gouge is? 1.1/2”? Well done mate, superb. 👍🍺
Hi Dave. It is 1.5"...at least, I'm pretty sure it is. Fabulous tool. Not sure who makes it - I picked it up from a turner who was retiring. Glad you like the owl. Thanks.
That’s a MONSTER! I can’t imagine any vibration with that beast! 🤪
Superb. Enjoyed the vid. Would you mind if I did a few to sell please 😀
Hi Steven. Of course not. Go for it.
Hi martin came across a channel called martins bazaar is this your page also ?
Hi Joshua. Thanks for watching. Martin's Bazaar is my old channel and is no longer added too. I have put the videos into play lists on this channel though, so all the content is available in one place.
Alles Gute,
Martin
