WOW, you guys are amazing. You swapped that engine on a mini-bike far better than Carsandcameras did today, you guys used an impact wrench and they just used hand wrenches. Truly inspiring!

You forgot to mention that this is a much higher compression engine than normal i think like 13 or 14:1 so race gas and a few tweaks would make a crazy race minibike motor.
I have a predator 212 hemi it has the aftermarket air filter kit and aftermarket exhaust a better spark plug and arc billet flywheel the governor is still hooked up it mounted on a doodlebug and my top speed was 47 mph
The puppets on these types of channels push whatever, whenever they are told. They dont want you finding the best bang for the buck. Get a ducar 212, aluminum flywheel rated to 10,000 rpm, adjustable carb jets, reinforced block, more torque...and its a hemi. Predators are for the masses power washers. Be safe
Any chance you wanna throw this on your dyno quick? Was told it made around 7.1hp out of the box or as much as 10. It's What I started with as a building block for a motor since the price was good and flat top piston the jt207 head etc. 24mm carb rod .010 head gasket, super x dyno cam, all the stuff to make it live it has now, honestly it's to much for my buddies dirt oval soon as you stand on it just lights the vision 1 legend chassis rear tires with 12 66 gearing like no ones in the kart lol.

I was thinking that the Tillitson R had the hemi head, maybe not. I think one would be money ahead with the predator converted because of the $150 initial cost savings but I just like to build these small engines. Keep up the good videos but you’ll be careful or you are going to get hurt bad.
I bought a motovox mini bike. Took out the 2.5hp motor, re painted it and thinking im putting in a predator 212. Any suggestions on my first build/mini bike?!

Id like to see the torque rating. In other words, would it be a replacement for a more expensive 420cc on an offroad kart? Would it even be worth taking the govenor off? I doubt it as it would probably only be good for a small difference. I do like the improved air filter and the plastic filter cover. The stock predator filters are garbage and continually get your carb dirty and im not a fan of the k&n styles with sock because when you're in dust and mud they just dont cut it. I was going to take a briggs style box and filter and mod it to fit my 212.
Come to think of it, I have a Manco 3 wheeler with a 212 on it so im pretty sure I am going to replace it with one of these. That solves 2 problems. The other being I wanted to run twin 212's on my kart. I do like the predators. I weigh 250lbs and I have a light kart with live axle, 48 tooth, torque converter and I can get low 40'smph stage 1 with no govenor plus plenty of low end. You can cheat a little with a tc, never be able to run a 48tooth with a clutch a rip uphill from a dead stop with a clutch. With twins should be interesting lol. Of course, like I said it's a light frame also.
It sounds like it's got a nice "Lope" to it. You throw a header with a DG pipe from Amazon and it would sound sweeeeeeeetttt please get a DG exhaust slip on for dirt bikes and test them on these. They sound great on all small engine like this
hello im a big fan. question I have a chinees buggy that I put a predator 670 on it. I put a 40 series torque converter on it.Its not grabbing the way I expected. do I need a larger one or can I upgrade the converter springs?
What do you recommend, getting a 212 predator and working its way up or getting the Tillotson 212r and working it’s way up? What’s cheaper and more convenient for power ?
What I've found is a predator is $100, a performance air filter kit is $40, a header is $40, and a muffler is almost $80. That's $220 for about the same performance as what this engine is claiming. This engine goes on sale for $220. Also, with the predator you have to take it all apart before you can even use it. But, I have not used a tillotson yet, so I am not sure how good they are.
@@dustinshort6207 u can get a filter for 28 from omb, and then build a header for $12 for pipe and u can run a big 1 1/8 in pipe. so for $140 you get the same performance. and this engine is 220 if u pick it up. if u want it shipped good luck last i checked it was 40 to ship to ny

Amazing they got that power number with a stock appearing airbox and stock appearing muffler. So do we really need those expensive addons and open headers afterall??
its all in the head and cam if you want to make any real gains. the stock exhaust on most small engines is still poo poo though haha. it does help make them run better and cooler all around when they are opened up a little as long as the carb is tuned right though.

If you put it up against all the other out of the box 212s, pull all those governors and stick them straight on a dyno, no stage 1, AS it comes....the 212r will poop on the others at a certain point because of A)the cam B)the carb c)compression. The triple "c" is hard to beat....now really run them...only 2 engines will remain in contact but the blue caped avenger would hold on till that last rotation......it is a nice cast flywheel though....🤔
You can't get this engine anymore, if you want my opinion go with the Tillotson 212E Hemi. That motor is powerful and very reliable from what I've heard and I've never heard anyting bad about it yet.

You can get a hemi head 212 for 100 with coupon at harbour freights and 80 for the better stage 1 kit. Add a upgraded idle jet for 4 bucks and a offset timing key for 6 or 8. Best combo I've found without tearing into the engine.
Andrew Boyle in usually like to support RBG. I spent $700 not long ago and used their coupon code and said I was referred by them. I received no response in regard to my post so I used the code DIYGOKARTS and said they referred me. Just did a $350 order this morning.
These really don't look like they make much more power than a slightly modded 212......with all the variables like gearing, transmission type, tire diameter, rider/vehicle weight, it's very difficult to objectively support a claim of 12hp without doing a side by side drag race between 2 identical bikes, geared exactly the same with near identical total weights. I won't believe it makes anywhere near 12hp unless i see it curb stomp a stock 6hp 212 with the same exact bikes, rider weights, and gearing/clutches.
To the oval guys one of them will dyno this engine with a predator for a predator class not the spg predators. Just your predators with a .750 max O.D pipe. Stock airbox. Still dont think it would pass a predator class why because it's not a predator. You might get away with swapping a flywheel cover but if the tec guy catches that it's not a predator block well good luck running the engine lol.
@@Maverick_Van_Traveller horsepower does not necessarily go up in a linear fashion with rpms. Horsepower is determined at a specific rpm.... all engines have an rpm after which power starts dropping off.
@@Maverick_Van_Traveller like brandon said below the rpm doesn't solely determine the hp. If this engine has a better flowing head with a cam profile that allows for that increase in flow to be used only then will it actually make more power. you could in theory setup a stock 212 predator with the governor system from this engine (5800rpm) but I promise it will be way out of its efficiency range for the cam. the head will flow enough air but the cam wont allow it to. it will make slightly more power but it won't have a nice torque curve at all. and if you put a load on it it also will likely drop back down to around 4500-5000. I'll bet thats where a stock predator cam runs out of steam. just my .02

Add a small swingarm pike u did for trike minibike build. That will let u sit back a bit and smthen out the ride.

The bolts holding the muffler guard on were falling out also.

I won't believe it makes anywhere near 12hp unless i see it curb stomp a stock 6hp 212 with the same exact bikes, rider weights, and gearing/clutches.
To the oval guys one of them will dyno this engine with a predator for a predator class not the spg predators. Just your predators with a .750 max O.D pipe. Stock airbox. Still dont think it would pass a predator class why because it's not a predator. You might get away with swapping a flywheel cover but if the tec guy catches that it's not a predator block well good luck running the engine lol.
The extra 2200 (governed) rpm surely helps that figure. Box stock Predator makes that 6.5 hp at 3600. This revs to 5800.
@@Maverick_Van_Traveller horsepower does not necessarily go up in a linear fashion with rpms. Horsepower is determined at a specific rpm.... all engines have an rpm after which power starts dropping off.
@@Maverick_Van_Traveller like brandon said below the rpm doesn't solely determine the hp. If this engine has a better flowing head with a cam profile that allows for that increase in flow to be used only then will it actually make more power. you could in theory setup a stock 212 predator with the governor system from this engine (5800rpm) but I promise it will be way out of its efficiency range for the cam. the head will flow enough air but the cam wont allow it to. it will make slightly more power but it won't have a nice torque curve at all. and if you put a load on it it also will likely drop back down to around 4500-5000. I'll bet thats where a stock predator cam runs out of steam. just my .02
Yeah, if it says 12 HP, it should be 12 HP out of the box and shove a properly geared minibike 70 - 75 MPH...
So is the stock rod and flywheel going to live long term in this motor with the 5800 rpm?
