- More problems on our D-Mac 240SX 2024 rebuild. We have found excessive camshaft wear and also the block is cracked in multiple places so we are going to weld it in house....

Good job, not had to do any aluminium blocks but have done a right few cast iron ones. Tractors and boats mostly and not had any issues. One thing I usually do on cast iron and cast steel welding repairs with good effect is to peen the weld back. Once I started doing that I found I had less chance of a crack reappearing when cooling. Also slowing the cooling process right down with fire blankets or old welding jackets etc.
Thanks 👍 Yes good advice. The peening is a good job for sure by the looks of it but i have no experience doing it
Fixing the issues and coming back stronger than ever 👍👍
That is the plan
Great work, great solution
Looking forward to know the changes and plans for the car
Thanks for another video
Thank you. I dont think anyone could predict what is coming next...
What a mess, hope you find the sleeves it time. I thought that it was to far gone for sleeves with the cylinders already being bored out previously. Nelson Racing sells some might fine engines but you’d have to mortgage the shop for one.
Looking forward to the next video.
Btw Loan Star Drift had a used sprint car, not sure what he did with it. It was pretty old.
We have sleeves order so just waiting on them. Gotta reuse what we have block wise
Really enjoying the videos Darren!
Glad you like them!
That was unfortunate....
Hope it all works out well, that is a lovely motor!
Even if you try to get a used motor/block from sprint car racer in the USA they still go for huge money?
I'm 100% sure you´ve looked for it, but it's something out of my scope so I have no idea.
Love the videos Daren, keep it up!
I dont know where to go for used ones or anything just have to fix it and move on
Well that much be nerve-wracking
wasnt ideal but done now...
@Group-D must be**
I hope it won't crack again. Really sucks that those blocks are so expensive...
With a new cam setup and I assume new exhaust setup, do you think the car will sound a lot different when it's done? I really loved the sound of that car.
Yes the old noise will be gone. Hopefully you enjoyed it while it lasted....
Fluid in the holes? essentially a little hydraulic. You tighten down the head studs and split it
No as the engine ran for 2 years without this prob and was never opened
@@Group-D what compression ratio?
I see the pain in your face but think you should be ok if it was running cracked all along and your getting block decked with the sleeves... cam is crazy nearly looks like cast mark crazy if they put together like that but looks like it 😬
Ya it is certainly better than it was and it ran all year... gonna be stressing it a bit more though this year when finished. I guess we will never know about the cam, shit happens
what filler rod did you use to weld the block?
I used 4043
Does the crack in the block, and welding it not affect the bores at all?
Its possible but the is being fitted with new sleeves and machined so should be fine after
That’s going to crack straight away
I hope not.... Must be better than running with it cracked???
