@AmericanDryBasementSystems can u please tell me if u know what company it is u end up having to come in after?????? We have American water works coming in next month and now I'm worried it may be them???
I’m officially old…I’ve watched way too many videos on basement waterproofing, sump pumps, outdoor drainage systems, etc. due to my basement water issues. Your video was super helpful and informative. Thanks for taking the time to explain.
Just starting to research on truly waterproofing our basement. You can tell thus guy has seen it all and everything he says is backed up by logical explanations of how residential construction is susceptible to flooding. The next step is to find out where this company is and if they are not local, who does it like they do. What an amazing video! 👍👍
this video saved me from making a massive mistake. had a company come out and try to sell me one of these gutter systems. glad i did my research first before signing a contract!
You're addicted to slushies, why you made that mistake 🤔 there's a 30 day slushi rehab near my house in Pennsylvania if you are having trouble finding help. Keep going back, it works if you work it so work it and live. 🙏
I appreciate your very thorough videos, I have a company similar to yours. It is about doing the basement waterproofing right, even if it takes more effort to achieve a totally dry basement. This big franchise companies are about making money and ability to make things very simple to replicate for their franchisee's and neglecting the real process of waterproofing. Foundation cracks must be injected with either polyurethane or epoxy or excavated on the outside with a proper waterproofing membrane.
Thank you sir for such a great educational video on general basement drainage and sadly educating me about the 3 parts to a basement foundation. Knowing that makes me understand everything much better. Thank you again!
I don’t know how those other guys are able to get away with their system. It makes no sense! Your explanation to your system is very logical and undeniably superior. Keep up the quality work! It’s rare these days
Their system is so small and easy to install that it can be done by anyone. So, they are able to pop up dealerships and train quickly throughout the country to sell it. Whoever buys into a dealership becomes an advocate dealer. When combined with saturated advertising they look like the only game in town. Unfortunately, it is too late for homeowners who buy into it because they were unable to find a real waterproofing solution in their area through all the saturated advertisement.
I've learned a lot from this video. I'm going to look for that other one that you made and watch it again. I must have missed something in that other one; but this one is great. Thank you so much for taking the time to teach us. I really am a slow learner but also a perfectionist; which looks like you are, too. Thanks again for your great work and videos.
Just called these guys the other day to look at my settlement cracks that leak water during heavy rains. Seems very knowledgeable. I got a quote from the other guys two years ago and I didn’t like their fix. It seemed like a bandaid.
Yeah, he could do with explaining the basic design and installation process. If you don't know anything about it, it's hard to figure out what's going on.
Is this a BQ system (and you may not want to/be able to say) that was pulled out? I learned a lot from this. Thank you for saving me from wasting thousands on the wrong system!!
This is great, love your videos and work. It seems like a great idea to leave sections of the floor intact to connect to the wall/foundation, but how do you install the waffle board or dimple board in those areas? Don't you need to remove the floor to put the waffle board under it?
Thanks for your great videos. Very informative. I understand your concrete mix to be proprietary, but would you mind sharing what company and product you use for the flow channel drain board? Thank you.
Hello thank you for the video. Is there a different name for these systems what would I ask a company specifically to get the type of drainage system you install?
I don't recollect the company. Quality first installs the same products. These products are used by dealerships in several states. Easy to train, easy to install, and easy to flood any basement. That's what happens when you don't put in the hard work to do it right.
Dear American Dry Basements, thanks for your hard work, and these great videos. I was wondering, it doesn’t appear to me that you are using any kind of soil blocking landscape fabric for your drainage system… my I ask why not? Or if you are, what fabric do you have good experience with. Thanks.
The soil in the northeast United States is typically Spodosols. It is a dense soil. Inside, not outside, the soil perks up clear water with very little slit in most areas. We never use landscaping fabric because fabric are filters that naturally clog, retarding the movement of water. That is one filter you can never change unless you want to jackhammer the floor again.
seems like a really good landscaping job which slopes away from perimeter with thick poly underneath it would keep most water away from basement walls? then just keep a good dehumidifier in place
They already have tons of external drainage, and dehumidifiers eat money by creating very large electric bills. We want to avoid them at all costs. Sometimes you can't. The owners of this house haven't seen a drop of water in their basement since our installation. No dehumidifier is required.
What is the bubble sheet that you put down over the footing and under the new concrete? I can see it allows water to flow under the new concrete, I'm wondering where this can be purchased
Yes. Dust control is vital in our work. We use our exclusive, EPA winner, Enviroboot on the jackhammer to catch cement dust and move it to the Hepa-filtered vac.
I enjoyed your video. I have a couple of cracks in my wall. They want to put in a sump pump but didn’t mention about fixing the crack. Can you explain. It is suppose to be a very good company

Don't use waterproofing paint unless you have a waterproofing system under your floor to keep the hydrostatic pressure down. Use Drylok hydraulic cement to plug leaks in the middle of the wall, stairs or window. It will be temporary until you find out why those leaks are occurring in the first place. If leaks are coming out from between the wall and floor then you will have to consider a waterproofing system to manage the water levels outside your walls.

@@AmericanDryBasementSystems If I have a French drain & dehumidifier could I leave the paint on the walls and just scrub them down? I'm looking to put up some shelving but wanted to take care of the brown spots and efflorescence first.
Can you recommend a company in East Tennessee that knows what they’re doing? We have a 1 year warranty and 3 year in system. We are asking for a refund. Another questions, what’s the best waterproofing system for monolithic foundation?
Excellent video, great info, thanks. As the system is utilized over time, is there an issue with silt (or something?) buildup in the pipes to the point where it won't function any longer? In other words, does the system have to be periodically maintained, and if so, what is the process?
Yes. Corrugated perforated pipe on a pitch is amazing. Self-cleaning because of the corrugation. You see the bigger brother used on highways and farmlands throughout the world. Cleanout tees are a waste of time and more costly to install.

I am trying to figure out not which system would be appropriate for my basement, but why the water started leaking in the first place. I bought a fixer upper two years ago, and the leak first appeared a few times sporadically, and for the last several weeks, it has been leaking constantly in this one corner. It appears that some sort of soft flexible material had been painted on, and it's now torn/old/flexible - I poked it to see what was going on there. Is the problem with a pipe that was installed last year (that leads to the drywall) or is it something else. IDK what to do next. UGH. All I know is that I want to solve this problem!
Unfortunately, this is something that can't be determined online. You have to get a plumber or a waterproofing pro to physically examine the location of the leak.
I would check the gutters and downspouts first. Go outside during a heavy rain and see if your gutters are working properly and the water is being discharged at least 10 feet away

No, sorry. Its hard to recommend without knowing another contractor's operation and having quality control. If I took a guess, sight unseen, and the job goes terribly wrong. I would be blamed. Its up to you to make the right decision, and use our information as guidance. All the best.
@@AmericanDryBasementSystems I totally understand and get what your saying. i am so grateful you wrote with your advice and i am using your knowledge so the contractors cant pull the wool over my eyes. your knowledge is special. thank you.
Thanks for subscribing. Yes, you can paint your basement walls, but make sure you have dampness and water seepage under control. No seepage or dampness... paint away.
He broke that on purpose pulling it out of the wall. No person with any knowledge of plumming or general contracting would pull from the bottom of that pipe upward causing that much pressure. Im sure he isn't an idiot and just did it on purpose.
Companies cannot verify what another company does. We find it impossible to maintain quality and experience in check when spinning off responsibility to new owners.
Is the sump pump basin perforated so that it acts like the pipe itself allowing water in from the ground or is it solid? Would it matter where the sump pump basin is located? Example: Would it be better if it was located in a dryer section of the basement or where you have more water coming in? Thank you.
Is applying drylok to already painted concrete walls somewhat effective. I have high humidity in my house and my basement is getting waterproof with a French drain in two weeks
Is there an easier way getting the paint off? I thought once the French drain was installed that would help lower the humidity levels in the house. I understand applying drylok over already painted walls won’t be as effective but wouldn’t it be better than nothing in controlling humidity
There is no easy way to get paint off. An adequately installed french drain will lower the relative humidity dramatically to between 20 to no more than 40 percent. Over 50 percent will promote bacteria growth. Drylok will not help make humidity lower, and you can paint it over old paint, but it may not last as long.
I feel like you're attacking a product in this video, but the really, the product never worked properly because as you've pointed out, it wasn't even close to being installed properly...in so many areas! So how can you say the product is inferior? What if it was installed properly?
If you have a water problem in the basement and install this gutter-looking system, it only works when the water level is critical. Basically, your floor will be sitting in water. They sell special flooring to combat this defect. This system is inferior in every way.
They are primarily used in casting swimming pools and not designed for reconstruction or repair. The PSI maybe too high and you will find it next to impossible to access any subfloor pipe (sewage).
More dust with saw. Not cost effective for homeowners. We are able to complete work much faster. Finish floor afterwards with paint, self-leveling cement, wood, tile, so on.

Could you recommend a company in southeast Michigan - metro Detroit area that would do this kind of quality work? Thank you.
Sorry we are not familiar with any contractors or companies outside of Connecticut and New York.
@@AmericanDryBasementSystems anyone you’d recommend in NY
Did you ever find someone in Southeastern Michigan? That’s where I am too and need a good company that does it right.
@@alexpeguero38 did you ever find a company in Southeastern Michigan? I’m looking too
@@ScrapGoldAcademy Yes, Tom's Basement Waterproofing, Chesterfield, MI. They addressed the underlying problem and fixed it right, just like these guys. Would highly recommend Tom's.
have any companies you would recommend in Wisconsin
We don't know anyone in Wisconsin.
do you do any work in canada or do you know of a company that does it like your company as you do it the proper way and i truly need your help. thank you so much. have a lovely day
No, sorry. Its hard to recommend without knowing another contractor's operation and having quality control. If I took a guess, sight unseen, and the job goes terribly wrong. I would be blamed. Its up to you to make the right decision, and use our information as guidance. All the best.
@@AmericanDryBasementSystems I totally understand and get what your saying. i am so grateful you wrote with your advice and i am using your knowledge so the contractors cant pull the wool over my eyes. your knowledge is special. thank you.
Can I paint my basement wall? It looks yucky and I want to make it look nice :(
Thanks for subscribing.
How can i find a basement waterproofer like your company ……
Companies cannot verify what another company does. We find it impossible to maintain quality and experience in check when spinning off responsibility to new owners.
What is this method called? Would you advise against a gutter system?
The video speaks for itself.
Where is your company located ??
In Connecticut bordering on Westchester county New York.
Is the sump pump basin perforated so that it acts like the pipe itself allowing water in from the ground or is it solid? Would it matter where the sump pump basin is located? Example: Would it be better if it was located in a dryer section of the basement or where you have more water coming in? Thank you.
Yes. It is perforated. Placement depends on many factors which I can't go into in a RUclips comment. I will consider making a video about it.
@@AmericanDryBasementSystems Thank you
Is applying drylok to already painted concrete walls somewhat effective. I have high humidity in my house and my basement is getting waterproof with a French drain in two weeks
Do not apply Drylok to painted walls. You have to sand off old paint to get full effectiveness.
Wish I wwould ahve watchecd this earlier
Interesting
Do you guys do Willowgrove pa area?
No. But give American Waterproofers Inc a try. Call (717) 938-2272
@@AmericanDryBasementSystems thanks but they don’t service area to
Does Shotcrete or gunniting help?
They are primarily used in casting swimming pools and not designed for reconstruction or repair. The PSI maybe too high and you will find it next to impossible to access any subfloor pipe (sewage).
@@AmericanDryBasementSystems Thanks.
Gets to me how companies dont comply then charge you an ongoing fee!!!
Lack of state enforcing foundation building code.
@@AmericanDryBasementSystems Prolly gettin a few bucks under the table or more lickly that the workload is over the top!
Why don’t you guys cut the concrete?
More dust with saw. Not cost effective for homeowners. We are able to complete work much faster. Finish floor afterwards with paint, self-leveling cement, wood, tile, so on.
I seen these drain system he is removing . I even seen Bob Villa. In this “ Old House put this. Pathetic system in . Wow !
Those are all Connecticut basement systems you are ripping out.
my question is why is so much water getting through a bilco door,,this seems strange my door lets no water in why does that one?
