DIY Natural Spider Repellent

- This DIY for a Natural Spider Repellent with Peppermint oil, is one that I have been using for a couple of years now and it works really well. I use this inside around floorboards, doors and windows and outside on things like my patio furniture to keep spiders away.
***I wanted to add that I found out Peppermint oil is not good for dogs or cats. I have found out so many essential oils aren't, unfortunately. I spray mine mainly outside now because of that (my dogs are inside dogs) or in places in the house the dogs don't go.
Peppermint oil I use: amzn.to/3cRR23X

‼‼I wanted to share that I found out Peppermint oil is not good for dogs or cats. I have found out so many essential oils aren't, unfortunately. I spray mine mainly outside now because of that (my dogs are inside dogs) or in places in the house the dogs don't go.
Alicia Lynn uses
1 1/2 cup water
1/2 cup distilled white vinegar
1/2 teasspoon peppermint oil
shake spray 1x weekly
(others citrus lavendar cinnamon or make combo oil u prefer)
😊
Wow, you backyard is amazing. We also dislike spiders quite a bit and we're starting to see more of them. Had no idea that they hate vinegar and oil. This is great, Alicia!
Thanks, I enjoy hanging out on that back deck a lot more with less spiders! 😄 This stuff really does help keep them away and I love that it's natural. Thanks for watching! 😊
And it's also good to spray around and under your car, to help keep squirrels, groundhogs and other critters from getting up under the hood and chewing up "eco-friendly" wiring insulation, radiator hoses and other "rubber" stuff.
This is so good to know. I started using water and peppermint oil but I find spiders still go on my outdoor furniture and even on the door! I will try it with vinegar and it might make a difference. My husband doesn’t let me kill the spiders so I need to find a natural ways to keep them away from my house. So thank you for the tip and I will try this soon!
I hope the vinegar makes a difference for you! This mixture seems to keep most of the spiders away for me.
awh he has a good heart but its important to also be safe. i hope it works.
Wow! That is a great alternative to regular pesticide! Great idea! Your back yard is beautiful too!💗 Love it!🌸
I love that this is natural and still works to keep spiders away! And thanks, we enjoy the back yard, it's very peaceful! Thanks so much for watching!
Love that it’s natural! Since it’s getting warmer , I’ve notice more spiders inside our house! Deff will be trying this! I don’t like hiring pest control lol
I like that it is natural too because even though the pesticide that I use outside the perimeter of the house says it's safe for indoor use, I don't really believe that! And yeah, nobody wants to hire pest control, that's way too spendy! Lol This stuff really does keep them away with consistent use. Thanks so much for watching and have a great Monday!
thank you. I need to spray this on my car. it seems to be a magnet for what's on the roof for them.
No problem, I hope it helps!
It works great! I used cinnamon oil intead and sprayed on the spider. Great results! Thanks for sharing ❤️
Glad it worked well for you! Thanks for watching!
@@AliciaLynnYT does apple cider vinegar work also?
@@lovememes6717 it should work fine!
Good morning!! Thanks for sharing this video!! I *hate* spiders, and they do get all over our outside furniture so quickly, to the point that every time I go out there I check around the chairs and table before I sit down! I'm seriously going to try this, I'll make some up tomorrow and spray around the patio! Have a great day!!
Hi! You sound just like me because I always check the furniture outside before sitting down! This has really helped to keep them off of the patio furniture so I can be a little less paranoid when I sit out on the deck or front porch now. They used to always be on it and I didn't even enjoy sitting outside. I hope you do try it and I hope it works as well for you as it has for us! Just remember to do it about once a week or so and it should seriously help. Thanks for watching and have a great day yourself!😊
Thank you so much. I have much more peace of mind now. I am happy to have this recipe and just applied ❤
Did it work?
I am terrified of spiders too!! Great idea, and so easy!! ❤️
I hate them with a passion! This stuff does help and it is super easy. Thanks for watching, Jenny!💜
I have a weird fear of spiders. They never use to bother me but since having my son I started having this same dream where a spider was hanging over my bed. Super weird but now I really hate spiders!! Thanks for sharing 😊
Spiders have always bothered me! That is interesting that you have a spider dream after having your son and that has made you hate them. I have my fair share of spider nightmares so I understand that! Thanks for watching!
Supposedly spiders in a dream mean you have an over bearing mother because I search it when I kept having spider dreams so is your mother over bearing? I know alot of women after having their baby their mothers try to tell them how to care for the baby more than just giving advice.
I hate to tell you this but they say we swallow 4.1 spiders per year. Known fact…🤢
I’m here because even though I never had a problem with spiders, they have been showing up in my house lately (always in the morning after my shower) and I have a young son now.
Big, hairy fast ones too and it’s to the point where the amount is getting out of hand.
They have been showing up in the back porch specifically and I believe they are coming in from under my door (hopefully).
I started keeping the porch light on since last night because apparently they won’t go where the light is, but I also want to try this mixture out as well
I hope this helps! I personally keep my porch light and outdoor lights off because I have always heard the opposite about keeping lights on at night. I heard the light attracts spiders because it attracts insects that spiders prey on.
I only have rice vinegar on hand atm, but I'm still going to try it out before I go out to get some white vinegar because I just moved into my apartment, and to my horror, I've now encountered and vacuumed way too many spiders to count. My arachnophobia is making me go crazy, and I am desperate for anything that works.
We’ll have to try this! Two questions for you: 1) how often do you spray? 2) is it safe for pets?
I spray about once a week outside and no, peppermint oil is not good for dogs or cats. I have found out so many essential oils aren't, unfortunately. I spray mine mainly outside now because of that (my dogs are inside dogs) or in places in the house the dogs don't go. My dogs hate the smell and steer clear of it but better safe than sorry!
I think the vinegar is toxic to cats. Idk tho
Hi Alicia! I hate, no I’m petrified of spiders. I do love the idea of a natural spray for inside the home. When I clicked on your video I was praying, PRAYING that you wouldn’t demonstrate on a live spider 😖😣! Thanks for sharing! ~Andrea 😁
Yeah, there is no way I'd even get close enough to a spider to spray it! 😬 I am way too scared!😄 I usually send my Hubby after them! Thanks for watching, Andrea!
They hate eucalyptus!I have arachnophobia😬thanks for the tips I'm out of eucalyptus and I'm going to go with your method right now!!!
I will have to try the eucalyptus, thanks!
@@AliciaLynnYT I will also try this method.. if you don't mind me asking I'm such an introvert city girl.. grew up in Los Angeles so I'm just curious as to where you reside because your background is sooooo satisfying OMGGGG I'd loveeeee to live somewhere in nature like that😍😍😍
They also hate lavender, I have a lot of lavender plants in my backyard 😅.
You couldn't have made this at a better time! We starting to get a bunch of black widows inside the house. I hate using strong pesticides inside the house because of my little ones. I'm going be using this from now on! Tfs!
I hear you on not liking to use pesticides in the house. I don't want my kids or dog exposed to it. I don't want spiders in the house either, especially poisonous ones like black widows! I just spray this stuff all over the floorboards, doors and windows and anywhere spiders like to hang out or may come in the house and it seems to have helped to keep them away! Thanks so much for watching!💜
Hate spiders too.. enjoy watching going to try this mixture
I hate the bitey spiders, but love my Orb Weavers, they help keep down flies, gnats and other bug populations.
Spiders do definitely have a positive purpose. I tend to leave them alone when they aren't on things like my patio furniture.
Hi😊 Thank you for the tips my beautiful friend.👍♥️
I need this had no clue they hated vinegar. Love that fact I always have both. I am going to start cleaning with vinegar again too.
Wow! This looks super simple. It sounds like it's pretty effective too! Awesome! Thanks for sharing!
It is pretty effective as far as I can tell! And really easy to make! Thanks as always for watching and your continued support!😊
Good Morning:) This was super helpful:):) I am not afraid of spiders but do not want them around if I can help it:):) Its amazing what Vinegar can do!! You have a lovely view from the patio:) Thanks for sharing!!
Vinegar is great for so many things! And I wish I wasn't so afraid of spiders because it would make my life easier! lol Thanks, I enjoy my patio, especially when there are less spiders out there! Thanks so much for watching and have a great day!
Sprayer tops also fit isopropyl alcohol and hydrogen peroxide bottles. And, of course, Dr. Pepper bottles, LOL!
I’ve tried this but they are still every where on my pier
Girl! Thanks for sharing!! I freaking hate mosquitos and we get a bunch in Texas specially in the summer
Thank you very much for sharing!! Just wondering may I use peppermint essential oil instead? Thank you!❤
Yes, that is what I used! Thanks for watching!
Thanks Alicia, I really needed this video. 🙏 It seems like the spiders around my house have had a population boom. 🕷🕸I’m going to give this spray a try, but Where can we get the peppermint or citrus oil?
I just got my peppermint on Amazon but you can find it a lot of different places. Amazon has about every type of oil you could want. I use the green health brand and like it a lot for this! I got the 16 oz size and have been using it almost 2 years and still have a ton left. Thanks so much for watching, Howard and have a beautiful day!
AliciaLynn thanks 🙏
Did this work for you?... because I'm having the same issue.
Awesome thanks for sharing we have been getting lots of spider inside at the moment! 😉
I have been seeing a lot since its warmed up too and figured it was time to start spraying this outside. I use it year round inside. Thanks so much for watching
You are a life saver thanks very much
You are most welcome
I'm sitting here in my new 10x10 storage and thot man.. I need to prevent spiders eggs webs organicaly, longterm... and also needed to know how often I should spray???
Thanks for this brief no games video 👍🏼
#iloveu😘
It works pretty well if you keep spraying about once a week!
Thank you, you've been verrry helpful!!!
Happy to help!
Omg great idea. Love your backyard
Thanks! I love sitting out on the deck!
Would this be okay used, on soft indoor surfaces?
This was in my suggested youtube must have been in my brain because I’m sick of these spiders and worms in my garage !
That is funny! This warm weather is bringing out all the bugs! Thanks for watching, Nisha!
this is very good info...thank you so much...😬I hate spiders
Thanks! I hate spiders and they seem to hate this spray and stay away! Thanks for watching and hope your Monday is going well!
Hi AliciaLynn! TFS this SHORT/EASY vid!! 😃💞 I HATE LONG/CONFUSING vids 😣😄 FYI: I ALWAYS click on the SHORT vids 1st..as most of us are short on time & funds 😄😊😘
You're welcome Sandy! This stuff works great for me, thanks for watching!
@@AliciaLynnYT 😘💚
Thanks I will try this!!!
Hope you like it!
@@AliciaLynnYT I love it thank you, smells so good too!! I have so many spiders and webs ive used out door pesticide and now this!! I have too many black widows and im sure there are brown recluses, and to be able to use inside, and helps take odor away too!! woohoo
I was bit last week by brown recluse spider. Pain, sick, chills,,& ugly sore. ER put me on IV antibiotics.
I'm sorry to hear that! They give a nasty bite for sure, I hope you are doing better now.
@@AliciaLynnYT Thank you, I’m trying to get better, but I’m much more aware of insects.
Her: 1/2 teaspoon of peppermint oil. Me: 6 ounces should do😂
Hate them too enjoy watching going to try this
a spider showed up on me in bed i will be spraying this around my room hope it works
😮 I hope it does!
Is pure peppermint extract the same as the oil?
No, they are different
Spiders are a good thing they get rid of a lot of pesty insects
That's what I tell people about snakes
That vinegar doesn’t destroy things over time especially with multiple uses on metals?
It is acidic so I guess it could but I haven't had an issue.
Looks like I'm going to buy a few gallons of vinegar today. Not sure how much peppermint oil I have. What if you add a citrus scent cleaner to the water and vinegar...
They hate citrus scents so it may work!
This is reassuring considering my feelings towards spooders being near me. Alyssa thou.......... 😂
😄 Well you will be happy to know that I am planning on spraying the outside of the house with insecticide too! Gotta beat those spiders back! Hopefully you won't encounter too many when you are here....and your girlfriend is straight up crazy thinking they are "cute". I'm glad you are on my team with the whole spider thing! 😄😁
AliciaLynn yeah lol, I’m not terrified of spiders but I have no interest in them being close to me, especially with wolf spiders, funnel webs, black widows etc.
@@Zimzilla99 Well as long as you don't like them, that's good enough for me! You should have seen the size of the last wolf spider we saw.....tarantula size! Alyssa thought it was cute and was upset we killed it.
AliciaLynn I remember she told me about that 😂.
What brand of peppermint oil do you use and where do you buy it's from? Thank you
I get mine from amazon. There is a link to it in the description box. Thanks for watching!
I understand the important of predatorial spiders, I just don’t want someone I love to get bit. Our most dangerous spiders here are Black Widow, Brown Recluse, and Yellow Sac. I also have these one that are black up top, dark brown in the abdomen, and very hairy. They’re so creepy!!
I totally agree with you! I mainly want to keep the poisonous ones away and we have several kinds here!
@@AliciaLynnYT exactly. Wolf Spiders, Orb weave spiders, and daddy long legs are totally welcome in my garden.
I see that you use it on furniture.. does it leave a smell after ? And if I do it inside my room would it smell?
It does leave a peppermint smell for a little while, yes
J. Jonah Jameson will love this
😂😂 Yes!!!
Wow gotta try this, thanks for sharing 😉
I am definitely trying this! Does it work on other insects as well? Thanks Alicia!
I'm not sure about other insects but I would guess most wouldn't like the vinegar or peppermint. I know mice don't like peppermint either. Thanks so much for watching and have a great day!
I would warn that vinegar on wood will darken or gray it.
Yes, if you soak wood in vinegar it will darken it but so far no problem with that from just spraying this.
@@AliciaLynnYT In my woodworking projects, I disolve steel wool in vinegar and paint it on wood to “weather” it
@@kenairockband Yep, my husband does the same thing. It gives it that nice patinaed look!
Hi. Want can I use on my skin to prevent getting a spider bite in case I miss an area on the patio furniture?
Don't you need detergent as a surfactant?
I've used it without for years but you can always add it if you want!
label outside of container as spider spray
Thanks for the video i do not like spiders they are taking over not as many but they need to get out 😂😂
I'm with you on not liking spiders, they all need to get out as far as I'm concerned😄
Good
Going off to a camp cabin for a month, will this sprayed on a bed be nontoxic/safe to sleep on?
It is nontoxic but the peppermint smell might be a little much to sleep on. I would spray around, not on the bed.
Nice & useful video tfs
Thanks for watching!
Great video!
Thanks and thanks for watching!😊
Is it safe for pets , cats etc?
Peppermint oil is not good for dogs or cats. I have found out so many essential oils aren't, unfortunately. I spray mine mainly outside now because of that (my dogs are inside dogs) or in places in the house the dogs don't go. My dogs hate the smell and steer clear of it but better safe than sorry!
@AliciaLynnYT ok thank you very much
Is this cat friendly?
I don't believe peppermint oil is, no.
Where do you buy peppermint oil?
this is the one I buy amzn.to/3Q8n9RA
How can you gauge the effectiveness of the natural solution when you spray pesticides around the perimeter and windows of you home?
I haven't always used the natural spray. I used to just do pesticides. Once I started using the natural in conjunction with the pesticides, I had fewer spiders. Good enough for me!
Then you’ll have fly and other bug problems with viniger
I use this all the time and don't have that problem!
What about fleas?
Not sure
Is this safe to spray on or around plants?
I have sprayed it near plants but not on them. I would think the vinegar in this wouldn't be the best for plants because of the acidity of it.
@@AliciaLynnYT ok ty...new at plants
Do you use the same on outside door and lamps
I use this inside and outside on everything except for plants!
Can you spray the vinegar water mixture where the baseboards and Carpet meet on the floor? Or will the vinegar harm the carpet?
I think it would be fine but you can do a test area first to be sure.
@@AliciaLynnYT ok. Thank you. I'll try that
@@AliciaLynnYT Also another question if you don't mind. Do i wipe the spray off after I spray it on or do i leave it? Thanks 😊
@@justinwilliams3483 You leave it.
@@AliciaLynnYT OK thank you for the helpful info. 😊
Will it make your clothes smell?
Not if you let it dry on the surface of what you are spraying first.
@@AliciaLynnYT thanks
Um im here because one just crawled on me 😮
😨 😄
Hi...
Why 1/2 a tsp. ?? Why Not more?? I wanna see Not one spider at all....🤣😂
I hate spiders! N I'm allergic to spider bites more so their venom.
😄Feel free to add more but it's potent stuff!
So if I bumped it up a notch say it would be highly potent stuff?
N...how long does it stay that way after applying it.?? In ur video u said a week. The spiders here are a dime a dozen it must be the season of seasons....🤔🤨🙄😒😂🤣
Same me
😆
Alicia said no spiders today 😂😂😂 lmaooo i need to spray the house good reminder.. how do you go about spraying the inside with that?
Girl, if you would have seen the size of the one that we just killed in our hot tub room.....straight out of my nightmares! I need to spray pesticide outside too, I've been lazy but need to get on it! How I use this inside is I just spray along baseboards, around windows and doors. Any place that they may try to come in or tend to hang out. It really has helped inside! The spiders in VA are no joke! Thanks for watching!
AliciaLynn ugh i hate spiders too seriously, i bet and you live in the woods so it’s worse agh! And okay thank you, do you notice it drips or it’s fine?
@@HayleysHaus Yep, it's nice and all to live in the woods except for the fact that you get way more spiders!! I swear, they are like the size of tarantulas! I was telling my husband that the next house we buy needs to not have so many trees and vegetation so close to the house!
You just want a fine spray and that does the trick. Although sometimes when I'm spraying the windows and doors, it will run a little because it is the consistency of water.
AliciaLynn omg i would be sick haha thank you for the tips :)
How often do you have to spray??
3:30
Put a peppermint plant in your house.
I tried this, it didn’t work unfortunately
Sorry to hear that!
hmm you are thousand times bigger than spider😂
Fun fact: your here cuz there's a spider in your room
😂😂
I totally hate this
Good to know!
