I think the funniest part for those of you who have picked on this guitarist, he is almost always mirroring the notes the hiromi is playing. With relatively few exceptions, she is playing just as beautifully "out of key" as he is. Pay attention to her notes, they're not any less abnormal. And I love them both SO much.
In Hiromi's hands are the legacies of every piano player from Corea to Peterson to Zawinul to Hancock to McPartland to Evans to any of the legends. You are hearing a legend...and she is only 35.
I really couldn't agree more. An old, experienced and extremely talented piano performer and jazz musician, inside a tiny beautiful young girl, with a huge connection to music. Jazz is safe in her hands.
she's got a fiery virtuosity for sure, some guy in the paper compared her to tatum the other day even, that's a little far fetched though... maybe easier to compare if there were more solo recordings of her, but they're hard to find
You can't really compare her to the greatest jazz pianists because she isn't really improvising anywhere. All she is doing she's playing her arrangements. Better equivalent would be Lang Lang of modernmusic.
There is no praise high enough for someone who has raised the ART to a new height and glory. Hiromi is the human manifestation of the energy of pure sound. The band are all virtuoso's of the highest caliber, wisely chosen for their supreme abilities and depth of feeling.
Thank You Yuja Wang, for saying this young lady is who she like to see, when not on the road herself. I really enjoy her and everyone else in her performances.
Oh that's superb! Hiromi plays with so much empathy for the other players, matching tone and rhythm But she clearly loves playing with the drummer best of all. She tracks his rhythm so tightly in a few sections, challenges him, and challenges most just before the solo. It's sublime communication through music.
I loved it all. Hiromi always looks like she is really enjoying what she is doing. The others do, to. Aesthetically the guitar player was right on, and yes, the drummer was insane. That's as it should be. Shades of Buddy Rich...even better.
to everyone hating on this guitarist, i'd like to see you on stage with fucking hiromi uehara. he's there for a reason, just because he's unconventional doesn't make him any less deserving of sharing a stage with these musicians. shut up and enjoy the music.
That guitarist brought a nice exotic tone to this tune anyway. It's like people are programmed to wanna hear the same phrasing, the same playing, the same style every single time they hear a tune in the Jazz genre.
Stellar, Hiromi and this whole band is smokin' hot. Guitarist is doing some interesting "microtonal" stuff on that fretless neck; it reminds me of Shakti. It's definitely hard to mix that, and a piano tuned in a standard way. It's going to sound a little "off" depending. Not a reflection of his skill, as some of the uncharitable comments in here suggest (*smh*, do try it yourself!).
She can deliver such subtle emotions and nuanced meaning through sounds - it's phenomenal, really as if she's speaking from stage. Very rarely music reflects so much character of the performer.
Fiuczynski's playing never made it into my heart. When I hear him in comparison with this highly emotional playing from the trio (pianos, bass, drums), putting their soul and heart like it is their last day, I get concious again why...
I don't see how his playing isn't as passionate as the other players on stage. His way of expression may be stranger, with an healthy dose of non-western musical vocabulary, but is still very intense to my ears.
I love eastern music and exotic and oriental scales/harmonies. I was less talking about his melodic work then about the energy. For me is as or even more important HOW you play something than WHAT, it comes in my mind for example how he plays the theme of Caravan...But luckily tastes are different and this makes this planet interesting ;)
Can anyone tell me dafuq Hiromi is doing at the beginning? I'm in awe at the speed and I'm trying to understand how she sounds so good but I can't even tell what all the notes are.
@@uritibon17 I think that's a bit exaggerating probably trains no more than 4 hours each day. Work smarter not harder my friend. You can improve so much if you know very little but someone that knows alot will have trouble being freer than someone who has improvised for far longer. Both players can benefit from a different perspective.
one of the best versions...but to be honest i would name this asemi-brand new piece ...the song. has changwd incredibly much....only the theme melody is still there...everything else is new ideas! well done!!!
Александр Зайцев David ‘Fuze’ Fiuczynski is the guitarist and he’s legit (to say the least). He’s been a professor at Berklee College of Music for 18 years (and is a graduate from New England Conservatory)...
@@Black_Swan777 Not to mention he was named like the third best living guitarist in the world by Rolling Stone or somethin. Not exactly the best source imo, but he must be doing something right at least. Listen to his band Screaming Headless torsos to hear him at his full.
the guitarist is David Fiuczynski, and he is on another level, but yeah, if you saw 1 video on you tube of him playing the melody on caravan he must suck...
@@gormarx How condescending you are, "that loser" ? But yeah, lineup changes are always due to bad skills. That's why Marcus Miller was the bassist of Miles Davis for "just few years" before Miles realized Marcus was a looser too... Tutu was so bad. So sorry, your point is totally irrelevant.

It's always fun to watch a Hiromi video. Guitar guy's levels are too low, but everything else sounds great. Love the switch to the synth for the spacey parts then right back to Latin sounding keys. Things are banged up in this video, and again, a good watch.
Gotta bunch of lame ass traditionalists on this post. Hiromi is anything but traditional. And the guitarist is following Hiromi to the letter and she seems quite pleased. Amateurs love to tell professionals about perceived flaws. The pros just keep moving! on!
As someone who plays each of the instruments on stage, I find there physical stamina way more impressive. If I played the bass drum like this guy does for a minute and a half I would cramp up and I would have to rest, if I even could hit it that fast. I might just pass out playing piano that intensely.
This sparks joy.

one of the most important artist of our generation..... and rendition of Caravan
Awesome.Dave Fuczsynsky's style fits Hiromi's amazing paino playing just perfetly. I wish there was more from the two playing together.

insane !!! What a talent !
insaneintherainmusic hey nice to see you here! Hiromi is happening as is this whole group
O_O was my expression for the WHOLE. VIDEO. DAMN they're good!
Great drum solo!
So many guys go so out they lose the groove. He stretches it perfectly.
Love how Hiromi restarts the piano theme to give him the framework to resolve his solo and reintegrate it.
+George Christiansen exactly!
@@johnshinal6369it was beautiful!
Hiromi became possessed around 7:50. That could be some of the most insane improvising I've ever seen.
... Like Scriabin possessed
No habia escuchado a la gran Hiromi,,tocando con clave de tubao cubano,,con tanto ritmo y sabor en cada nota,,fenomenal!!!!!!!!
She is ! Phenomenal ! Camillo s girly
Lovely and expressive!!!
she is, they are, just fabulous
Oh God... I just fell in love...
Maravillosa!!!!!

how does she see moving her head like that? is she possessed? is this what jazz sounds like?!

j'adore j'adore
She played Haze in front of me \m/. Yup. Jazz Alley in Seattle. With the Trio Project. I had a table front row HER. Not five feet away.
well done, congratulations.

apasionante
I hate when people say Dave Fiuczynski is a bad guitarist. I know it's a matter of taste but please stay humble.
He does the same stuff on every tune. It's pathetic.
This is so dope
who is the drummer anybody know??? he's mental!!!
