2023 Subaru WRX GT Full Tour and Review! The Grown Up WRX?

- After spending a week with the 2023 WRX GT, here in a flashy ignition red, I’ve developed a love-hate relationship. Is the manual more engaging to drive? Yes. But this Subaru Performance Transmission combined with the many customizable drive modes, incredible steering rack, adaptive damper, and well trimmed interior (for a WRX), it makes a unique name for itself, especially for those who want a solid, sporty daily. (Especially where there’s lots of traffic) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🏁 @Alllcarnews Spec sheet: Under the hood is a 2.4L Turbocharged flat 4 making 271HP and 258 lb-ft of torque (349NM) to all four wheels, here through the new Subaru Performance CVT with an external transmission cooler and 8 speed manual mode. 🏁 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Highs:
-The powertrain and chassis is shockingly good. Acceleration is peppy enough and the quick & precise steering rack is incredibly engaging.
-The adaptive dampers are WONDERFUL, as are the endless customizable drive modes which unfortunately are both ONLY on the GT trim.
-The “SPT” was a stand out shocker to me. If you didn’t know it was a CVT, you likely may never realize. Simulated shifts are quick and crisp, sportier modes hold revs high.. though the manual still is more fun.
Lows:
-For nearly $44k and even with the suede inserts, the interior still feels economy. Road and wind noise is excessive, the infotainment system is frankly clumsy for 2023, and while nice looking, the Recaro seats are too firm and tight for daily use.
-Subaru’s reluctance to put the adaptive dampers on manual cars is frustrating.
-While having subaru Eyesight is a nice feature for longer trips, constant beeps and the inability to disable most of them hampers the experience.

I Just purchased a WR blue GT for my Son should be here before his Birthday next week it’s his first car I am a car and truck guy a family of enthusiasts so passing on the tradition of driving passion to my Son … can’t wait to see his face.

I have a 2015 WRX Limited with the CVT. It's honestly quite nice. Traffic is easy because you can use the automatic transmissions. But when you want to have fun with it, the paddle shifting is very responsive and fun. Almost sounds like a traditional 6-speed.
Agreed! The hate is unnecessary and if you don’t like it, simply don’t buy it!
Great review. I have a 2022 WRX GT and I love this vehicle!!! I've had this vehicle for almost a year coming up in August. I have some custom mods on the vehicle and the most liked mod is my AWE track exhaust. This exhaust has really opened up the sound. IT really does sound like a manual WRX with your POPS and BANGS. It also has the rumble effect when you are "down shifting". Just to point that out. I just love the GT it's great.
Oh that’s epic!!
Waaaait a minute. Dude!! 17:57 isn't that the on-ramp to 684/Saw Mill? Ain't no way damn dude you're from my area lol!
Yup that’s it
awesome video, this channel deserves way more views and interactions keep up the good work!
Thank you!!
Ok I gotta say I view many videos on the new WRX and I thought this thing was dead ugly UNTIL I saw it in person and holy SHIT this thing is freaking nice it was in white. Don't judge the looks on these videos you must see it in person.
I have a White ‘22 premium, I love it. Wife has it in black and gotta say I like hers better lol
@@junior11445 yes it does look good in black!
@@junior11445I have a ‘22 White GT and I’m always torn about whether another color is better. Lol.
Used to have a ‘17 black one, so going to white was a stretch for me.
I had the same exact reaction at the Subie dealership … traded in my 18 2.0T Accord for a 22 WRX mt limited.
Hey I think I’ve seen your car around I know exactly where you were driving next to king cone lol I’m getting a WRX maybe I’ll see you around!
Spotted!! Epic! Unfortunately only had this press car for a week but it honestly is fun once you drive it around a lot
why does this guy sound like that engineering car guy lol
Good video 5 star's
its crazy you can buy a brand new VB for less than a used VA.. Literally people are asking around 30k for a used car with around 100k on it when you can buy a brand new one for just a littler more or the same
@@KrGsMrNKusinagi0 VB is a better than VA in almost every respect. I'm not a huge fan of the infotainment system; elegant simplicity is always better, just look inside most luxury and super cars. However, I recently found that you can modify what and where 'buttons' are on the screen. I traded in a GT for the TR with some additional options and came out on top financially the other day. TRs are available for a great price because the tS is coming out, I highly suggest people looking at a new car check it out since it has well over 12k additional stuff on it; brembo breaks, ricaro seats, better steering and suspension, better interior, etc. I retaught myself how to drive a manual on my way home and absolutely love that car.
How are the brakes? Great review
Pretty solid, good on gravel too. Could use an upgrade for even better performance though especially over multiple events of harder braking. Didn’t notice fade in my driving though
What do you think of the recaro seats after a month?
I had this for a week which I stated in the video. And i found them to be uncomfortable and too stiff. so stiff the side supports would barley fit around me. not a fan
Great review, i was curious what major differences these new Subs have. It appears they went more in the direction of modern creature comforts( hence the CVT trans ) 🤢🤮than a high performance machine that slaps a grin on ur face. They traded in its heart for MPG. hopefully someday you get ur hands on a 05-07 STI and can feel the pure thrill that comes with driving it. I hope Subaru will one day go back to the roots that made them such a different and awesome manufacturer.
we can all hope that happens again 🙏🙏
There’s a manual version
@@smashingdumplingthere’s not a manual GT version smart ass🤣
It gets 26 mpg tops 😂
The only autos that we cared about in the WRX are the ones that had the 5EAT. They had personality due to being paired w/ the EJXXX. This car is no different from a Legacy-just made to be mainstream.
This got brake hold?
yes
The cvt might seem nice but you can’t tune it. Its too frail
You can tune it, just need to keep torque under 300, HP no more than 330. You can focus on reliability, handling and efficiency after that, at which point you have a car that can out maneuver a vast majority of other drivers on the road. I live near DC so manual would make the commute even more awful. I'll probably pick up a used manual VB after I retire to build a proper rally car, I'm perfectly content with my responsible illusion of power daily driver right now.
The only thing that sucks about the gt it only comes in cvt not manual these cars should only be manual if you ask me
Well now the get the tr aswell
Meh, it’s ok, the new Subaru has lost a step in a few places. The plastic everywhere still looks like crap, reminds me of an ugly 90s small suv. It’s a shame too, as the design is nice overall.don’t get me started with the missing STi version, it’s a sin they had to remove the top model because of emissions. The FA motor needed that FA247 treatment. But no, so in jumped Honda with the AWD turbo civic to pick up that market, dumb move Susie.
This car needs a proper dual clutch transmission
The WRX needs to keep its manual, which it’s doing.
Not to mention this new “SPT” high torque CVT by subaru is generally really good. 90% of people would never know it’s a CVT from driving it. only the small percentage of enthusiasts or “enthusiast comment warriors” will care.
But....its auto 😢
Yep... and you can get a manual too if you want. Just not on the GT
No STI will be coming - Subaru saw the GR Corolla and balked, the GR kills the GT in all areas for just a bit more money, but availability is scarce. Also the build quality in the WRX which was typically better than the competition was downgraded. To me it looks like an Imprezza dressed up as a Crosstrek for the Subaru Halloween party.
I drove the GR and it was really fun. It handles great and has a mean sound. It pulls well too. But the interior at the price point was a serious disappointment. GR also lacks armrest and there's lot of hard plastics in the front and rear. There's actually a budget feel to the GR. The exterior of the GR also looks not much different from the base model. For a car selling 40k+ with extra fees and the scarcity, it's not worth it. I also tested the GT. The GT might not be as fast, but the engine has lots of room for tuning. The 2.4 has more potential. People that own WRX's don't stay stock. The interior and even exterior (despite the cladding) is a higher quality than the GR. The GR has a rough ride while there is a setting on the WRX GT where you can make it more comfortable for daily use. Finally, there's more room in the back of the GT. It doesn't feel like a small car like the GR. There's also more room in the trunk of the GT. I'm still keeping my older STI but I was impressed by the GT. GT is more grown up than the GR.
shhhhh...why are you whispering..lol
compare to elantra N is sound so boring and accelerate too slow.
Elantra Ns are claustrophobic and stuck in the repair shop
$43K plus markups plus taxes and fees and all you get is 271 hp🤣🤮. I'd rather get elantra N for way less and more power
The car itself is correct but only you have issues...Who on earth buy Subaru Impreza automatic?? Everyone normal would buy MANUAL!
