I only read Chainsaw Man because its Vol 9 PV gave me a lot of Dorohedoro vibes. I just thought "If it's gonna like Dorohedoro it's going to be wild and right, CSM is fking wild". So when I heard that Fujimoto took inspiration from this I had no doubt.
Dorohedoro is kinda like Golden Kamuy in that telling you about the plot tells you less about the show than just saying "It's gory, it's goofy, it's fucking weird, and it's a helluva good time"
Golden Kamuy and Dorohedoro are so linked in my mind because they do a similar sort of thing with the characters, where like... all of them are nutty, and crazy, and weird, and I feel immense joy whenever I see any of them. literally two of my most beloved casts of characters ever... it's hard to find a story that similarly strikes this kind of balance between chaotic events and delightful personalities.
Dorohedoro, despite how weird it is, has a cohesive plot - it's just in a weird, weird world. Too many people slept on this, I think, even with its popularity. It's fantastic. Plus ALL THE TRACKS SLAP. They didn't miss.
I think my favorite thing about Dorohedoro is the approach it takes with monstrousness as a concept. it'll present all these people who look super weird, or vaguely threatening, or deformed, or like creatures, or devils, or non-standard... all sorts of other stuff. but then the main cast will talk to them and their personality will be so normal, or they'll have little endearing traits, like, sometimes they'll be so surprised when someone is mean, or they'll have a pleasant affectation, or they'll do something randomly helpful, and it's like... oh. they're just people. and I love them so much now. and then it's just so heartwarming to see them be weird and unserious... it just feels like this is how they naturally are. this is how they live their lives and make themselves happy as much as they can with the situation they're in. you and I would do the same in their situation, just like we already do in our own. you just can't hate that. it's one of the strangely most positive outlooks on people that I've seen in anything, without even trying.
I don't know if you're joking or not, but it's about sorcerers. The anime actually does an excellent job at explaining itself if you are paying attention.

The story of Dorohedoro got me so invested that after I finished the first season, I just had to go find the manga and read the rest. For context, I haven't read any other manga but the world was just so fascinating and the story so good that I needed more. It does make sense that the opening is called "Welcome to Chaos". Just to give you an example, the three meters tall cockroach who wears sneakers does play baseball. It doesn't break any rules apparently.
Dorohedoro (along with Jujutsu kaisen) has been the main inspiration for creating Chainsaw man. Another fun fact is that all 3 of those shows are animated by Studio MAPPA and Dorohedoro is directed by the Attack on titan season 4 director. It came out in 2020
oh my god, I've been so excited for this one for such a long time, thank you thank you thank you!!😁 honestly, the show is as weird as you think, but it's coherent when you actually watch it... if you're curious about it, I might suggest just doing it on twitch at some point. it's only 1 season, 12 episodes, so it'd go quick, and especially if you're curious about it... but that's up to you! for now, I can give a brief explanation of Dorohedoro. (disclaimer: all the information I'm sharing here comes up in the first episode, and you need it in order to explain the series sales pitch, but none of this is spoilers, especially not for the actual plot.) the woman in the opening is Nikaido, a restaurant owner in a human city called the Hole. I say "human city" because there's another option in this anime... sorcerers. they sometimes use their magic to create doorways that allow them to come over to the human world, where they use humans as test subjects to practice their magic, leaving many of the residents of the Hole disfigured. one such victim is Kaiman, who is Nikaido's best friend. Nikaido originally found him with no memory, and with his head transformed into a lizard head. so the plot of the show is mainly focused around the mystery of Kaiman's identity... who he was, and what he used to look like. their only clue so far, is a spectral face that only appears in Kaiman's throat when he puts a sorcerer's head in his mouth. it seems to be trying to identify someone, but Kaiman doesn't know who the face in his mouth is either. but on top of that... when you kill a sorcerer, it dispels their magic. so Kaiman and Nikaido go around killing sorcerers as a way of investigating who might've transformed Kaiman's head. (this incidentally doubles as part of the Hole's healthcare system for magic practice victims.) if this dispels the magic on Kaiman, they might get to see his face. but of course, the sorcerers don't take too kindly to that. particularly the En family, which is like the wizard mafia over in the sorcerer world. so eventually, they start trying to find out who Kaiman is too, and you end up with both the protagonists and the antagonists working on the same mystery from opposite directions. my favorite thing about this series is that all the characters look like the monster in a horror movie, and act like some of the sweetest people you've ever met, and somehow both sides of that feel equally genuine. it's the weirdest tone split that I've ever seen a piece of media legitimately maintain, and it pulls it off without a hitch. literally this series has some of the most lovable antagonists I've ever seen. it's one of those shows that builds a world I could spend forever in... I just want the characters to keep exploring, I'd watch no matter what they were doing. additionally, I highly recommend that you look up what the manga's art style looks like, because it's very different from the anime's look, and it's also very different from like... almost any other manga art I've seen. it's so good... I love Q Hayashida's aesthetic sense, and how dense and grungy her illustrations are. it's a miracle that this anime was even capable of happening, given how difficult it must've been to adapt that art style for animation, but MAPPA pulled it off. the anime only has one season out, but it came out in 2020, so who knows... another season isn't out of the question, but we've had no news yet. oh, and a lot of these endings are referential to plots or characters that come up in the story, but the symbolism is abstract to say the least... good on you for trying to interpret it, and I swear it makes sense in context, but I'm not gonna lie... there wasn't much hope of gleaning plot from this. you actually picked up way more than I would've expected in some areas, like, class divide is definitely a theme, and the difference between magic and mutation is a bit blurry in the world of this show as well. I'd call it a success that you were able to put together that much! also, this anime answers the question... can it run doom?

Dorohedoro is a gory, body horror comedy in an apocalyptic scenario where magic users from other dimension are causing mutations on people for the sheer fun of it.
Oh boy, was really fun watching this reaction. First of all, yes, the anime is just as weird if not even weirder than the opening and endings make it seem, but it's also incredibly fun and charming and even has some quite interesting characer- and worldbuilding. Definiely worth a watch, even if you'd decide to just watch it by yourself. (here's currently (sadly) only 1 season with 12 episodes, so it wouldn't be that huge of a commitment to give it a watch) In terms of plot I'll only say this: The world of dorohedoro is riddled with sorcerers and main character (the lizard dude) got his head made the way it is because of the magic of one of these sorcerers and subsequently also lost his memories, presumably because of that incident, and now he's trying to find out who did this to him and also who he was before it happened. And in terms of the music I have to just wholeheartedly agree, the opening and all of the endings are just total bangers and fit the weird yet fun and intiguing way of the show itself. My favorites are definiely the second and fourth ending tho.

Ohh get ready for s2 when AoT ends. I'm 99% sure Hayashi is going to go back to directing Dorohedoro. Also Mappa didn't have a complete 3d CG team in 2020 now they have more than 100 members. 8-10 months and we'll have peak again.
This should be suggested to watch, what a ride ... but worst part is... it is only 12 episodes, and no Season 2. 🥲 I still have Dorohedoro OSTs in my list while Im working.

this show was so damn great, the cgi might throw some people off but it is some of the best cgi in anime i have seen and it works so much for this show, and the world is so fantastic
its so funny how scarily on point and yet so far you sometimes are with your predictions and guesses Dorohedoro is about a post-apocalyptic, slum-esque world with magic shenanigans and mutants (yes, you got that idk how), and the anime delves into some super gory and grotesue horror elements and body horror (more so in later arcs), but also tackles friendship and problems in such a friendship, and shows interesting aspects of characters being neither good nor evil. The manga it is based off of is a bit older, it ran from 2000 all the way to 2014, and this anime is relatively new and made by Studio MAPPA and came out in 2020. The name Dorohedoro can be read as Doro Hedoro (Mud-Sludge), or Doro he Doro (from Mud to Mud; like the from ashes to ashes) I really really hope you do a reaction to this anime because the story is so good, and i cant believe you reacted to the op and eds it really made my day The anime is pretty short, its only 10-11 episodes, but the manga is completed and has enough stuff for at least 5 seasons, but MAPPA currently has their hands full, so no new season here any time soon
Dorohedoro is made by Studio Mappa before their insane quality boom. It is entirely CG too. I forget the overall story but i do remember both the protagonists and antagonists getting equal billing. It is very muchba fever dream sort of a show.
I recommend watching the opening and ending of the K project. There are at least two openings and several endings. opening "Kings" and ending Tsumetai Heya Hitori.
You should definitely do a reaction. The series is criminally underrated and anything which might help people find out about it is a win in my book. And a note to anyone who watches the anime and likes it: read the manga. It’s got an amazing artstyle and who knows when or if we get season 2.

So glad to see you react to these! The story is just almost as trippy as the openings/endings, and I guess the style isn't quite for anyone. It's all a total banger once get a taste for it though, just like the music! If you like what you've seen and heard so far, and you're a fan of Quentin Tarantino, I think you'd really enjoy this show.
late comment here but the band that did the ops and eds also did the whole soundtrack. its excellent work and based off of a collaboration/commision album the author had made for the manga, which is also really good!
Ahhhhh, Dorohedoro is organised chaos. It's soooooo wierd but have one of the best lore and world building I have seen in Anime/Manga. It was made in 2020 by MAPPA, but unfortunately it has only 12 episodes, because its director has been busy making AOT for the last 4 years. And if you think it's weird from the Eds and Ops, then just wait till you meet Johnson. And Johnson is only the tip of the iceberg. Pleeeeeeeeas watch it 🙏🙏🙏
I love dorohedoro! to paraphrase some random post I saw online a few years back, and add some of my own, drhdr is a cooking show disguised as a romantic comedy disguised as a screwball comedy disguised as a mystery story disguised as metal psychedelic horror disguised as uh, idk, fantasy interdimensional dystopia or something? I don't even know. it went something like that. it is wonderful. the characters are all so lovable, trust me here sadly only one season, I think 13 episodes? the manga by Q Hayashida (oh, who is a woman btw) is finished so I do hope they continue the anime some day

Best way to describe dorohedoro is: weird, not in the usual anime weird, but in the there is nothing else like it. i binge read the manga and i still have not seen anything like it to this day
Dorohedoro is about a Lizardman with Amnesia who lives in a place called "Hole" and hunts mages from another dimension to find the one that turned him into a lizard, along the way it kinda sorta becomes about a Gang war between Mages. i wouldnt call it weird but very excentric.
Dorohedoro probably the only punk hardcore anime where the villain is as loveable if not more as the protagonist bcuz no one is sane in this anime... They are all crazy af.. and i love it..
K)NoW_NAME is a great band, they made a lot of Ost for anime as well, like Spy x family, Dorohedoro, Fairygone and one of the best "realistic" isekai Hai to Gensou no Grimgar
Welcome to Chaos is definitely one of my favorite openings of all time music wise. It might also be the anime opening I've listened to the most because it's exactly my kind of music.
1st: yes the anime is peak and its especially because it's weird that it's so enjoyable 2nd: I dont think anybody can guess what the anime is about just based on the opening and the endings 3rd : yes the anime is as (and maybe even more) weird as the op and the ends, it's a milshake of gory, goofy, dark stuff, there are a lot of mysteries which complete the whole vibe this anime represents.
Luke, I can think of a few series that you may like that I don't think you've seen/heard yet. You should add the OPs/EDs of Gate (2 seasons), the Grisaia series (Fruit of Grisaia/Labyrinth of Grisaia/Eden of Gisaia/Grisaia Phantom Trigger), the Black Butler (Kuroshitsuji) series (Black Butler S1, S2, Book of Circus, Book of Murder, Book of the Atlantic) and/or the World God Only Knows (3 seasons) to your list of possibles to check out OPs and EDs for.
What i love about Dorohedero is that all the main characters have a complexity to them - they are not simply good or bad, which makes it more realistic in the midst of the crazy setting

I watched this recently and well.... aside from one of the main characters VA's giving me flashbacks to Jojo part 4 (Like seriously I was expecting an 'OI JOSUKE!' at any given moment), I binged it in one sitting. Have to say I absolutely want a season 2, it's sweet, messed up and .... weirdly wholesome in places? I dunno, all I know is I like it and I'm absolutely up for more of it.
Regarding your question of when the anime came out... Yep, it was 2020. Done by MAPPA, of course. Only one season so far, but we're not giving up hope! After all, the OG manga was considered impossible to adapt (for the record, the manga ran from 2000 to 2018. Nearly of 18 years (give or take a few months)! That's pretty insane!)
And/THAT/ is Doroooo-heeeeee-dorooooo! Awesome series but really needs a second season to answer questions. For some reason i wanna throw a curveball with a recommendation and suggest "Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory" OPs and EDs. I like OP1 a lot largely due to the saxophone. Theres two OPs (The Winner and Men Of Destiny) and two EDs (Magic and Evergreen).
Highschool of the Dead is one I'd recommend, though it has 1 op & 13 ed (every episode has it's own ending) so it might be too many for 1 reaction video.

Dorohedoro is a gory, body horror comedy in an apocalyptic scenario where magic users from other dimension are causing mutations on people for the sheer fun of it.
Oh boy, was really fun watching this reaction.
First of all, yes, the anime is just as weird if not even weirder than the opening and endings make it seem, but it's also incredibly fun and charming and even has some quite interesting characer- and worldbuilding. Definiely worth a watch, even if you'd decide to just watch it by yourself. (here's currently (sadly) only 1 season with 12 episodes, so it wouldn't be that huge of a commitment to give it a watch)
In terms of plot I'll only say this: The world of dorohedoro is riddled with sorcerers and main character (the lizard dude) got his head made the way it is because of the magic of one of these sorcerers and subsequently also lost his memories, presumably because of that incident, and now he's trying to find out who did this to him and also who he was before it happened.
And in terms of the music I have to just wholeheartedly agree, the opening and all of the endings are just total bangers and fit the weird yet fun and intiguing way of the show itself.
My favorites are definiely the second and fourth ending tho.

All songs were made by the same band "(k)now_name". This band also made the OST for the animes from TOHO Animation including animes like Spy X Family.

this show was so damn great, the cgi might throw some people off but it is some of the best cgi in anime i have seen and it works so much for this show, and the world is so fantastic
Even though no plot can be more bizarre than Jojo's, the artstyle of this show defenitely competes
its so funny how scarily on point and yet so far you sometimes are with your predictions and guesses
Dorohedoro is about a post-apocalyptic, slum-esque world with magic shenanigans and mutants (yes, you got that idk how), and the anime delves into some super gory and grotesue horror elements and body horror (more so in later arcs), but also tackles friendship and problems in such a friendship, and shows interesting aspects of characters being neither good nor evil.
The manga it is based off of is a bit older, it ran from 2000 all the way to 2014, and this anime is relatively new and made by Studio MAPPA and came out in 2020.
The name Dorohedoro can be read as Doro Hedoro (Mud-Sludge), or Doro he Doro (from Mud to Mud; like the from ashes to ashes)

The anime is pretty short, its only 10-11 episodes, but the manga is completed and has enough stuff for at least 5 seasons, but MAPPA currently has their hands full, so no new season here any time soon
Dorohedoro is made by Studio Mappa before their insane quality boom. It is entirely CG too. I forget the overall story but i do remember both the protagonists and antagonists getting equal billing. It is very muchba fever dream sort of a show.
I recommend watching the opening and ending of the K project. There are at least two openings and several endings. opening "Kings" and ending Tsumetai Heya Hitori.
You should definitely do a reaction. The series is criminally underrated and anything which might help people find out about it is a win in my book.
And a note to anyone who watches the anime and likes it: read the manga. It’s got an amazing artstyle and who knows when or if we get season 2.

I at least read the manga and the whole story is goofy, crazy, scary, gory and by the end of it you will understand why the intro is called "Welcome to Chaos"

It's a really solid anime but the story is just really chaotic. Now I want to rewatch it.

late comment here but the band that did the ops and eds also did the whole soundtrack. its excellent work and based off of a collaboration/commision album the author had made for the manga, which is also really good!

Ahhhhh, Dorohedoro is organised chaos. It's soooooo wierd but have one of the best lore and world building I have seen in Anime/Manga. It was made in 2020 by MAPPA, but unfortunately it has only 12 episodes, because its director has been busy making AOT for the last 4 years. And if you think it's weird from the Eds and Ops, then just wait till you meet Johnson. And Johnson is only the tip of the iceberg. Pleeeeeeeeas watch it 🙏🙏🙏

to paraphrase some random post I saw online a few years back, and add some of my own, drhdr is a cooking show disguised as a romantic comedy disguised as a screwball comedy disguised as a mystery story disguised as metal psychedelic horror disguised as uh, idk, fantasy interdimensional dystopia or something? I don't even know. it went something like that. it is wonderful. the characters are all so lovable, trust me here
sadly only one season, I think 13 episodes? the manga by Q Hayashida (oh, who is a woman btw) is finished so I do hope they continue the anime some day

Best way to describe dorohedoro is: weird, not in the usual anime weird, but in the there is nothing else like it. i binge read the manga and i still have not seen anything like it to this day
Dorohedoro is about a Lizardman with Amnesia who lives in a place called "Hole" and hunts mages from another dimension to find the one that turned him into a lizard, along the way it kinda sorta becomes about a Gang war between Mages.
i wouldnt call it weird but very excentric.
The people who have watched Dorohedoro have no idea what's it's about. It's an experience and I love it.

Welcome to Chaos is definitely one of my favorite openings of all time music wise. It might also be the anime opening I've listened to the most because it's exactly my kind of music.

1st: yes the anime is peak and its especially because it's weird that it's so enjoyable
2nd: I dont think anybody can guess what the anime is about just based on the opening and the endings
3rd : yes the anime is as (and maybe even more) weird as the op and the ends, it's a milshake of gory, goofy, dark stuff, there are a lot of mysteries which complete the whole vibe this anime represents.

You should add the OPs/EDs of Gate (2 seasons), the Grisaia series (Fruit of Grisaia/Labyrinth of Grisaia/Eden of Gisaia/Grisaia Phantom Trigger), the Black Butler (Kuroshitsuji) series (Black Butler S1, S2, Book of Circus, Book of Murder, Book of the Atlantic) and/or the World God Only Knows (3 seasons) to your list of possibles to check out OPs and EDs for.

Honestly one of my favorite manga, up there with Claymore.
What i love about Dorohedero is that all the main characters have a complexity to them - they are not simply good or bad, which makes it more realistic in the midst of the crazy setting

only has 1 season and ends on a cliffhanger, and we had no info on a renewal since it originally aired in 2020
I watched this recently and well.... aside from one of the main characters VA's giving me flashbacks to Jojo part 4 (Like seriously I was expecting an 'OI JOSUKE!' at any given moment), I binged it in one sitting.
Have to say I absolutely want a season 2, it's sweet, messed up and .... weirdly wholesome in places? I dunno, all I know is I like it and I'm absolutely up for more of it.
Regarding your question of when the anime came out... Yep, it was 2020. Done by MAPPA, of course. Only one season so far, but we're not giving up hope! After all, the OG manga was considered impossible to adapt
(for the record, the manga ran from 2000 to 2018. Nearly of 18 years (give or take a few months)! That's pretty insane!)

For some reason i wanna throw a curveball with a recommendation and suggest "Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory" OPs and EDs. I like OP1 a lot largely due to the saxophone. Theres two OPs (The Winner and Men Of Destiny) and two EDs (Magic and Evergreen).
