Gintama's obsession with ball jokes is because it's in the title. Gin = silver Tama = balls. Gintama = Silver Balls. Tama can also mean soul. So Silver Soul and Silver Balls. That's the joke.
FUN FACT: Gintama is supposed to mean Silver Soul (Gin no Tamashi) but literally translates to Silver balls (Gin=silver, Tama=ball as in the ball in football, volleyball, etc). It also sounds similar to Kintama which translates to Golden ball and in Japanese Golden balls is slang for Test**les.

I got to initiate two Gintama newbies with that episode! My BIL saw it from the beginning, but my bf at the time arrived at the house right as the radio story started. He walked in and sat on the couch with no idea what we were watching. 11/10 experience! The bf is now a fiance and he's on episode 200 with me.
Gintama is my favorite anime, never have i cried as much in an Anime out of laughter and sadness. It's mainly comedy and has a really slow start but after that is gold and when it gets serious you'll question yourself if you are even watching the same series
Funny that you mention the obsession with balls and testicles in Gintama. In one of the early episodes they make it a very big point NOT to misspell it as Kintama, because that would translate to testicles
Here's are tips when watching Gintama -never eat while watching Gintama -never eat after watching Gintama -never eat before watching Gintama -always take a shower after watching Gintama, then you can eat later 😅
i literally just watched the jojo's out of context video and said "if you think this is weird you should react to gintama" and here you are!! 🤣😂😂😂 also, dont start watching gintama yet! i recommend watching it after you watch other animes first because its like the end journey of anime if you get what i'm saying...
Because there are many teenage jump works and characters in "Gintama", but they have not been complained about by other manga artists😂. Gintama manga author Hideaki Sorachi also has a good relationship with other manga artists, and Toriyama Akira's daughter went to watch Dragon Ball because she watched Gintama. Therefore, Mr. Toriyama is very grateful to Hideaki Sorachi.❤
Didn't know if you did seen my comment or not in the Jojo out of context reaction, but told ya. Gintama out of context is just as or much crazier than Jojo.
Gintama have one of the scenes that made laugh near to die, one in the public bathroom. Other anime that have this kind of scenes is "Daily life of High School Boys" (Danshi kokosei no nichijou). You could watch Daily Life, to tray a bit of the japanese anime comedy
I haven't seen Gintama before, but this does not surprise me at all. I have watched Cromartie High School, and I've seen bits of Bobobo Bo Bobobo, and believe me... Japanese comedy is a very strange experience for western audiences. there's some amount of it that can be chalked up to things like Japanese puns, or idioms/wordplay depicted literally, which will just become absurdist humor if you don't know why it's there... but there's also an element of Japanese humor that is just incredibly weird. Gintama is right in that vein, at all times. also, hello Luke's wife! it was nice to see her pop into a video, and I hope this experience was a fun one! it is hilarious that this was the clip that triggered the "hang on a minute, I have a person I love who I desperately need to confuse with this content" instinct. that's a true sign of affection.
Gintama has both some of the weirdest and funniest comedic moments in anime and then the end of the same episode will have you tear up from sadness or hype from an epic fight scene. Gintama mastered the comedy/serious moment tonal shift to the point where it would feel like two different shows anywhere else but for Gintama they are both part of it's identity.
you definetly have more than enough shows under your belt to watch gintama. i had seen way less when i watched it and its still my absolute number 1 after all these years. i feel like alot of the people saying ¨you need to watch more before you watch this¨ just say it so you would watch their fav anime instead. i understand its cool if you get more refrences but 95% of them is just one line anyways so it doesent really matter if you get it or not. pretty much all of the big refrences you will get even with less of watch time in anime
Finally, content about the besto shonen!! As a curious fact with other videos on the channel, Gintama is Ado's guilty pleasure, he said it in a podcast with Suzuka from AG, he finds this anime very funny but the scatological jokes sometimes alarm him.
It’s not like they only make one piece references. He can get by without having seen it. Hell he’s probably seen most of the anime Gintama references at this point. I’m sure he’ll be fine.
The thing is. Gintama is full of Japanese culture references other than anime/manga related. 99% of people outside of Japan will not get those jokes and references. What I mean is that you do not need to get every reference in the show to enjoy it.
This anime aired in the evening in Japan. There was no so-called age limit, and children were absorbed in watching it. Poop and naughty stuff were the kids' favorite, so it was really popular. There were also many parodies of other popular manga such as Shonen Jump, which was also highly rated. I also loved this silly comedy.
I watched Gintama when i only watched Naruto, Fairy Tail and Dragonball before. There is a lot of references, but i understood enough, that i could laugh constantly. This is in my opinion the funniest Anime of all time. (other comedic Animes i've watched are Great Teacher Onizuka, Grand Blue and Shikanokonoko koshitantan)
god i love gintama, yeah the reason we say to wait on it a bit is exactly that, the more anime you see the more references you get, some will fly over your head regardless since they also reference japanese classical things from time to time but its very much a comedy (serious at times and OH BOI when it gets serious its just beyond amazing) anime that has a lot of fun with itself.
Now one meme from every jojo episodes!! That video has been re-uploaded again on RUclips. It's my favourite jojo video of all time. I can Guarantee that it will be even crazier that the previous ones...
14:22 Idk if anyone told you yet but the literal title of the anime is a balls joke. In Japanese balls are often called "Kintama," 'kin' meaning gold and 'tama' being ball. Meanwhile 'gin' in gintama means silver. It's wild xD
Many fans declared Gintama as one of the badass anime- not because of these contents but because of how this kind of anime was created. It feels like a roller coaster ride when you watch this anime. You will laugh most of the time- actually, most episodes are funny, but you will also cry and eventually cheer for them to win against the bad guys who want to invade the earth.
Gintama is genuinely so good. Out of context it may seems undiluted, unhinged humor but it has so many heartwrenching moments too. The serious moments make it just as worthy of a watch as the jokes. I also watched it without having seen a chunk of the referenced animes and you will still have a great time. Gintoki is such a unique shonen protagonist, too. His whole thing is essentially that he just wants to live his life but life won't let him do that. 🤣
@@GOTGames think of Gintama as a reward for being a long time anime and manga fan! I watched Gintama after 15 years of being a weeb (I dropped it twice back when the first season was airing because I didn’t understand most of the references and japanese culture), and oh man was it worth it. It’s my all time favourite now. Patience will pay off!
Nah, I only watched Bleach and finished Gintama. Sure you might not completely understand every joke to the fullest if it is referencing something very specific but if you have a base idea of what the other animes are about most of the jokes are probably going to hit anyway.
Bruh, I watched Gintama and the second I saw something I didn't understand I immediately paused it and went on google, sure it made my watch very long but at least I got the Full experience and now I have extra useless knowledge of said things I googled rofl
Can you believe me that from this video, you will think that Gintama is a weird show that constantly making d*** and as* joke constantly but when you're watching the actual show, you will be surprised by how when you watching from some of the episode at the start, you will laugh but by the end of some episodes, you will cry non-stop and I'm not joking or pulling your leg with this one. Gintama has the power to do that if you actually watch the show.
Fun fact: Kin Tama (golden Balls) means testicles 😂 so lots of jokes about Gintama x Kintama But it also has another meaning: Gin tama (silver soul) also represents a re occurring theme in the show that even if you are not perfect, beautiful, strong, a good person, etc etc (a golden soul) you can still occasionally shine with a beautiful silver light 😊
Luke I’m here for your comedy anime journey. Best for you right now is Grand Blue. It’s fun, short and addicting but without any restrictions to other animes. Jojo is great but with 6/7 seasons, it becomes great starting from season 2 so you have to commit because it’s lengthy. Gintama is like dessert after you had a blast of main course buffet of anime.
So I was on vacation in China, I decided to see a movie while I was there. Just to see the difference between seeing a movie in a foreign country versus at home. Turns out that the Gintama live action movie had just been released, it was my first experience with the series. "Oh, so this is a historical series.....why is there a guy in a penguin suit?"
Gintama is top 5 anime for me because one arc I'm dying laughing and then the next its the most heart wrenching death of a character and there's no in between
Gintama is my favourite anime of all time! It's honestly hilarious. I tried recommending it to my friends back then but they dropped it early on because they find the first 10 episodes to be boring :') But it honestly builds up rapidly if you continue watching it!
Hahhaa I love Luke's comments on everything. Especially when he goes, "...I feel like I'd get most of them." And instantly misses a One Piece reference on the next clip
Gintama is the reward you treat yourself to after watching dozens of shows. You're not Japanese so you'll never get it 100% but you will enjoy it. Theres nothing i can say to describe the show that hasnt already been said, but in 20+ years of watching shows and thousands of episodes, it is my favorite series.
Even though it has moments like this, it actually has an outstanding overarching story that is serious and will make you cry at times. I know it might be hard to believe but I guess you'll have to see for yourself ;)
Gintama has a strong hold on #1 for my favorite anime of all time, simply being fun and it's penchant for mixing in sob stories and it doesn't feel off too.
I hope you react to this in the future tho it's not something that you can get hooked on instantly, I mean for most anime watchers because this is not the usual hyped up typa thing in this generation of anime. I remembered this series when I was looking for comedy anime and eventually I stayed because I became curious of Gintoki's backstory but in the long run I ultimately came to love this series, still my no. 1. All of the characters are lovable and you'll see the beauty of the story if you come to love it.
"I swear there is a testicle joke every 10s" Gintama is actually a testicle joke. Direct Translation: Gintama = silver marble Kintama = gold marble Meaning Translation: Gintama = silver soul Kintama = testicles (golden balls) Also "ki" and "gi" are basically the same kana: ki = き(hiragana) / キ (katakana) gi = ぎ (hiragana) / ギ (katakana) So if you glance over the title in kana you might read "Testicles" xD Gorilla-sensei's wisdom knows no bounds.
I would certainly say that the episode of gintama you watched was more insane than the first episode of JoJo. It had flying police cars, 4th wall breking and rapid pace timimg and jokes. Jojo was just over the top.
The Gintama manga ran for over a decade in Weekly Shounen Jump, and it got a lot of mileage out of parodying other Jump manga...but the parodies ranged further afield. There are episodes referencing Star Wars, even an episode parodying the movie Slumdog Millionaire. There are even places where the humor goes meta, like a whole arc making fun of character popularity polls. The manga author is even a character in the show (he's depicted as a gorilla). But there's another layer to Gintama: the overall setting and story is a sci-fi alternate history taking place in a warped version of the Bakumatsu period of Japanese history (the 1860s, right before the Meiji Restoration), where instead of American gunboats showing up, it was fleets of space aliens. In fact, many of the human characters are based on real Japanese historical figures. The main character has several run-ins with the Shinsengumi, who get a lot of development. So if you've done any reading on Japanese history, you'll get an extra charge out of the show.
Well clearly you weren't ready for Gintama🤣🤣🤣🤣 Basically it's THE definition of parody anime and yet it still somehow carries emotional and relatable message across the world, which makes the show one of the most popular ones. You can react to the series at anytime, people (including me) would recommend it after watching ALL shonen animes anyway😝
Gintama is a mix of South Park, Futurama, serious shonen and reference to plenty of animes. Decide for yourself when to watch it, even after twenty years of anime I didn’t get all the references. But if you want, for sure all big shonens are referenced, and each reference is making fun of its source. So more you know, more funny it gets.

Ah yes, i forgot to mention, gintama´s obsession with balls it cuz its name (Gintama=silver soul, but a very common joke is calling it Kintama=balls)
great episode damn
@@slatedrash you mean the insomnia episode where kagura cant sleep? That sh*t was funny af i love it 💀😂😂😂😂
I got to initiate two Gintama newbies with that episode! My BIL saw it from the beginning, but my bf at the time arrived at the house right as the radio story started. He walked in and sat on the couch with no idea what we were watching. 11/10 experience!
The bf is now a fiance and he's on episode 200 with me.
The only correct reaction seeing Gintama out of context for the first time, is sitting with the mouth open just being speachless
The kintama even becomes plot relevant, don't forget that.
(Talking about the ultimate neil armstrong cyclone jet armstrong cannon here)
Gintama is perfect, the comedy is perfect and the action is one of the best of all the time, you need to watch
Here's are tips when watching Gintama
-never eat while watching Gintama
-never eat after watching Gintama
-never eat before watching Gintama
-always take a shower after watching Gintama, then you can eat later 😅
no way we got wife reveal before gta6
😂
I watched about 160 episodes of Gintama years ago, and I still have no idea what's happening in these clips
i just wanna say, Gintama is AMAZING. the humor? top tier. some of the action? top tier. you really should give this series a try
Hands down one of the most memorable series of all time
i literally just watched the jojo's out of context video and said "if you think this is weird you should react to gintama" and here you are!! 🤣😂😂😂
also, dont start watching gintama yet! i recommend watching it after you watch other animes first because its like the end journey of anime if you get what i'm saying...
I really love seeing your journey through Anime and RUclips❤ big fan been here since the first ever AoT vid
🫡
Didn't know if you did seen my comment or not in the Jojo out of context reaction, but told ya. Gintama out of context is just as or much crazier than Jojo.
Don't know about him but I did.
Lmao perfect time I just started binging Gintama I’m on ep 31 atm
good luck with this masterpiece
Good luck with your journey
🫡
Don't drop it no matter what
@@Gintoki_597I’m at 106 now and going strong it’s the only show I’ve been watching now I’m enjoying a lot
We need a 1 second from every gintama episode reaction
Gintama has both serious arc and funny/joke arcs/episodes
The Gintama with no context takes mostly from the joke//funny ones
omg this is exactly the first thing I thought after seeing your Jojo video without context!
I pray one day he watches Nichijou clips. Man vs Deer and goat suplex scenes are needed on this channel
I was gonna suggest Nichijou!!
He would not survive the deer fights and laserbeam dog 😂😂
you definetly have more than enough shows under your belt to watch gintama. i had seen way less when i watched it and its still my absolute number 1 after all these years. i feel like alot of the people saying ¨you need to watch more before you watch this¨ just say it so you would watch their fav anime instead. i understand its cool if you get more refrences but 95% of them is just one line anyways so it doesent really matter if you get it or not. pretty much all of the big refrences you will get even with less of watch time in anime
Gintama crosses all those categories
Finally, content about the besto shonen!! As a curious fact with other videos on the channel, Gintama is Ado's guilty pleasure, he said it in a podcast with Suzuka from AG, he finds this anime very funny but the scatological jokes sometimes alarm him.
When you mentioned south park, that's pretty much the japanese version of the same spirit. but more insane slapstick comedy.
😂
"Surely I'm there now right?" Then miss One Piece reference. You're definitely not there yet Luke
👀
This anime aired in the evening in Japan. There was no so-called age limit, and children were absorbed in watching it. Poop and naughty stuff were the kids' favorite, so it was really popular. There were also many parodies of other popular manga such as Shonen Jump, which was also highly rated. I also loved this silly comedy.
This show is so good that I wish I could erase my memory about Gintama and watch it again for the first time.
Gintama is its own genre
Gintama is absolutely amazing and the first anime that actually had me cracking up 😂 I binged the entire show
It's perfect trip from comedy to dramma, from dramma to comedy inside dramma, to damma inside dramma inside comedy
Jojo's is an action with comedy.
Gintama is a comedy with action.
Love your reaction, dude... ❤️❤️
THANK YOU !!!! :D ps when you asked your wife to watch that I was like "yes, he aint going down alone hahahahah"
Gintama is everything. Simply the best
Bro ain't ready for Golden Kamuy 💀💀
Guys I think we traumatized Luke enough🤣🤣🤣
One day when you have seen more Shonen Jump series(One Piece, Naruto, Bleach, Dragon Ball, etc.) you will be ready to enjoy Gintama. Give it time.
😢
@@GOTGames think of Gintama as a reward for being a long time anime and manga fan! I watched Gintama after 15 years of being a weeb (I dropped it twice back when the first season was airing because I didn’t understand most of the references and japanese culture), and oh man was it worth it. It’s my all time favourite now. Patience will pay off!
Nah, I only watched Bleach and finished Gintama. Sure you might not completely understand every joke to the fullest if it is referencing something very specific but if you have a base idea of what the other animes are about most of the jokes are probably going to hit anyway.
nah hes been ready to watch it for a long time. you guys are way too gatekeepy about it.
Bruh, I watched Gintama and the second I saw something I didn't understand I immediately paused it and went on google, sure it made my watch very long but at least I got the Full experience and now I have extra useless knowledge of said things I googled rofl
One of the masterpiece ⚡⚡⚡
Luke went from just laughing to being a broken man
I know I'll enjoy this
"Perhaps we'll watch something normal next time."
Immediately the thought that popped in my head was "With the Frizz? No way!"
Literally. And when it starts getting too serious you start missing the comedy moments cuz that was not the Gintama I expected... 🥲😭😭
Fun fact: Kin Tama (golden Balls) means testicles 😂 so lots of jokes about Gintama x Kintama
But it also has another meaning:
Gin tama (silver soul) also represents a re occurring theme in the show that even if you are not perfect, beautiful, strong, a good person, etc etc (a golden soul) you can still occasionally shine with a beautiful silver light 😊
Gintama is top 5 anime for me because one arc I'm dying laughing and then the next its the most heart wrenching death of a character and there's no in between
He needed his wife to react to so that he think's what he was watching was real 🤣
Gintama is my favourite anime of all time! It's honestly hilarious. I tried recommending it to my friends back then but they dropped it early on because they find the first 10 episodes to be boring :')
But it honestly builds up rapidly if you continue watching it!
Gintama is the only anime that is more bizarre than Jojo’s
This is the best anime every created, Gintama what a show will always be my favorite
Hahhaa I love Luke's comments on everything. Especially when he goes, "...I feel like I'd get most of them." And instantly misses a One Piece reference on the next clip
15:42 Luke... you are super red and crying. Are you ok? XD
She watched it even more out of context
07:40 😂😂 I was dying of laughter. Thanks for adding their reaction too 😂
😂
Even though it has moments like this, it actually has an outstanding overarching story that is serious and will make you cry at times.
I know it might be hard to believe but I guess you'll have to see for yourself ;)
No way you reacting gintama, this is wild 😂😂😂😂
I wish there was a Bobobo compilation on RUclips. I looked everywhere but it's only short clip videos :c Hilarious anime from early 2000s
Gintama is my favorite anime. You should definitely watch it! I promise you will laugh at least once nearly every episode.
"I swear there is a testicle joke every 10s"
Gintama is actually a testicle joke.
Direct Translation:
Gintama = silver marble
Kintama = gold marble
Meaning Translation:
Gintama = silver soul
Kintama = testicles (golden balls)
Also "ki" and "gi" are basically the same kana:
ki = き(hiragana) / キ (katakana)
gi = ぎ (hiragana) / ギ (katakana)
So if you glance over the title in kana you might read "Testicles" xD
Gorilla-sensei's wisdom knows no bounds.
This anime is a slice of life comedy with a lot of drama and action
Well clearly you weren't ready for Gintama🤣🤣🤣🤣
Basically it's THE definition of parody anime and yet it still somehow carries emotional and relatable message across the world, which makes the show one of the most popular ones.
You can react to the series at anytime, people (including me) would recommend it after watching ALL shonen animes anyway😝
Well now I have to recommend "1 Second From Every Episode of Gintama". Its another video alot of people enjoy reacting to before watching.
