I have always believed that Bill Cullen was not a great choice to host the show. He always had a slower approach to hosting that did not fit by the 1980s. Bill was past his prime by this point.This show run would have lasted past 1988 if Peck were hosting.
Maybe. "Wheel of Fortune" and "Jeopardy!" chewed into Barry and Enright's audience since 1984 and children's game shows, namely "Double Dare" and "Fun House", also dominated daytime television. But I do think that "The Joker's Wild" could've entered into the late eighties (maybe '87, at the very latest) with Jim Peck as emcee.
Jim did good work, it was thought he’d replace Jack Barry when he retired, but for some reason, they brought in Bill Cullen-this would turn out to be his last hosting job
