Can't speak on behalf of why the previous owners of this car didn't take the preventative measures, but yes doing all of those things would have gone a long way in keeping this from happening. I was the 3rd owner when i bought this car and the damage was done. I've been detailing cars since 2002 and I'm a big fan of 303 protectant and using sun shades to block the UV here in FL. So many people grew up on ArmorAll and apply it thinking they are helping their dash, but are ultimately contributing to it's demise which I have a feeling was probably the case with this car. I initially covered up my melted dash with a mat to hide it, but the cracks were still visible in the front and I eventually went this route in the video.
That stitching looks all kinds of crazy.... I will say it looks great as a option. My G35 is starting to say F you with cracks lol and I've had it for 12 years
I'm 12 years too and fukin Infiniti wont replace their faulty design for free or any discount. If this is an option, ill pay for a new dash. Dont like that work done, it looks like a cheap glue on.
Its not about dash care! I have an 08, always use Meguiars and its garage kept. After 6 years it started cracking from bottom where no sunlight hits. Its a PIECE OF SHIT DASH! Infiniti owes us a free dash. I don't think we should have to do this. Ridiculous, but guess what, Infiniti is tanking on sales, wonder why.
😭 i just found a small crack near my glove box , I’ve had a pretty nice dash cover I got from wish for dirt cheap and it’s decent quality to my surprise. There has to be some kind of putty or mix to drop in the crack...? My crack is still pretty small (hah) ....but I know it’ll get worse even with a sun shade .
yea I did another video awhile back about a leather style dash cover I got that helped with the melted dash I inherited with the car, but didn't cover up my cracks on the front which as you mentioned, got worse with time. Ugh, I just wish Infiniti could get it right!
You are seriously wrong for telling people not to worry about the airbags functioning. Leather could absolutely impact airbag deployment. As you said some cars even have perforations in the dash for the airbags.
I've seen these covered dashes after an accident, airbag had no problem with deployment. In fact one of my older cars had the dash recovered and I got in an accident, airbag moved the dash covering right out of the way. It's possible he did once he realized much work was involved with taking the dash out and putting it back in LOL. @@hubushi for sure, you need to disconnect the battery anytime you're messing with car electronics and airbags, especially something as major as removing the dash. As far as forced induction, supercharger is one good option, I like twin turbo better. Both can be fast and fun if done correctly, but unless you're really experienced to do most of the work yourself it can also be expensive to do it right, making it safe and reliable to re-engineer a car and engine bay that wasn't really designed for forced induction. I knew a guy that did it and afterwards he said he could have just bought a used gtr after all the money he spent on it. But then there's the whole "built not bought" thing that goes with that so I get it. I'm having fun bringing this fx35 back to life that I'm working on now on the channel and realizing how much I'm using it more than my car in my line of work so I may sell my G and go for either an Fx50 or Alpha Romeo Stelvio next year.
that's probably because it's hard to describe. Most sources call it "Soft Touch Plastic" The back side of the dash with all the clips etc are hard plastic along with the trim panels such as the events etc, but the soft touch portion seems to be a hodge podge polymer of plastic / vinyl that gives it a spongy kind of feel.
Hey bro first off thanks for taking the time to subscribe and leave a comment. Wow yea, Tally is right around the corner bro, I was just there getting my airbag recall taken care of on the FX35 I just picked up. As you may have seen on the channel I just picked up a project fx to revive, it's my 2nd one, love those vehicles. I've never driven the FX50 (they're a very rare species lol) but I know they're awesome vehicles as I love the fx35 platform and my G, I've had 7 infiniti vehicles over the years and the FX50 is probably one of the few I'd trade / sell my G37 for. Anyway, as far as the dash goes, I'm gonna reach out to the upholster as I've had someone recently say he's quoting a good bit higher than he did mine for so I'm gonna see what's up cause I'm gonna need to get the dash done on this fx35 as well. Please if anyone local see's this comment and can do something like this please let me know. I've been ready to get it over with for a long time.
It would take a good week or so. That's a long time to be without your car or to wait around on it if you're out of town so another option is to buy a used dash through him ahead of time (he has access to a salvage yard and can get them in good condition for $600) Then he can recover it in his shop ahead of time and when you bring your car in it's just a matter of him pulling your old dash and installing the newly wrapped one. (which is about a day and a half) Then you can sell your old dash on ebay or something and recoup some of your money. This is actually what I did to save time cause I didn't want to be without my car that long, but I didn't include this in the cost as it's not necessary if you have time to wait on it a week or so, but in your case that's another option. Even if you do factor in that cost and not sell your old dash after, it's a lot cheaper than a new dash through the dealer.

Is the original dash material vinyl or plastic. I have been told both?
that's probably because it's hard to describe. Most sources call it "Soft Touch Plastic" The back side of the dash with all the clips etc are hard plastic along with the trim panels such as the events etc, but the soft touch portion seems to be a hodge podge polymer of plastic / vinyl that gives it a spongy kind of feel.
Where is the shop located
Unlimited upholstery Panama City Florida info in video description. But see my PINNED comment as I believe he stopped doing them.
Awesome solution
my g37 has the same problem
Every G37 will develop this issue. Its not new, they used shitty material
Yoooo wassup bro new subscriber I'm in Tallahassee!!! I just got a fx50s im going to come down to get this done ASAP we should meet up and rip around
I'll report back here with what I find out, but lets definitely stay in touch as I'd love to meet up if you're in town. You can also hit me up on IG: @Gq37official
@@GQ37official thanks bro and yes man it was a hassle to get the fx took me about 3 months they were trying to put me in everything else and I have always been a Chevy man but yeah I've been converted over I've had the 50 for just a little over 3 months. And I definitely need to get this dash done it's not terrible but I recently drove down to Miami and the glare from the dash was killing me its that super sticky stuff going on with but I'll definitely stay in touch
@@NEMdaTruth305 yea man if it's that bad you might want to just get a dash mat cover in the meantime to buy you some time. That's what I did with my G until the cracks got really bad and I replaced the whole thing a year and a half later. I'm gonna be using my FX a lot this holiday season for gigs and getting the dash recovered will take it out of commission for a bit so I don't want to go without it until January so I got a dash cover until then. Here's one for yours rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fitm%2FWellvisors-Dash-Mat-Dashboard-Cover-For-Infiniti-09-17-FX35-FX37-FX50-QX70-Black%2F184117345892%3Ffits%3DModel%253AFX37%26epid%3D17036046130%26hash%3Ditem2ade3fbe64%3Ag%3A7akAAOSwjWRe4moZ&campid=5338680603&toolid=10001&customid=FX37 dash cover
May I ask where you bought the material?
I didn't. I took it to my local upholstery shop and they did everything.
YOOOOOOOOOO. I have been looking for a solution for my dash for over a year. I'm in the Orlando area. I need to find someone who can do this exact thing with my 2010 G37X. Please if anyone local see's this comment and can do something like this please let me know. I've been ready to get it over with for a long time.
Did you find someone? I'm in Orlando too
Guess we're all driving to Panama city 🙄 cause I'm in orlando also lol
did u get rid of the dash mat?
yes.
Dam thanks for the idea, My G37 dash is horrible
How long he took I'm in Tampa
Where did u get this done?
My local upholstery shop.
How much was the dash mat?
About $85. here's the link: rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?ff3=4&pub=5575585787&toolid=10001&campid=5338680603&customid=Leather+dash+cover+G37&mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fitm%2FLeather-Edition-Dashboard-Cover-For-Infiniti-G37-G37s-G25-G37-Coupe-G35-G35S-07%2F112312923773%3Ffits%3DModel%253AG37%26hash%3Ditem1a265f367d%3Ag%3A2SEAAOSwoqFd5xtV
