Oh yes, the motors of older trains such as 201 series sounded so good… In fact, in these scenes (9:27, 33:35) you can hear the current chopper, which sounds like a constant low-frequency buzz. It's the device responsible for motor speed control. You can't hear that buzzing sound in every cars though, as 9:27 shows (the sound disappears when you turn back), because one chopper is sufficient to control its own car + the adjacent motored car (8 motors in total!). Have you ever noticed that sound back then when you were commuting in these ? I'll add that, 201 series was (together with 203 series) a really special train among JNR/JR Group rolling stock in that they were the only ones to have this feature. That technology was quite revolutionary at that time. Although, even if the chopper had the advantage of decreasing energy consumption, it was more expensive to build and maintain than other control methods adopted in other series. From 10:00 onwards, the travel takes place in a 103 series set. Built in 1967 (as you said at 10:34), it had the classic resistor-control equipment. 103 or 201, I love their amazing roar so much !

These videos are cool, but I feel I am missing a lot of context and history. Visually, the 90s videos all seem the same compared to the present: People go to work, spend time with family, and use personal electronics to pass the time.
I might do that, but part of the concept is to just take people there in the images and sounds at the time. One of the problems with commentary is I can only do it in two languages, and whichever one I use, other language users get left out? Still, I might....
@@lylehsaxon Decades later, I don't think you could RECOLLECT much commentary that viewers aren't already considering by viewing and listening to the natural sound.

忘れかけていた風景を見ることができてとても嬉しいです。
いつも見慣れた電車にしても駅の風景にしても、いつも見ているので記録にしようと思いません。でも、後になってほんとうに見たいのは、ほんとうに懐かしいのは、日常なのだと思います。そんなことを気づいた素晴らしい動画です。ありがとうございました。
コメントありがとうございます。 当時の気持ちとして「記憶するなら、今だ!」と思った事と、ただ「撮り方うまくなりたいなら、沢山撮らないと...」のコンビで、カメラがボロボロなるまで使いました....

1986年から12年、環七高円寺高架あたりに住んでました。
高円寺駅南側の焼き鳥屋の前は、当時でも安いラーメン屋でした。
よくお世話になりました。
子供の頃のってた中央線。青梅線も103系が居た頃ですね。
103系は立川止まりで東京直通は201系が充当されてましたわ。

地元高円寺の懐かしい映像もあり三鷹より向こうは滅多に行かなかったけど高架前の中央線で駅のホームに花壇がある駅がどこか知りたくて動画を探していたらこの画像にもたどり着きました。高架前の映像が見られただけでも感動しました。三鷹より向こうの駅って何だかのどかで素敵だった。

@@howUlikemenow Well.... that depends on the video. For some videos I remember a lot of background details, and for some others, not so much.
