In this video David gives you an intro to using the MainStage 3/Logic Pro X Arpeggiator Midi FX. You'll learn how to use the built in presets, how to design arp patterns of your own using grid mode, and how to use the latch functionality.
Very helpful. I needed to use an arpeggiator to try and automate the common vamp used in reggae music. I watched till the end and realized the syncopated chords is what I need. I’ll only have to make a few adjustments. Very useful when I’m the only one on keys and need to keep a rhythm as well as play lead or solo lines. What I want to do is hold down a chord and have that same chord syncopated as if there’s a another keyboardist doing those syncopated vamps. Thanks a bunch !
I've spent a long time trying to figure out how to play multiple notes at once with the ARP on. Thanks to this video all I needed to do was press the chord button! Super helpful!
LegoMaster739 can you tell me where the chord button is? I’m trying to do the same thing but can’t find a video
@@ferny9179 In case you haven't found the answer yet, here is how you do that:
On the "Pattern" section, select "Grid".
Click the three music notes under the first bar,
You should now be able to play chords.
Great video, David. Thanks. The only improvement I can think of that would make it even better is how to set bpm for the arpeggiator. That's what I was actually trying to find out.
Hi! You can set BPM at the patch level and it will affect the arps. Select your patch, and then in the inspector under Attributes you can change tempo.
So helpful. Thanks for making a clearly explained video, David.
You're very welcome!
Thank you for taking time to explain this!
Very useful tutorial! Thanks David!
@Sunday Sounds
I have been looking for a way to set the custom note order without buying a plugin, happy to learn that Logic's arpeggiator (is the same plugin as for Mainstage) can do that! Though in the video at around 4:40 the arpeggiator actually did not follow the sequence you set :) The solution is having Latch mode on (in "Add"setting), lock open, then type the sequence (i.e. 1 2 1 3 1 1 3 1 ). Then klick the lock and disable Latch mode. Play a chord with 3 notes and listen to the result!
Wow! Thanks for the video, very helpful!
Super helpful! Thanks.
You're quite welcome! Thanks for watching.
Thanks🙏
Ok now I can go back and tweak the Christmas patches I just made and make them closer to the recording.
Have FUN! :D
Thanks for your video!
I have a question. I need to play an arpeggiator live without backingtrack.
Is there any way I could tap the BPM before using it?
Excellent video. Thank you!
I've tried generating several patterns and saving them. Then while playing, select between those patterns. What I find however is that whenever a pattern is selected, Arpeggiator stops and I have to start it up again.
Just wondering if you've come across the same issue and if, so found a workaround.
Thanks again.
.... Ciao!... I need to regolation the velocity of arp... I don't know to make it.. Thanks
thank you...
Great videos man. Why doesn't Mainstage save my arpeggios? I try to hit the play button after a certain amount of time and it's gone...
Hey man, I am currently using a chord trigger, arp, and then chord trigger to trigger off a particular melody. However sometimes the arps overlap and the melody goes out of sync. Is there any setting I can do on my arp settings to ensure theres no arp overlap when I play one note to another?
I’ve been trying for days to use this app to duplicate the “son of flynn’ apps from Tyron Legacy. Any advice? Especially how it copes with the 3 slightly difference sections? Great tutorial btw.
Hey guys, so I'm trying to figure out how to send tempo clock from Mainstage to my Drumbrute, so it can sync with my Arps. Any ideas? Thanks.
If you look at the Keyboard Tab in the Arp plugin and you set input snap to none, it won't try to match with the clock from MainStage and you can use any click source.
@@SundaySounds Thanks, I'll check it out.
hello no need to help me the arpaggio or it works for me, the program screen appears but it does not sound like it seems like it has no volume, it will be. Thanks
Hi, have you made sure to assign your hardware in layout mode?
Hey, awesome video! What's the best way for me to go about creating an arp pattern that is longer than 31 beats? That seems to be the limit in the MainStage arpeggiator. I want a pattern that goes up and down for 64 16th notes and then resets.
Hey Daniel, the arpeggiator will automatically loop, so you can have an arp hold out for as long as you would like.
Yes, what I mean is that I want it to loop after 64 beats; is there some way I can do that?
Not within the Arp plugin. A work around would be to change the BPM of your patch to half time, so that each bar would last twice as long.
how do you set the tempo of the arpeggiator?
The tempo is determined by the current tempo in MainStage which can be set at both the concert and patch level.
cool, thanks!
