I was in the audience for this. It was stunning. I love this piece but this particular performance knocked our socks off. The man next to me, who had never heard it before, whispered "Oh my god!" at the end. They have recorded it and I highly recommend.
Wow, extremely difficult piece remarkably performed by the choir ! i didn't know this musician at all , what a splendid discovery! thank you so much for sharing ! Tenebrae , you are all perfect as always ! Greetings from France . Véronique.
I have heard other choirs sing this spectacular and spiritual piece but this one is exceptional...the phrasing is perfect..it brings the majestic quality of the music and a lot more. Tenebrae and Nigel Short is the best version.
This is really incredible. The skill and stamina of the choir is only matched by the beauty of their delivery. The opening of the first movement with what I believe are scale shifts are just really well executed, and they resolve their clash so harmoniously and almost completely by the end of the first movement leaving me wishing for more, and greeted by the power of the melody and unison of the 2nd movement. The third movement gives me the chills, hallowed and haunting like an echo of the past from Gregorio Allegri's Miserere mei, Deus - Allegri. I've never studied music in depth but one only needs to hear this piece after having heard Tenebrae's Miserere mei to recognize the similarities. My favorite is the soft creshendo of unison about 11 minutes in and the beautiful sweeping melodies to conclude. So worth it... Your audience was absolutely spellbound as well they should be! BRAVO! One of my new favorite pieces!
I was lucky enough to sing this in a workshop recently - not an easy piece for amateur singers but really rewarding. Thank you for recording this beautiful performance!
They will perform among others "Mother and Child" and "The Lamb" by John Tavener and "And the Swallow" by Caroline Shaw in Zürich and Genève in January 2025. I'm so sorry I can't attend these concerts, but if you can, please do! 🙂
Really well done, thank you. MacMillan is highly challenging but highly rewarding. I sang his Cantos Sagrados many years ago, and while I would not want to repeat it, I am grateful for having had the opportunity.
Absolutely love this choir, so inspiring. I tried to see if the choir had ever done the Bach chorale -Bach BWV 244-3 Herzliebster Jesu, but I couldn't find it. I hope you might consider trying this one at some point.
This is just next level. What an absolutely stunning performance. Thank you! The ending of this piece always brings me to tears - and it certainly did this here.
Wonderful performance, but G. Allegri has no fear of losing his "Best Ever Setting of Psalm 50" award. Or he wouldn't have if he was still partaking in drawing breath!

Miserere mei, Deus: secundum magnam misericordiam tuam
Et secundum multitudinem miserationum tuarum, dele iniquitatem meam
Amplius lava me ab iniquitate mea: et a peccato meo munda me
Asperges me hysopo, et mundabor: lavabis me, et super nivem dealbabor
Auditui meo dabis gaudium et laetitiam: et exsultabunt ossa humiliata
Averte faciem tuam a peccatis meis: et omnes iniquitates meas dele
Cor mundum crea in me, Deus: et spiritum rectum innova in visceribus meis
Ne proiicias me a facie tua: et spiritum sanctum tuum ne auferas a me
Redde mihi laetitiam salutaris tui: et spiritu principali confirma me
