I've come to enjoy the right balance of silence in my own life too. It probably helps that I grew up in the pre-internet era, so I remember what life was like before I could be connected to 8 billion people 24/7/365. Thank you for making this!
The point of getting reacquainted with silence really hit home for me.
I used to go to morning runs with music on. Then I read a quote by someone, "If u r listening to music for that one hour run and afterwards jumping into work, dude when are you alone with your thoughts."
I stopped putting on earphones for my runs and its been illuminating.
That’s awesome!
Love this topic- I’ve been doing the same and having similar positive mental health results. I would love to watch a no-buy video as well!
Glad you’ve also been able to detox 🧡
The no-buy year and digital detoxing sounds really cool. I'd definitely be interested if you decided to make videos on these topics.
The doom scrolling can be so real outside of being able to not compulsively spend as much. That's awesome that the app has helped you transform your digital habits to be much more mindful, that's awesome.
I need you to do the news like you covered Wheel of Time. The antics of Cliff and Hollister got me through that disaster!
Personally, I'd be interested in your take on a 'no buy year' in regards to books
I already don’t buy very many books actually, I mainly only buy books if it’s a super special limited edition of something I love or if I can’t get it in time from the library and I need to read it by a certain deadline
I watched something once that used an analogy of an animal in a cage with TV screens playing and noise blasting all day, and that we’d consider this abusive. It was such a simple analogy but opened my eyes to the potential harm of having constant auditory stimulation. Since then I have also learnt to embrace the silence. Now, when I reach for my headphones to listen to something I ask myself “do I REALLY want to actively engage with the book/podcast/music or am I just putting it on in the background out of habit?” And if it’s the latter, I don’t do it.
I think like anything else, the key to digital detox is breaking habits and making new ones. I came off most socials in 2020 during the pandemic and whilst it was a struggle initially, now it’s my new normal.
Good luck to anyone who is starting their digital detox journey!
Everything feels so bad right now. That’s why I clicked. 😅 I’ve had a couple of times in my adult life when my phone broke and I had to do a cheap flip phone replacement and had a forced long term digital detox. But I hate silence, it feels like my thoughts always dive into an anxiety spiral rather than peace.
Thank you for this video, I'll be trying out the app for sure! I'd also love a no/low-buy video. I find myself tired of spending money and buying things I think I need. I'm trying to find ways to break the cycle that will work for me.
What a beautiful video. The power of silence...it calls to me but I have inevitably failed until now.
It is time to reduce the dependence and try again.
Wish you the very best.
Hope you succeed!
I totally agree the point you were making around 22:00. I definitely think you can't go from 100 to 0 all at once. Thinking of it as a process and less an instant switch has helped me too.
That's such an interesting video. I'm definitely going to try minimizing my Instagram time from now. And maybe commute to work without listening to music.
Great video! I largely quit online media quite a while ago (except your channel of course 😉) and am much happier for it. And yes, silence is absolutely fuel for the soul.
My vote would definitely be for you to do more vids like this!
I’m honored to make the cut 🧡
I have no digital addiction but shopping - yes. Now I fill my trolley with whatever I want & put 99% back before I leave - as it was mostly crap anyway .And this makes me feel great.
I agree with the screen-less days. I've noticed that the day when I don't watch screens I sleep so much better, and wake up better rested.
Loved this video, the digital addiction is a big problem for me, thanks for the tips!
Hope they help!
Ohhh thank you for this! Your discussion and strategies are so timely for how I’ve been feeling lately. I’m going to give that app a try!
Hope it helps!
Great video Liene! Similar to Mara’s knitting videos of late, i didn’t know i needed it until i saw it lol - have a great day :)
Really enjoyed this video topic. Well presented.
Not that interested in a no- buy. Would generally prefer to stick with book content. Unless you have some no-buy for books. (Ha!)
Also, I ran across a 4 yr old video of yours on favorite books. I’d be interested in how your list may have changed.
Screenbreaks are Good for you....
Glad you can take some 💟✝️🛐💖
Ok this is so needed for me right now!!! Had never heard of that app and was considering buying one of those "brick" things. Will have to look into this. However the thought of driving in silence seems like a step too far for me lol. Also yes I would love a no buy video!
Would love to see your take on a no-buy year!
I definitely need to implement some of these tips. I go camping every summer where there is no service and it is such a nice change.
You don’t even realize how constant the noise is until it’s gone
Loved this video and thank you for sharing your tips. I also had a toxic relationship to Instragram with news and political stuff and had to detox around 2020, and now I’m kind of there again with a lot of technology in general. Very much appreciated your thoughts about sitting in silence because I struggle with that 😅
Hope it helps you too!
I detoxed in 2020. Been happier ever sense. 😊
Paris is good. Went for a couple weeks last year.
Wait!! Where is the link for Lienne's Library Tshirts and coffee mugs?? I need them. Great off topic video that is completely relative to almost everyone. Very informative and very helpful. Let go be Amish!!
More time outdoor reading in a physical book.
Great video! I think taking time to be alone with your thoughts is really important, both for finding peace and also to be able to better process your own emotions.
There is a book I'd highly recommend called Stolen Focus, by Johann Hari. It tackles these topics on both a societal and personal level and it definitely made me change some of my habits.
On 4:00, I had no clue people were making "spoil yourself to oblivion, it's okay," posts lmao. The people probably making that are probably more than fine financially. I hope others don't fall into that trap.
Coincidentally, doing a screen detox will make it more likely that you’ll do things like read. So it’s not as off topic for your channel as you might think. 👍
True!
My digital detox - sleeping. 😅
I will try this, but I really want to just dump meta products.
I’ve just started doing this with Instagram as well. I did the same thing of using screen zen and deleting the app from my home screen.
I was just finding that my algorithm was so full of negativity and I just was feeling like I was constantly overwhelmed by it. Honestly I might just start like watching the news so I have a controlled time where I find out about what’s going on in the world but it’s not just a constant stream of all the horrible things that are happening 🙄
What?
You realise that this will be considered heresy in Trump’s tech bro oligarchy.
You should do a political commentary detox, imo.
