I recall that Stagg Bowl. I was rooting for Ithaca, the undefeated #1 ranked team and defending national champions. The Bombers fumbled the ball away in their first three possessions, giving up a touchdown each time.\. They struggled to get going but played the second and third period roughly equal but gave up another score just before halftime. The third quarter was scoreless. The fourth quarter was 0-35 and Dayton really rolled up the score in a game they only need to win by a point to be national champions. I recall them calling time outs so they could score some more. I seem to recall an onside kick but that might be my memory playing tricks on me. They had a shot of the Dayton coach shouting at his men. I wondered "What wrong with this guy?" When he later killed himself after so much success, I wondered if that fourth quarter somehow had some relation to his demise. From the information in this video, I doubt that it did. It's a very sad story and I'm sorry he had all these problems. I just wondered why they had to keep scoring so much against a beaten team back in 1980.
Thank you. I played for Coach Carter at Hanover College for his first four years there. One hell of a coach.❤
This is a true tragedy, so sad.
That man changed my life forever…. ❤
