Thanks for this to the point overview. How does the macOS system preferences | Sharing | Screen Sharing + Vnc Viewer client remote macOS desktop connection story differ from the Sharing | Remote Management | All Users | Observe + Control experience?
At 1:34 you mentioned that you are "on the same network." What would I have to do if on a different network? Does it matter? I have travel plans, and will need access to my home iMac. Please let me know!
What are some problems with connecting a MacBook VDI through a Windows laptop? Especially if I'm trying to access "Sketch" software and need to work on it through a Windows laptop. Since some key functionality may vary from Windows to Macbook.
I'm thinking of connecting to a Mac over an internet connection (I'm okay with setting up the VPN server & dynamic DNS account). The upload speed at the 'server' end is around 18mbps and the download speed at the 'client' end will be about 50mbps. With that in mind, is accessing screen sharing via a VNC client going to be 'laggy'?
This is working for me, but it is VERY slow. Going from a pc to any other pc using Microsoft Remote Desktop is nice and snappy. Accessing my Mac from a PC using VNC is painfully slow. The changes will appear on my local mac very quickly, but the screen redraw on my remote machine is about 5 seconds delayed. I can us Jump Desktop and it is very snappy. I realize they are using a different protocol (fluid), versus VNC or RDM. I am trying to get a way to work from home using a WIndows machine to control my Mac at work over my VPN tunnel. This works great to other windows machines on my network, but my Mac and VNC is too slow. I am trying to avoid the $8 monthly charge for Jump Desktop. Any ideas?
I Did the same but didn't work. I Tried Rebooting, Disabling firewall on both computers, Disabling Antivirus Protection, Downloading Free Remote Access Software, and tried to get help for VNC Failed to connect server. Can you please Reply I Can't even get this to work. What am I doing wrong? am I using the wrong server?
OK. When I turn on the button,, I do NOT see an IP address. All I see is vnp:// the name I've given to my Macbook Pro. As I don't want to risk messing things up, so I thought I'd better check first. Can I use this instead of an IP address? One other point, I tried to install UltraVCN on my Windows 10 PC and I got an message from my OS.
Yes, you can use your IP address. Are you using the same user account to are you're using to access the mac as you logon to the mac? The error message is telling you it doesn't recognize your credentials.
AS I explained above, I don't see an IP address when I follow the instructions given in the video. I downloaded UltraVCN but it would not install. I don't understand what you mean when you say my OS 'did not recognize my credentials'.
Thank you Is there any way to adjust the viewing size of my VNC Viewer? It is not very large and it makes it hard to read the desktop of my MacBook Pro Thanks to anyone who can respond
Hi Ronald, what software do you use to screen recording (sorry if I repeat the same question 100 people have asked you so far, I couldn't find it in any of your videos)
Not necessarily, if you already have previous access to destination network from the outside such as using a remote-access VPN or site-to-site VPN you can do the same thing.
Yes, you would setup an smb share on your mac. Then you can access that share. You will still need macOS credentials to access that share and read and write permissions to the share.
Hi Ronnie! Thank you for this video. I can connect to my client's pc but UNable to navigate / work on her mac. The cursor is moving on my end but nothing happens on my client pc (mac). Thank you.
You may have to take a look at your settings in the VNC client to determine who maintains control of the cursor. So I cannot say for certain this is getting messed up.
i have no idea about mac os and my dad just purchased a MacBook pro so can I access my windows 10 pc from mac os and even transfer files and vice versa(access mac from windows which is possible) he sometimes need to access the desktop but neither he nor me knows so if anyone can help me or share a link it would mean a lot thanks in prior and yeah should not be on same network he needs to access from his office to home one so....
This is only part of that process. You would need to establish a VPN connection across the internet from one place to another. Then you can use this or a similar technique to gain remote access. So that is more than what we covered in the video.
The server is the IP address of the mac. The port is the equivalent port representing VNC. I simply used vnc://10.0.11.126..which the VNC client picked up. When you say it didn't work? I'm not sure what you actually mean...did you get an error message? are you using the password for your mac? Can you ping the windows computer from your mac and vice versa? So a myriad of possibilities.
Thanks for sharing. Since I am on two different subnets, this will not work. I might have to get a USB C to RJ45 adapter for my MBA. Then both computers will be on the same network and this should work...
@@ACILearning I ended up making my network more secure (had to move where my Google Router was in the topology of the Network), and now VNC works like a charm. Thanks again.

Instead of just asking me for the vnc password , it also wanted a username so it would not work. Might be just a bad client (realvnc). Will try another
Ultravnc may not be completely safe. Sophos didn't find any malware but it was just by virus total with 1 engine declaring it was malware. All other engines declaring it undetected. So there are other programs out there like tightVNC that could be used to be safer.

After watching tens of videos, yours is the one that actually got me connected in the simplest way I could imagine. Thank you!
My only question is, is this only works on the same network?
Thank you. Just picked up a Mac Mini to use headless and this was exactly what I needed
From one Ron to another, good job and thank you!
Thanks, Ron! Glad we could help.
Thanks for the information. How would you adapt this to work but from a different network (via internt)?

is this only for pcs on the same local network or does it work accross the internet??

I would setup a VPN to your home from your computer. or use a paid product like splashtop.
Teamviever or splashtop remote
Use Anydesk

If your Mac has multiple monitors, VNC will display them all together. Is there a way to just display one of the monitors on the Windows client?
What do you do if you're not on the same network or in the same home? I can't seem to get it to work?
I'm wondering the same thing.

Does this work if ur Mac system is located somewhere else with a diffirent Network?
Yes, it works across the internet if you have a VPN setup to access a different network previously setup. No, if you do not.
Hi Ronald, what software do you use to screen recording (sorry if I repeat the same question 100 people have asked you so far, I couldn't find it in any of your videos)
We actually don't use a software, instead, we have a BlackMagic switcher in our studio that allows us to receive and record Ronnie's computer feed!
do we need to be on the same network?

It shouldn't interfere with it at all.
Awesome man, thanks for making this :D
You're very welcome - Thanks for watching!
Would you be able to hear audio through this connection?
I'm not sure. I don't really ever do that. If it is there would be a setting in the VNC client that allows it to work that way.
alright good stuff. now how do I do this across the internet because I'm sick of going building to building.
