Thank you for this awesome in depth review! This is my favorite pedal I’ve ever had so far... and I’ve got a good collection. It’s so useful and so inspiring. I didn’t know the bit about panning the heads in stereo! Thanks so much!
Thanks for getting deeper than most reviewers 🍻, I was looking for a delay and this one seems to be on the tweakable side, always good to have options, even if the price is high, its worth it cause it has lot more than the other brands in terms of replay value 😉🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻
It was so hard of a choice for me on what Strymon delay pedal I wanted. It started with the Dig, then Timeline, then brig or brigadier, then El Cap, then Deco. Until I checked into this one in depth. It has everything I need and sounds great.
Hi I have bought this pedal few years ago and lost all my cable, I used my guitar cable to connect with the pedal ,amp and guitar how it doesn’t work. I think I am missing something, do you know what sorts of cable do I need to make it work? Thanks.
Is it a case of never going back? I’m just about to set up a stereo type A/B/Y with a couple of loops. Would love to tap into stereo and somehow I corporate a drum machine, looper pedal to make what is in essence a sketch that I could come back to and fledge it out.
Hey Tri Pedals, I was wondering is the Mechanics & Wear knobs also function if the Time knob and the playback head is set to the shortest delay possible & no Repeats, with the Echo Level 100% wet, in order to obtain a chorus / vibrato effect ? Kind of a strange question but thats what i'm searching to know as its possible on the El Capistan with Wow & Flutter knob ! Thanks
Not strange at all, we always want to get the most out of our pedals :) You can't get strict vibrato because there is no mix control. Only an echo level, so any setting you dial in will be some amount of chorus. But yes, if you set repeats to minimum, delay head to 1, and tap in a quick tempo you can do that. I wouldn't consider it a very traditional chorus though.

two questions pretty please. first: is it possible to make it fully wet, with no input signal on the output? second: is there any magic way to make low-cut work as high-cut?
This might be a bit late, but the wear knob basically works like a high cut. It probably changes some other frequencies too but in practice it does almost exactly what you would expect a high cut to do.
So are you running two amps for stereo? One dry and one wet or? I’m using an EVH 5150 III 50 watt head EL 34 version. I was thinking about getting the 50 watt 6L6 version used (since it’s cheaper) just to run it wet for stereo.
I have several amps, Fender/Vox that I'll run in various combinations for stereo. I've not done a wet/dry setup previous, but they also sound glorious.
Tri Pedal Reviews So you’re running into the front of 2 different amps? The only other amp I have right now is a 15 watt Laney Ironheart, I don’t think it’d match up good with the EVH if I ran it through the front but I might give it a try. I could be totally wrong.
Lots of features. But I’m not a fan of the bright digital sheen that most all Strymon pedals have (can dull it a lot on the El Cap using Tape Age, I think?). I do envy the ability to pan the Playback Heads separately (and therefore the stereo outs)… that is the one feature I want to try this pedal for … I don’t care about another digital-sounding reverb and so-so looper … improve the preamp/tone of the pedal, and maybe the ability to control Tape Age (Drum Age) like on the El Cap … Tone is everything; bells & whistles (lots of features) can’t make up for bright digital tone … 😕
I just bought the Strymon Volante. I plug it directly in my Mackie mixer (no other pedal or effect involved) the stereo is wide and deep, awesome! Unfortunately, in the sos mode the magic disappear: mono only when it plays back in loop. I will keep it anyway because I really love de "degradation" loop. Sadly on the Strymon page there is no information about mono when using sos mode.
Absolutely killer pedal review
Great sounding tape delay
Hats off to strymon

Part 2 is now up. Link in the description. It goes over examples of getting clear repeats VS wash & also playing with some distortion.
RUclips must be listening, I just had this song playing from SP, then I see this Volante video on the recommended vids on the right, weird!
Oh and what a song. This person has primo taste. I want him in my band.

Can you make a second video with some distortion fuzz not just clean
Yes. I plan on making a second video with some dirt as well as playing some more percussive passages.
Excellent demo! Question: when you switch to sound on sound mode it seems to go from stereo to mono? Does SOS only mono? Thx!
I'm pretty sure it's still stereo. I may have re-centered the heads at some point. I'll test this and reply back.
Thx!

not a big fan of chorus, come on man
Haha, I've found a couple I like over the years, but not many :)
Tri Pedal Reviews I’m not a huge fan either but I do use my Corona Chorus for some clean parts where I’m picking and it makes it sound much more full.
The chewy, old analog ones can sound great … for the right passages/song … 😏
