I absolutely second that like, I loved the whole video but this just made it perfect PS I have never seen a shaved persian cat (?) before and it made my day
Some have a dog! No matter what I am doing on the floor, I have a little wiggle butt under, in front of, or beside me trying to get a belly rub or give me kisses. Just trying to exercise or do yoga is impossible ! 😂
Thank you! The mis-matched back panel would have happened in the past, too. You’re not the first ‘working class woman’ who was a bit short on yardage! I sincerely hope this dress has pockets, too. One can face a shorted hem, and get creative with sleeves, but pockets are a must! We shall see...I’m eagerly looking forward to part two.
The look of pure joy on your face when you were trying it on at the end was priceless, I'm so pleased all your thinking and hard work rewarded you so, plus your cat is too cute!
I love how each of your videos is not just "this is how I made a thing" and they are more like "here's the story of how I made a thing." I look forward to part 2!
what beautiful filmmaking! the little quiet shots are so nice aaaaa my cats love to sit on my fabric and patterns as well, means i have to spend a ton of time picking black hair off all my sewing and embroidery haha
Lol, yes! My cat is a very silvery grey, and she leaves her little silver calling cards ALL over my projects. I'm hand-sewing slippers right now, and actually just spotted a whisker on the lining...
Ì'm sure cats would have been patternweights all though history and the vikings spread them around so probably historically accurate for many dresses of the time, haha. My mother always had our cats on her sewing too, even with a loud sewing machine and if I knit anything or do a few stitches my cats find me and want on it.
My cat used to be so fascinating by my knitting. She used to sit there and watch with so so much intent. But never ever swiped at it despite being very clearly super tempted.... She just knew that these funny balls and --stings-- strings weren't for her, I guess😅 such a smart girl. 😻
@@leonamay8776 haha, very civilized! My cats don't know the word no. I'd often be knitting and then get a wet strand or a broken and wet one because somehow Grey had caught and chewed it. I could only give my scarves to my brother, too much cat DNA in the things, haha. She just really enjoys being on or around me when I do it, I was sewing up a hole next to her on a blanket she was laying on and she started purring as if I was doing the fun thing just for her, haha.
"nej nej nej nej nej nej nej" ... moves cat ... cat proceeds to walk and lounge on paper again... Elin looks at cat and thinks: What did you not understand when I said: "NEJ!!!" This is the best beginning of a video that I've ever seen on RUclips.. XD
I suppose it depends on where you live and how you were taught. As I watched her put it in I was thinking, ok, a facing. Lol. It’s nice to see a young person learning about the past. So many youngsters don’t have a clue about sewing. I’m glad I taught my daughter how to sew. 😊❤️
When I see how the bodice is shaped with the cut out triangle, I think why on earth are modern patterns not like that? I would find that method so much easier than darts under the bust. I really enjoy your videos, thank you. Cat is great too, brings back fond memories of my own cats, they all love sewing obviously. 😀
I’m betting that any museum would love to give you a private viewing of their textiles. A young lady interested in historical textiles would probably thrill them!
I love the creative way you solve problems. Can't find fabric in the colour you want? Dye it. Cat shedding it's fur on everything? Give it a shave. lol Very entertaining videos, a pure delight to watch. :)
Hahahahahah what a lovely comment, I laughed straight out😂I'm happy you liked the video! And yes, Svea got herself a little shave, but that was in april, she's equally as fluffy again😁
Amature tip: if you really hate the stitching on the front cover it with trim. Lace or ribbons, whatever is your poison of choice. They cover a multitude of sewing sins. (Also your great and I am now subscribed!)
The cinematography of your videos are beautiful, you're definitely right up there with Bernadette Banner in my mind for beautiful historical sewing videos ❤️
Wow! What a perfect fitting! It really hit me in the face, every time you are doing this, why I am not capable of bringing my sewing projects to only a similar grade of fitting too? It looks so easy if you are doing this and in fact - at least fo me - it is sooooo hard! A pleasure to watch! And I know, every one is saying this, so you know it... but your way of telling the story of your journey, your way of filming, cutting and composing with the music, is absolutely beautiful and relaxing. Can't wait for part 2. ^^
I think the reason you didn't find anything about the bodice "unterlöpp" is that it's not a standard way of making something, so there is no specific word for it. Translation-wise, it sounds like "underlap" which is the opposite/inverse to "overlap". The method itself is a variation of a button placket.
I was thinking under-lap too, but I could not for the life of me imagine how it related to the eyes/bars until I saw it. And I love the result! It is such a strong and neat-looking way of securing them!
Ohhhh yay I’ve been waiting for another of your videos. Please, may I ask, what camera/microphone do you use? I am looking to start doing my own videos and your cinematography is so beautiful.
Oh my gosh, girl. Your videos are absolutely incredible. I am a student and historical interpretor for an 1805 Spanish village in Florida, but I've always been fascinated with medieval Europe and literally cannot stop rewatching all your videos! You've definitely inspired me to try my hand at making some of my own costumes for work -- I'll be attempting that in the coming weeks! Thanks for another amazing upload!
Kind, courageous, bold, well-spoken, beautiful, funny, and talented... You are the sewing role model I’ve always wanted. Please never stop being you, Elin. ❤️❤️❤️
Cats, nature scenes, sewing by hand...some of my favorite things all in one video😽💕. Great project. I do like that working class garments are starting to get more attention in the historical sewing community. I enjoy your process of thinking about things and working out solutions. Now to watch part 2!
I feel like all cats have a book of secrets regarding their owners and one rule is that if there is a sewing pattern on the ground, they must lay on it! All of my cats do that! Side note- your cat is GORGEOUS! What beautiful face markings!
I am in love with your film making!! Also I think it's really cool that you show the whole process without sugar coating, and how you are so open about your own learning curve. Not only is it refreshing, but it also feels very warm; you made me realize that I can sew, which is so nice and inspiring! Can't wait for part two! :D
At least your cat is just lying on patterns. Mine would try to help me cut them out by putting her paws right under scissors blade 😅 As always, the process of dying the fabric looks like magic - and has amazing results!
Hahaha yes my bird loves to help in a way like that too! He will pull out all the pins he can, even before I've sown the things together xD He also loves pulling the thread in my needle, even if that means pulling the thread out of the needle, hahaha
Hi Elin! A month ago i found one of your videos on RUclips and i directly fall in love with your art to sew such beautiful clothes. (Sorry for my english, I'm german) I have watched all your videos and now I'm so happy, that you released a new one! You're so inspiring for me, because I'm a beginner in sewing. Thanks for the wonderful videos (Every time I love the music!!). Lovely Wishes, Rebecca
I'm a simple human. I see a video in my recommended feed with a cat lying on patterns, I click. The production quality of this whole video is FANTASTIC and I giggled so hard every time the music stopped because cat shenanigans. Definitely subscribing!
Love your sailor top and the interior of your home! Your video, camera angles, lighting are simply impeccable. You’re not only a beautiful seamstress but a wonderful filmmaker as well! So talented.
Loved it! On my dad's side, our family is from Sweden, I think they left in the mid-19th century so this is fun to see. Supposedly if you go back however many generations our family's house is in a museum in Sweden. I'd like to visit it someday. But is that the Swedish equivalent of Americans saying "my family is from Scotland, we have a castle there"?
When I was sewing for my kids, it was a real mess... I had one dog, a miniature rabbit, 5 cats et 3 kids... ouf! It was a busy floor, let me tell you 😂
I really enjoyed this, the way you showed or talked about the whole process from trying to find a Swedish pattern, to find the fabric, dying the fabric, all that hand stitching, it was incredible! And OH BOY the moment when the fabric pattern lined in along one seam, but not the other!! I felt that frustration! awesome vid
I got so excited when I saw your video in my feed, I really had to keep myself from watching it while at work. Love seeing your cinematography develop and am thrilled to see your cat make so many appearances. I can not do patterning on the floor anymore because both of my cats see it as an invitation to zoom across it at mach speed, shredding whatever is beneath their tiny evil feet in the process.
What a beautiful and sweet cat. I love them when they are annoying. It is so cute when they want to make whatever you're involved in there personal space. Like the computer keys. Like the cutting of the fabric. Anything that seems to take presdence over them. They know who rules.
You have a wonderful presence and your your passion really flows out of the screen! Considering how young you are, I wish I had been as engaged as you on the stuff I enjoyed back then!! I can't wait to see part 2!
This is beautiful! Your work on the dress and the way you make your videos! It's so satisfying to watch! Way to go, girl! 🙌🏻 Looking forward to see part two! 🤩
When you talked about your difficultys finding the right fabric, I felt that. I think I looked over half a year for mine. And found it at an old ladys store in the basement. And it was actually not that expensive either, I was so happy.
This was truly a joy to watch🥰 you’re doing such an amazing job, and I can’t wait to see the rest! Also, the cat laying on the patterns is such a mood🤣
You’re doing such a great job!! I love 1840s & 1850s every day dress. Once you make one, they get easier and easier. Nordiska Museet has great extant garments. One day, I’d love to make some of the pieces from Vastergotland, where my dad’s side of the family immigrated from during the mid-19th century.
This is sooo cute and so perfect omg I looooooooove it so much! It just gave me so much insight into what working class women would've worn in the period and it's really interesting!!! Really really good, keep it up!!!
Aah I guess I know what an "underlåt" is (if it is spelt this way...). I think it is the Swedish equivalent to the German "Untertritt" which means button stand!
@@elizabethsommer7248 That's actually not a facing it's a button placket (no idea why it's called that I blame the French), the fabric she added to the first side is more of a facing. I think that it is called that because you 'face' the pieces together and then flip it over to the inside. Typically facings are used when you don't want to do a full lining but need to finish up the ends and hemming won't do. Facings are sort of equivalent to bias binding in modern sewing.
Beautiful cat... mine was doing that all the time too💞 Miss her so much... Is it a he or a she??? And with an inspector like this, how can you not succeed 😂😂 Soo looking forward to see the second video... the body of this dress is very beautiful... kudos... well done 💜💜
New to your channel, found it from the thumbnail of this dress and had to click. I clicked subscribe when I hit the section of you editing the funny music with your fluffy kitty. Sewing and cats and humor... SOLD!
Oh, huzzah! Your dress looks wonderful so far. I just graduated high school and have been spending my summer figuring out how to make an 1840s work dress, and since I've never sewn a shirt or dress before (only skirts and linens), it's been a challenge! Also, much like your Svea, my Beastie LOVES to sleep on patterns, lol. I'm very eagerly awaiting the next part of the video!! ( ◜‿◝ )♡
It's possible that the reason you didn't find the fabric you were looking for (at least online) is that the pattern you were seeking is called tartan or plaid rather than checked. Checked is almost exclusively squares, while the pattern you described is often called tartan, which is very common in wool or wool blend fabrics. Regardless, you did a wonderful job with the materials you had!
Such a nice video editing and music!! Btw you have a very very beautiful house, with so many old details that are very fascinating! Cannot wait for the second part and i hope that one day i will have the courage to sew a medieval dress for me! kisses from north Italy :)
Cats and any form of work that takes your attention from them is the enemy and must be conquered by said cats ultimate attack: cuteness overload. Awesome work on both the dress and editing choices. The music montage pauses for cat interruptions was cool
Oh the cat, my goodness I can relate so much. Only mine is a kitten and a short hair but also a tortoise color and she doesn't just lay down no no no she needs to attack the pencil ruining my patterns 😅😹😹😹
I can't wait for the end result! It looks Soo beautiful for "just" a middle or lower class dress and the fact you all sew it by hand and your stitching looks perfect! It is going to be beautiful all together! I can't, for the life of me, work with checkered patterns.. 😓 They confuse me and I absolutely get frustrated with them! So, that you had one part completely matched, with this tiny bit of fabric.. WOW! 👊👌 And the proud look on your face on the end... glowing with joy.. Absolutely LOVING this! 😊 You can for sure be proud of yourself for even figuring out that "underlött" (?? hope I spelled it rightly.. ) So, what I already said.. can't wait to see the end result 🤗 And yeah.. cats and patterns.. They think they are one and belong together 😁 It must feel very nicely to lay done on and preferably even roll on it to crinkle it totally and when you don't watch a second.. put their nails in it to scratch it to pieces 😓😕 but I can't stay mad at the cat 🤗😁
I'm SO IMPRESSED with all of this! The dress looks great so far! Just found your channel and I couldn't be happier to find another Swede who's into making historical clothing! Can't wait for the next part!!
oh my god i love you! This was edited beautifully, you have a precious cat (who even cameos with a haircut), you care so much for keeping it all within your couture, your calm and chipper, and that happiness on your face at the end! ugh this was great haha. If i knew how to sew i would probably fill my free time with these sorts of projects too
Literally tears in my eyes when you tried it on, it’s amazing! Beautiful construction and the color is so complimentary to you. The closure was crazy, I would not have guessed it went on like that, great job figuring that out
My cat does that whenever we wrap gifts. -_- I wonder if it is the crinkling? lolol I always feel that way too! When editing I'm always like, "Did I really need to say that? Who cares?" lololol Glad to know I'm not the only one who does that. xD It looks sooooo good though! I am excited to see how it comes together completely.
@Mark and Marie - I have a cat who INSISTS on helping me fold laundry by jumping into the middle of the basket or by scrambling onto the items I am trying to neatly fold and "chases" the fabric. Sure, it takes me longer to get the folding done, but it's fun having such a happy little helper.
What a lovely video, amazing cinematography and craft. I'm in love with your cat. Btw I think the word you were looking for is modesty panel. It ensure that you can't see the shift underneath the dress in case the hooks and eyes are gaping at the front.
Your videos really make me happy. Thanks for all the instructions! :) Greetings from Northern Germany! My group does live action role play, but very low fantasy. We play a little royal household in the 14th century that's run out of money. My friend who plays the lady and me (her maidservant) got a lot of inspiration from your videos!
Great video, but you may want to look up the difference in the terms ‘check’ and ‘plaid’. It’s Scottish ‘plaids’ not Scottish ‘checks’. Just like the blue dress you made is a plaid. 😊
Thank you so much for taking us with you on this sewing adventure! I really enjoyed seeing the bodice start to come to life and I cannot wait for Part 2! New sub here. Best wishes from Down Under🇦🇺👗👒👠😎
Your videos are so encouraging to me! I've been avoiding "real sewing" because I'm intimidated by patterns and instructions, but when I see you simply drape fabric on and trim it to fit, I feel like "Oh, I can do that! That makes sense!" By the way, it might be weird of me, but I like hearing you speak Swedish even if it's just to scold Svea :)
I’ve learned very quickly that if I put a folded pattern & fabric on my table next to the pattern I’m actually using, my cat is usually happy to curl up there next to my sewing box rather than napping on my fabric (although she also does that, so it’s like a 50/50 chance). Give them lots of pats for us!
I really enjoyed watching this! You have such a lovely personality and pleasing aesthetic the cinematography is breathtaking and watching you work was a delight.
When you paused the music every time you had to pause and take your cat off the pattern 😆😆😆 to that's the kind of subtle comedic timing I'm here for!
Hahahahahah I'm glad it's appreachiated!
@@elinabrahamsson9442 That made me laugh out loud, every single time! :D I don't usually do that when watching RUclips.. Just smile..

I think that word you didn't recognize is what Bernadette Banner calls a "modesty panel" in English.
I agree. My other guess would have been underlap
My thought was facing.

A rainy day AND a new video! I feel blessed. It's coming out sooo well, I can't wait for the next part. That cat is all FLOOF 10/10
Oh how interesting! It would be lovely if you did!😀
Elin, I will never get over how good your cinematography is 😍
This is the perfect break from reality at the moment. I’ve been looking forward to the making of this dress!!!
I’m hemming a skirt as I watch this, which my cat has decided to sit on top of. They make very good assistants 😂
The cinematography in this video is beautiful! keep making these wonderful videos! xx
Can’t wait for the rest! You’re so much fun to watch. Thank you for taking us with you through this project.
Oh, do try to recreate a dress from one of the Freja fashion plates. It's of Swedish origin and has been around from the 1870's on, I think.
The English word is facing. Not sure why, I'm not a language historian. Buttonstand has a more obvious bearing on the matter.
@@Codeexcited oh ok. I do sew my own clothes, but I've obviously not heard or read all the terms.
Beautiful cat... mine was doing that all the time too💞 Miss her so much... Is it a he or a she??? And with an inspector like this, how can you not succeed 😂😂 Soo looking forward to see the second video... the body of this dress is very beautiful... kudos... well done 💜💜
Thank you! It's a she!😊
@@elinabrahamsson9442 She is soooo cute 💞💞
The music montage pauses for cat interruptions was cool
your cat is GORGEOUS and made me laugh every time
Oh the cat, my goodness I can relate so much. Only mine is a kitten and a short hair but also a tortoise color and she doesn't just lay down no no no she needs to attack the pencil ruining my patterns 😅😹😹😹
I’m so excited for this video!!
Also. Hej! from a fellow Swede! 🇸🇪
"Facing" your "in folding" is a facing in English.
Reminds me of Bernadette when she started.
Banner, if you're interested...
WOW! 👊👌
And the proud look on your face on the end... glowing with joy.. Absolutely LOVING this! 😊
You can for sure be proud of yourself for even figuring out that "underlött" (?? hope I spelled it rightly.. )
So, what I already said.. can't wait to see the end result 🤗
And yeah.. cats and patterns.. They think they are one and belong together 😁
It must feel very nicely to lay done on and preferably even roll on it to crinkle it totally and when you don't watch a second.. put their nails in it to scratch it to pieces 😓😕 but I can't stay mad at the cat 🤗😁
If i knew how to sew i would probably fill my free time with these sorts of projects too
I love the decor in your home! That wallpaper and wainscoting is amazing
This was really lovely. I just discovered your channel. Thank you!
I'm so proud of your work. I love being able to see by hand instead of by machine, it's so calming. Your patience at your young age is impressive.
Come for the cool historical sewing, stay for hilarious cat content. 😉 Excellent video! Thanks for sharing your struggles!
This is lovely! I adore your filming and editing style, your creativity and your very earnest presentation. I can’t wait to see the next video.
A cute cat, historical sewing projects, calming music and cinematography.. well I guess I gonna stay here! Subscribed. :-)
Elin's basting is more even than my embroidery
Literally tears in my eyes when you tried it on, it’s amazing! Beautiful construction and the color is so complimentary to you. The closure was crazy, I would not have guessed it went on like that, great job figuring that out
The editing adds so much to the mesmerizing process! Instant subscription, can't wait for part 2.
My cat does that whenever we wrap gifts. -_- I wonder if it is the crinkling? lolol
I always feel that way too! When editing I'm always like, "Did I really need to say that? Who cares?" lololol Glad to know I'm not the only one who does that. xD
It looks sooooo good though!
Your cinematography is amazing - subscribed for more great makes. Thank you for the video!
I loved your happiness at finishing the bodice. Great job, it looks amazing!!
Where do you get the music thats playing in the background from? I would love to know, as I find good instrumental music hard to find, Thanks!
That makes sense!"
By the way, it might be weird of me, but I like hearing you speak Swedish even if it's just to scold Svea :)
It looks gorgeous
I’ve learned very quickly that if I put a folded pattern & fabric on my table next to the pattern I’m actually using, my cat is usually happy to curl up there next to my sewing box rather than napping on my fabric (although she also does that, so it’s like a 50/50 chance). Give them lots of pats for us!
I really enjoyed watching this! You have such a lovely personality and pleasing aesthetic the cinematography is breathtaking and watching you work was a delight.
