i completely agree with you. i wonder sometimes whether or not people understand what "spam" really is. It's possible that maybe they just mark it as "spam" because they know it gets rid of the comment but do not understand what they are doing.
Thx for the comment, Brent, and yeah, u make really great points here. But I do want to make it clear that I personally don't have that big an issue with the fact that information has become a commodity. A company owning a magazine has every right to determine what kind of content they want to publish. A problem I really wanted to address here was what happens if what determines the content is not people but a computer algorithm which tracks your click history.
People are biased and have their ulterior motives and agendas. Sometimes it's hard to noticed, but most such biases can be observed and noticed. But with computer algorithms, it's hard to notice such things. An algorithm set to hide comments that receive more than 5 thumbs down ends up creating a stream of information that has been filtered to fit the needs of the majority popular opinion. On the surface it seems like a harmless programming, but it can have very negative consequences.
hey hey, good to see ya comment on here lol. :) But yeah, thanks for watching and commenting. Honestly, I don't think the issue is that people don't know what spam means, but just that they want to react to and just do something to comments they disagree with or find offensive. Downvoting wld b the normal thing to do and I wld agree it's the appropriate thing to do, only if RUclips didn't hide comments w/too many downvotes. But yea, some ppl I think just mark as spam cuz they don't like it.
The spam filter has become much, much worse since then. Comments are not only hidden behind a "click here to view" button, but now they don't show up at all. I made a video showing examples of it happening to me: HARD EVIDENCE of the RUclips Spam Filter Censoring Legitimate Comments

I liked it better when they just showed how many downvotes a comment had, rather than censoring it.
