I have successfully overcome an addiction to weed, alcohol and pornography. 12 step programs and replacing a bad addiction with a healthy one (cooking, working out, self care etc)!

Part of life is weeding out the things that are dragging you down or compromising your happiness. I liked this video and I hope you win this fight as gambling tends to be your kryptonite.
But don't feel alone! My battle was with cigarettes. I started at age 16 and by the time I was 31 I had quit and restarted smoking 5 or 6 times. I disliked how I was unable to save money and often felt winded from walking up the stairs. One day I decided that enough was enough. I quit soon thereafter. I've been 13 years without a butt and run regularly.

Even if you've got all the money in the world, gambling can take the last penny out of you. The hunger of the gambling industry will never die. The day you forfeit the thought of winning you're in the right direction to give up. I was an addict of 15 years but my last bet was a win. That was 6 years ago. I haven't gambled a single penny since.

You get in place where you feel exited and the high of almost winning of course no different than taking a drug. Once you experience it you think there’s no better feeling and crazy the feeling once again. Gambling is a silent addictive drug that will poison not only you but your love ones.

God bless bro

And does it actually help you in whatever you trying to achieve in life? That stops me from putting any funds into anything else.. God bless

I'm not a gambler and have never had a gambling problem, but casinos appear to have this beautiful facade, but behind it is misery, manipulation, and addiction. When I'm in a casino, I marvel at how many willingly sit and gamble on the slot machines. Today I learned a term called "rent seeking" and casinos by their very nature fit the definition.

Gambling in Hasidic orthodox community isn’t very accepted. My cousin in Lakewood, NJ owed tons of money to mob years ago, my aunt and uncle paid 300k to them, to keep my cousin alive but also so it wouldn’t be spoken about too. I have to say, GA, NA and AA meetings that were in the frum community would help a lot. These don’t exist at all for woman, even AA. I have so many friends it would help. This is all random ramblings, I’m just shocked to see another Jew talking about it.

Not good advice ,as a former gambling addict myself when you place a bet your brain releases a chemical called dopamine it is this that we crave ,you unfortunately develop a tolerance to the size of the bet so over time the bets get bigger to create the same dopamine release ,in my opinion the most effective way is to abstain completely surround yourself with friends who don’t gamble and replace the gambling with another activity that is less damaging but gives you a natural high ,mine was exercise in the gym

Don't really think that's the best way about addressing matters but I understand and feel for your situation . People in the twelve step program are some of the best people on earth . They've had to work on themselves to be a better person which people don't necessarily do throughout their lives if they aren't forced to. As a result you have some of the most loyal honest trusting people who are in recovery . However yes addiction is awful and can tear apart families if left untreated. On the flip side if dealt with successfully than it provides the chance to have family love, understanding, compassion etc more than a regular family otherwise would. Anyways hopefuly you have moved on and wish you all the best

Not quite sure what you mean by affirmative action ? Many people have a gambling addiction.. I was ruining my life gambling even when I was winning. If I missed my child's birthday party bec I was gambling than whether or not money was won or lost becomes irrelevant .. you are doing more damage than money can fix. Very glad for you though and all others that can gamble recreationally and not let it impact their life negatively .. whilst many (and in fact most) people can do that, there are others (such as myself) whereby winning or losing money is irrelevant. I cannot lead a constructive life whilst gambling and many others out there are the same whether or not you acknowledge that. All the best
