That's what I like about the FGC, we're known for thuggery but it doesn't matter if you're straight, gay, black, brown, white, etc. if you can play, then you earn respect, also, go Cali!
I feel the BBC went into this video with the wrong intentions but came out with something amazing thanks to Ricki Ortiz. What an amazing person, though. Ricki has put in a lot of work, just like most in the FGC, but has also shown that she deserves that respect. Ricki getting some spotlight makes me happy, BBC's possible intentions be damned. And if one of the dirtiest, most vial corners of the FGC shows nothing but praise for Ricki Ortiz then that should show the overwhelming respect the FGC has for her.
@@dryp_eletrix the fact you are literally everywhere in this comment section getting mad at people calling a woman by the correct terms is honestly really, really sad. do you have anything better to do than get mad at a harmless group of people for simply existing?
This is what Narcissa Wright could have been. I also like how she wanted to be appreciated and known for her skills, and not her identity define her as a professional gamer.
There are other transgenders in gaming comunity but what i find really cool about Ricki is that she even before the "change" she never changed. For exemple, never stops to compete or anything. On other side we have Narcissa(? Cosmo) who stops going to gdq events ever speedrun.
the transition process involves a pretty significant re-balancing of your body's hormones. This can have very different effects on different people. Not to mention the speedrunning community is already more toxic than the fgc in general; I really don't blame Narcissa for getting away from it.
FGC is one of the most NON Online/face to face communitys and it's online where all the haters are(twitch, forums, etc..) in reality these disrespectful people are cowards behind the screen, in reality they can not do shit
Ricky just seems like really good people. I first remember seeing Ricky on Cross Counter with Mike Ross and Gootecks. I'm happy that she's finding her true self, and making her way towards happiness.
Didn't know much about her even though I watched most of her matches online before but now after watching this she earns my respect and I admire her more
Last I heard the FGC was supposed to be a cesspit of misogyny... seems maybe they're actually super cool. It''s the online communities that are disgraceful... *looks around*
Online anonymity makes people more "secure" about there hatred. So it would make sense that a community that thrives on face to face interactions would be the most civil.
Thank you so much for putting yourself out there and being such a positive role model for not only the LGBTQ+ community but for women and more importantly transwomen of color! The internet has opened so many doors for video games and the FGC but with it comes a lot of negativity as well. I almost didn't join the FGC at my college due to the sexist, homophobic, and transphobic language I would not only see on Facebook but on sites like RUclips and Twitch as well. It is a small feat but I'm happy I joined because I have been #1 on my universities PR since we started two years ago and it is all thanks to LGBTQ+ players like you who remind me to fight against the negativity by continuing to be a part of the scene. Thank you for the hope, love, and positivity you inspire in all of us Ricki!
Ricki has been known in the FGC (Fighting Game Community) for years and what she says is true, tournaments bring a sense of achievement and the community is INSANELY supportive.
I cried watching this. She is so sweet and full of wonder but also aiming for her true meaning deep down. I am 37 years old but wish I grew up during her era. She, Justin Wong and the rest would have made me feel a deeper purpose in myself. I love them ❤

I'm close with a another trans woman who does esports so seeing a more positive look at what its like to be a woman (especially a trans woman) in esports is really interesting although I dont think I learned anything about like what makes her a good player or how she plays....

Been a west coast pot monster(goes to places, doesn't really place) for a while and Ricki has never bothered me more than when they were clearly off their game in terms of actually playing.
Here is what I'd say. I don't see Ricky as a boy, or a girl, or a transgender. I see this person as a gamer, one of the many faces of a great community. The gaming community, don't let anyone tell you who you are because gamers are the greatest people on earth. we're family, we fight and argue. we banter about other members and their game play but in the end we protect our fellow gamers. I think that was evident with the jimmy kimmel thing, one of the many times we as gamers have stood up for what we love. If you've gotten to the end of this then please take away one thing, you are a gamer, you are part of a family, and everyone in this family, even though they may argue and call you names, they love you.
Yea, I think I know what You mean. Gllty scalped Daigo Books & also assaulted someone after a loss in a match of SFV. Those are the 2 events that I know of Gllty. She seems like a Piece of Shit in real life to be honest.
And I don't know much about Ricki, but You're right, she seems Genuine and Real, and not a Fraud. Also her pick of Character is Chun-Li as Low tier as You get, and I Respect that.
I met Ricky at a MVC2 tourney at SJSU. I fought him and took him out of the tournament. I could tell he was not happy about it. It was my first tournament and had no idea who I had just gone against. I do recall him wearing a handbag, but had short hair. (2006-2007 ish) I also remember his friend, he used to hangout at the Univ arcade all the time... always only playing street fighter.
